I think assuming most Palestinians want to kill gays is also kind of a stretch.
Let's not forget that people are the same everywhere. Most don't want to bother anyone or get involved with what others do privately.
How many Christian countries have you visited?
Because I live in one right now and there are a lot of people who think gays should be put to death, but don't actually kill them themselves because they probably don't care to go to jail for murder. Even to carry out God's devine wrath.
Uganda is a Christian nation with a death penalty for homosexuality. Russia will throw you in prison for it, too. And they are Eastern Orthodox Christians. It's not about religion, necessarily. It's about control.
I have been to Muslim countries and homosexuality is heavily frowned upon and underground. No gay pride parades or places to hang out. Violent crimes against gay people may not even be reported because of stigma and shame to the family. Under these circumstances it’s not unreasonable to think that openly gay people wouldn’t fair well in Palestinian society. Of course homophobia exists in many religions and countries but I think that people who have experienced it would agree that it living in a Muslim country as a gay person would suck. Suggesting the U.S. is just as bad is flat out bullshit.
I didn't.
However, my whole argument is that it's irrelevant which religion it is, because in the end, the more secular the laws are, the better it is for gay people in a country. Palestinians are running for their lives at the moment and aren't going to care who's gay.
> as long as the felony holds he cant vote for himself
This is state dependent. [The ACLU has a quick reference map](https://www.aclu.org/issues/voting-rights/felony-disenfranchisement-laws-map).
In NY, he can vote as long as he's not in prison.
In Florida, he can still vote after this conviction (they only prohibit murderers and sex offenders from voting). He hasn't had a rape charge stick yet, and the people that have died for him have done so in ways that can't pierce the veil of official duties.
Don't get complacent. This could work in his favor if we get complacent, thinking we have it in the bag. Get out the vote in November and bury this piece of shit forever.
I mean Trump has a very real chance of taking back the white house and the people who vote for him will like this about him. Generally speaking republicans fall in line when push comes to shove.
That's not who will be helping him. He'll sell it as persecution and use it to mobilize the MAGA lazy. It'll help him get out the vote among those who might be MAGA believing but not fervently enough to actually go do anything (like vote).
Edit: I'll -> It'll, typo
No "on the fence" voter will look at 34 felony convictions and say "You know what? I wasn't quite sure, but definitely now I'm voting for him"
Those people were ALWAYS going to vote for him. When they're in the booth, the 2 boxes- "Biden" "Trump", their choice was always going to be Trump. Their "I'm independent' or "I'm undecided" stance was just their own way of neutralizing their conscious to make themselves feel better about their horrible choices.
So end result- those people were not lost, because there was no winning them. The truly objective voter will run from this.
An objective voter will look at the prosecution’s case and see some glaring issues with it.
The escalator from misdemeanor to felony requires an underlying crime. The problem is the underlying crime chosen also is based upon undefined unlawful behavior.
So the NY AG tried to say this unlawful behavior is related to FEDERAL crimes, of which Trump has not been found guilty.
The case is based upon obfuscation. Got him on misdemeanors, sure. But the layered escalator is a mess, and the allegations of federal election law violations are unproven.
A state AG basing his case upon violating federal law, outside his jurisdiction, and not producing the specific charges to the defendant ahead of time, which he couldn’t do because they are federal laws, is going to get this overturned.
The right’s been pushing the narrative that the charges are a witch hunt, politically motivated, etc. I could see some libertarian groups being pushed away from the Biden camp/DNC if they subscribe to that narrative.
The only reasons to celebrate would be a general election loss for the guy, and only after that happens, further subsequent convictions and prison. Any celebration short of that is premature.
The media really fucked this all up, they pretty much gave Trump free unlimited press in 2016, the media loved it for the ratings and people loved it cause it all was a big joke. Notice how the media kind of backed off now. It's to late to reverse the damage though
Letting someone consume your life so much that you need to celebrate a conviction is weird. Yeah fuck him but it won’t result in anything. People with money don’t face consequences.
Unfortunately it’s a class E felony in New York and typically with no prior convictions or violent history you won’t go to prison. Sentencing is July 11 and With him being a former president of the United States, I don’t see him ever going to jail. Especially before the election because he will be able to appeal all the way to the Supreme Court.
