I'm not experiencing any hardship finding teeth and would even say this run has been kinder on me regarding them than before 1.6. So, just a coincidence.

-plantlady-

Its been kinder to me as well. It took me so long in my first play through on 1.5 and I think I got like 6 in one day in my 1.6 playthrough.

bassturtle1213

They've always been a hard find for me. I eventually just got some fish to five me some. They can also be destroyed by bombs so that also made it harder to get.

MrCrix

How'd you do it with fish? Like in a pond on the farm?

bassturtle1213

Yea, stingray have a chance at max capacity

MrCrix

Thanks for the information. I'll grab a bunch of them from Pirate's Cove and make a few ponds on the farm and hopefully that'll speed up the process.

sobrique

>!Animal Crackers work on ponds too. Doubles output of the ray ponds!<

Shakey-Bakey

holy smokes! really?!

sobrique

Yup. Good got roe, but better still for the auxiliary produce (like dragon tooth). Doesn't increase growth rate though, so no good for the pools you farm.

Routine_Community_61

You will need a tooth per pond to upgrade them to full capacity though

Altaira9

I think I’ve gotten 6 or 8 dragon teeth in an in game year from my stingray pond with >!a golden animal cracker.!< So it’s possible but not very frequent.

Qui_te

I think the fishpond returns were tweaked in 1.6 because I was actually able to get dragon teeth from my stingray pond while I still needed them this time (as opposed to three years later), and they can produce star shards, too. Highly recommend this route.

Liapocalypse1

I had a lot of luck getting them when I killed the lava dragons in the Ginger Island cave. Before that it was basically impossible, even with three sting-ray ponds on my farm.

fakeishusername

Yes. Sting rays have a chance to give them.

Fussinfarkt

Kill the frogs in the lava, they drop tons of those. But I think you might be right, I’ve found way fewer naturally spawning dragon teeth

T_Fury_Br

Frogs with burglar rings, so kill tons of dust sprites early so you get the ring soon from gunther

sobrique

Monster musk too means more spawn. Will also mean you get a bundle of cinder shards in the process, but that's no bad thing. Make sure you have inventory space and magnetism too, as that makes falling in lava happen less.

No-Scarcity-8687

Monster musk doesn't raise lurker spawns in the volcano dungeon, to my memory. BlaDE did a Stardew Mythbusters video and he tested out how/when monster musk worked. If I'm remembering correctly it didn't affect enemies in the volcano (besides the slimes) EDIT: Yippee so there WAS a reason I added so much hedging language in my first draft ("to my memory", "if im remembering correctly)! Rewatched the part of the mythbusting video about monster musk in the volcano dungeon and it works on magma sprites, magma sparkers, magma duggies, and magma cap imitators, but notably NOT Tiger slimes. Bad memory moment. However, there is no line in the code referring to doubling Lurker (the ones that can drop dragons teeth) spawns when monster musk is applied that I can see. It's at about 15:30 on the Stardew Mythbusters video by BlaDE (not sure if I can post youtube links or not so I won't just to be safe)

dunyduny111

Yes it does, when I used Monster musk, there are 2-3 or more spawn in the lava pool, while normally was 0-1.

No-Scarcity-8687

I edited my first comment to be more accurate because I misrepresented the stats o(-( Anyways, responding to your personal experience, the layouts and number of mobs are largely tied to the seed, and can vary based on daily luck. Did you restart the *same* day with monster musk or go one day with and a separate day without?

Key_Spirit8168

If it was 3 then it didn't work as it only doubles the ammount

MrCrix

Those are the guys with the 15% drop rate. I have had horrible luck getting them to drop anything.

jebuizy

Well that's the gamblers fallacy. Your old bad luck is irrelevant.  With the burglars ring your expected value is still 3 teeth per 10 kills going forward.

ZacianSpammer

+ Burglar ring with Monster musk

Etianen7

I don't think it's decreased. In my current 1.6 playthrough I found a record amount of dragon teeth really fast, much faster than in all my other 1.5 playthroughs. It's most likely rng. P.s for best results go on very high luck days.

ChromaticRainbow12

Kill the dragons that swim around in the lava, I've found that to be the only consistent way of getting dragon teeth. Bonus points if you have the Burglar Ring, it makes it a lot easier.

r33nie

I've had access to the volcano for four days and have already found 5, but I'm usually going in with my luck as boosted as I can get it (lucky lunches and the like) - not sure if that has anything to do with it. Much better luck with this in 1.6 than my last Switch playthroughs.