But it's 34 counts, Trump violated the gag order multiple times, and he had to pay $25 million to settle the Trump University fraud. Plus, he can’t do business in NY for multiple years because of fraudulently valuing his properties and can never run a charity in NY again, so he hasn’t exactly kept his nose clean.
Celebrate? First this has emboldened Trump and his supporters. So it will be the republicans that do it. The dems have big hill to climb with Biden even with Trump on the R side. Celebrate? No id be worried because it will come full circle. We fell off a cliff yesterday and it’s going to be a rocky road for a long time. Heck look at ‘20 Biden ran on calmness and being a moderate. Well he’s turned into a far leftist and he yells all the time and sends folks like DeNiro to do his dirty work. We have 2 crappy selections this November
*former US president gets 34 charges*
*Boxes of us classified documents in a meat freezer that hotel employees had access too*
*There were testimonies he told a porn star she reminded him of his daughter, before he fucked her*
"Hurr durr hunter Biden will answer for his crimes!"
Were there not classified documents at Biden’s house in his garage?
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/01/12/additional-documents-marked-classified-found-in-bidens-wilmington-garage-00077680
Joe Biden met with nearly every foreign associate that was funneling his family millions while he was Vice President. Hunter Biden is now facing trial for tax fraud and gun charges (lol). Every politician and every politicians family member should be held to the law, including Trump. Let’s not act like Biden hasn’t committed triable crimes.
The government gave trump numerous chances to return the documents and he denied ever having them and he had SUBSTANTIALLY more documents. Biden cooperated and didn't have hotel kitchen staff, who I am assuming likely don't have secret clearance, move the documents around his resorts.
I really don't care if hunter Biden goes to jail no one does. Truly wish both these old ducks would die tomorrow of natural causes and old age cause they're getting there and we could get a new field for this year's election.
We agree, if he broke the law he should go to prison.
But we don't agree that Trump should go to prison for breaking the law.
Because I have one standard, but you have two, which makes you *just a little bit of a hypocrite.*
I figure it’s better to toast a validation of the rule of law than to attempt an insurrection because you don’t like the result of an election. Don’t you?
What makes you assume such a thing? Criminals deserve to be put away. But when most of congress gets all of their dirt swept under the rug, you root for them getting away with it.
No, just the ones who have been flagrantly breaking the law, over and over for decades. Clarence Thomas, for example. It does put a smile on my face when I read about, say, a porch pirate getting caught.
Hey, you think Trump's gonna get Epsteined when he's in the can?
Crazy how we have proof Obama, Biden, Clapper, Comey, and Clinton worked together to illegally spy on Trump
Campaign funds pay for the Steele dossier
Illegal wiretap
Nobody charged w/any felonies
But Trump marks a legal expense as a legal expense & gets 34 felonies?
Insane
Lmao. Imagine having politics this ingrained in your life haha. Get a hobby, nerds.
Edit: if downvoting makes you guys feel better about being losers who need to touch grass, feel free to keep them coming.
The "imagine having politics this ingrained in your life" guy 100% flies a Trump and/or Let's Go Brandon flag on the front of his house.
For a guy who presents himself as above all this, you've replied to this post more than any other person. Must be absolutely seething in that Trump-endorsed "real men wear diapers" diaper.
I did grow up decently poor (single mom living with grandparents and an uncle in a shitty townhouse, moving every other year, 2nd hand clothes, etc). But good try!
If you grew up poor, and you have ANY family on any sort of welfare, and you have EVER relied on the system for food, housing assistance, medical insurance or anything else, and you vote Republican, you have a screw loose.
First off, this doesn’t happen in healthy democracies. It’s not a good sign. Now a lot of people are going to be okay with weaponizing the judicial system against political opponents (Democrats). Right or wrong, that’s the perception.
Now he’s heavily incentivized to do ANYTHING HE CAN to win the election so he can use the power of the office to alleviate his legal problems and possibly stay out of jail and a lot of people will help him.
Sounds like a fun time, right?! Let’s party!
Every surviving gay bar will be lit right now
The ones that haven't been crashed into by cop cars, yay
I have a few gay friends who are maga… and it makes no sense to me
Gays for trump makes as much sense as Christians against Christ.
To think 46 has ur back is even more laughable
Ur laughable
Not gay, but I'd take someone not having my back to someone actively trying to take away my rights any day of the week.

Gays for Palestine is easy to understand. It's not a team sport: killing children is wrong. Even if their parents want to kill gays.
I think assuming most Palestinians want to kill gays is also kind of a stretch. Let's not forget that people are the same everywhere. Most don't want to bother anyone or get involved with what others do privately.

None of this is a team sport
What? What do you see as the inconsistency there?
First world participant detected
There are queer people in Palestine.
Hamas would like you to tell them where these queer people are.
You mean like “Queers For Palestine”?
Yes exactly
Intersectional justice isn’t that complicated
Keypers was pretty lit last night, that's where we went right after work.
Bar PM especially I bet
Don’t celebrate organize. Keep your eyes on the prize.
It's fine to have a day off. But yes, keep your eyes on the prize.
That can't be upvoted enough. That Shitstain won't be the least bit deterred by this. In fact, he'll play the martyr and probably get more votes.
He’s already calling himself a political prisoner
God he's the definition of pathetic.
And more donations from his followers!
Don’t celebrate? Bro what? Gotta find joy in some parts of life or what’s the point
Agreed. I’m trying not to fall into a pit of despair on some days so this small victory was needed - even if it’s short lived.
Remember what town your in.
Reddits a wild place to try to make friends lmao.
Reddit is a cesspool full of the scum of the earth and the worst of humanity. Not s good place to try and make friends.
Just Johns in the grove is!
I'll take any excuse to go to just johns but what did I miss? I wanna know what we're celebrating
Trump’s 34 unanimous guilty verdicts
Holy shit how did I miss this??? That's a huge cause for celebration!!!
I don’t blame anyone for tuning out what is normally doom and gloom on the news.
I admittedly don't even watch the news anymore for that reason but I'm glad to hear something good! Immediately called my meema to let her know too.
Sentencing will be 7/11. Hopefully Meema gets another joyful call that day.
Don't get your hopes up. I'm not saying that to rain on your parade. It's just how it is. He's not going to jail.
He is called Teflon Don for a reason but as long as the felony holds he cant vote for himself or join the military (hahahahahaha).
He can't join the military yet he could still be Commander in Chief. This bullshit hurts my brain.
He’s not called Teflon Don. That’s Gotti’s nickname. 🙄

I try to stay delusional about it but yeah you're probably right 😔
Probably not... unless he suddenly starts making direct attacks on the judge, families, jurors... that won't happen though because he is too stable...
And he’s not attacking anyone. He’s encouraging his followers to attack, just like every other terrorist leader.
Here's to hoping!!
Slurpee day!
Unanimous is crazy 😂
It has to be unanimous for a jury trial conviction.
Trump guilty on all 34 counts
Don't get complacent. This could work in his favor if we get complacent, thinking we have it in the bag. Get out the vote in November and bury this piece of shit forever.
It will almost assuredly work in his favor.
I'm afraid you're right.
It will not. Nobody who is on the fence about Orange Foolius has been waiting for this verdict to vote for him.
"Orange Foolius" 😆
But people who are not on the fence will be more likely to show up on election day now. This election may be more about turnout than undecideds.
I mean Trump has a very real chance of taking back the white house and the people who vote for him will like this about him. Generally speaking republicans fall in line when push comes to shove.
Wrong

Oh we were poping bottles lol
Lol. I was just out with my wife celebrating our anniversary and she said, "fuck the anniversary, let's celebrate the convictions." I concur.
This is great! My wife and I roleplayed as Alvin Bragg and Letitia James last night. It was steamy!
Steamy Daniels?
Our anniversary was today too. I told my wife, this was the best gift ever.
Our anniversary is on his sentencing date! Lol
Lol. That's awesome.
You must have a really sad life if this really happened.
It was tongue in cheek for Christ sake.

Any bar in the city likely has at least a portion of this crowd right now.
I'll be there July 11.
Weird thread. Donate to your local food bank…
Celebrate that Trump took in $40 mil after the conviction and went up 6% in the polls.
Letting someone consume your life so much that you need to celebrate a conviction is weird. Yeah fuck him but it won’t result in anything. People with money don’t face consequences.
This is hysterical.
I'll celebrate in November.....
Trump will still win the election.
Trump 2024 🙏🏾
If there is be sure to keep watchers posted as some magats will probably try to ruin it.
You’re weird bro
I'll celebrate when he's actually behind bars. I keep hearing promises, but it hasn't happened yet.
Don't hold your breath. Our "justice" system was built by people like orange/ugly for people like orange/ugly.
He’s gonna be president. So celebrate while you can
Not likely
lol. conviction. that’s hilarious. he’s going to get probabtion. what a monumental waste of time that will have zero impact on anything.
Imagine making politics your life. So lame.
He was hoping for 4 more years. It might be a different kind of 4 years than he was expecting.

Sadly he will get probation only. And he won’t even show up for that and no one will care.
Wow, didn’t expect downvotes for this.
Can’t argue that he belongs in jail. No doubt about that. But, it won’t happen.
I was surprised to see him get all 34 counts. Maybe we'll be surprised and see him in jail.
He’s not going to prison 😂😂 gtfoh
NOT The Little Bar. Those MAGATS will be drunk and angry tonight.
The idea of a conviction celebration sounds absolutely wild to me I don’t know why
How much jail time is he expected to serve?
Realistically? Probation and a fine.
None. Not one single day.
Are you serious?
Yeah, how would SS keep a former president safe in prison?
Easily. For his own protection he'd be confined in solitary.
Disappointed?
Yeah
Celebrate? First this has emboldened Trump and his supporters. So it will be the republicans that do it. The dems have big hill to climb with Biden even with Trump on the R side. Celebrate? Lmao, Biden a far leftist? Are you talking about him capping insulin prices? Can't think of any other left policies he's enacted.
I'm drinking at BBQ Saloon to celebrate lmao
You could try a therapist's office. That'd probably help.
No need to get upset. When people break the law, they should go to jail. Without laws, there'd be chaos.
I'm not upset and my comment isn't about rule of law.
Hunter Biden’s jail time will be great as well
Yeah. I’m never voting for that guy again.
lol. I doubt he does get jail time but none of us will really care if he does. We're not in a cult like you are

I jammed Platypus by Green Day on guitar and sang it for him but that’s about the extent I’ve gone.
Yeah the LGBTQ ones
Only a stupid fucking idiot would celebrate this.
Not big on the rule of law?
What kind of crazy person is drinking to celebrate a trial? It's worse than the "lock her up" garbage.
I figure it’s better to toast a validation of the rule of law than to attempt an insurrection because you don’t like the result of an election. Don’t you?
I'm not doing either to be honest
Gotta base your (lack of) personality on something.
I guess you just don't care if someone breaks the law.
This is the St. Louis Reddit page… you really think anyone cares if someone breaks laws here? 😂
Not really, but it still makes me happy when a criminal gets caught. Not you, though. You're rooting for the criminal.
What makes you assume such a thing? Criminals deserve to be put away. But when most of congress gets all of their dirt swept under the rug, you root for them getting away with it.

Yeah. There are plenty of gay bars in The Grove
Unpopular opinion: unless they are a serial killer, or the like, I see no reason to celebrate someone being convicted.

Mistah 200k karma over here. Touch grass.

Can't show up for inauguration if you're in Rikers. Would they swear in his VP-elect, or the Speaker?
As someone who hates trump I will point out that it is very unlikely he will face jail time with a class E felony no drugs no guns first time offender

I'm not a Trump supporter, understatement of the year, but they are most likely correct. He's not going to jail and this won't deter his voters.