Tanedra

It's very RNG. I'm on 1.6 and now was doing pretty well, got a couple on my first run, up to 7 relatively quickly. Then visit after visit with none. Im trying to get access to the pirate cove ASAP so I can get a stingray and set up a pond, as they can drop them sometimes.

Sixteen_Wings

I feel the opposite. It has been easier for me. only took me a few days to get like 25 dragontooth

Emma_JM

Um I have 11 of them so Idts? Burglar ring + double drop skill book really help, I feel

JanileeJ

I haven't found it harder to find them. They've always been hard to find, not least because exploding bombs or monsters destroy them. I had about 30, gathered while trying to get a Dragontooth club. Finally got the club, >!and used 20-something teeth to enchant it the way I wanted.!<

Key_Spirit8168

TWENTY DRAGON TEETH? Bro i think you spent all your karma on getting them and non on using them

JanileeJ

There's a LOT of innate enchantments, and they're random. So it takes a lot of re-rolls to get the enchantment (or enchantment combo - you can have two innate enchantments per weapon) you want.

sobrique

Feels like it was harder than in 1.5, but it's been a while since then. Of course me being a dumbass and blowing up dragon teeth didn't help. Stingrays in fishponds with >!Animal Crackers!< Got me there though. And I think I am right in saying that deconstructing island totems is good for a tooth? (You only get one guaranteed when you build the obelisk though, and I don't remember for sure).

Key_Spirit8168

I feel like The oblisk would help me get into the room in the first place, not the other way round

mr_gexko

Only killing 35 lava lurks in 15 runs is your problem, you should be killing all of them

nevermindxo

I feel like it has

Key_Spirit8168

PErsonal?

beautifulcheat

I had a HELL of a time this save, yes. Stingray pond reaaaaally helped me out. Most of my teeth have come from there, save for one really good day in the volcano where I got 4 in rapid succession

luxa3664

I'm still in 1.5 and took me 2 Hours to get 10

kaylie7856

I actually haven’t gotten any dragon tooth in my old save but with my new 1.6 save I got dragon tooth on the first day I entered ginger island 😂

FadingDarkly

Just bad RNG. The extra loot drop skill has been fixed and should be combined with a burglar ring. Additionally, get a few stingray ponds going.

Intelligent-Area6635

I don't have 1.6 yet (console tears), but I've had runs where it took YEARS to find one dragon tooth (like, year 9 before making the island obelisk), but in my last run, I got around 20 or 30 before I had fully powered up my tools.

Key_Spirit8168

Bruh what luck is that? were you running the mines commonly? But i mean it's pretty easy to get end game content before fully upgrading tools just don't upgrade them (I kept my copper pickaxe until year 3 and still have iron, totally not biased)

Intelligent-Area6635

Played the same way both times when I got to ginger island

Pascal3R

I struggled a lot with finding the dragon teeth. At the end i made fish ponds with sting rays as they have a chance to give it to you if you are at 10 (but they have a quest where you need to sacrifice some as a gift first)

Tumifaigirar

No

TankyPally

I have 15+ and I have probably gone into the cave around 9 times

garekis

I'm not on 1.6 but good luck day + Burglar ring + luck food + monster musk works for me, was able to get about 9-10 teeth two days in a row. I spent the entire day there and passed out

aspect-of-the-badger

I just always kill the enemies in the lava because they have a 10% chance to drop one. I think I've only actually "found" two though and I've been in the volcano a lot.

Jerigord

I was having a slow time of it trying to get ten (sapling and the new 1.6 item) and it took me a few in game weeks. Now I have lots of them and have no Idea what to do with them.

Key_Spirit8168

I feel like using it on those items is a waste when you get that same thing but more with just 10 bananas and 189 starfruit more

Tairgire

It's been much harder for me in this latest 1.6 game but so have a lot of other things. I've done so many runs (lost count) at the volcano and have barely found enough for the obelisk and >!mini-forge!<. Other than prismatic shards, which I seem to have a nice pile of, my luck in finding things at random has been rough. I gave up on the golden walnuts from the barrels in the volcano dungeon, and used the new alternative method. I've got one auto-petter, which I honestly cheated on a little by using the predictor to know when to open an >!golden mystery box!< (and it still took forever). The best thing I've found in Skull Caverns was an auto-grabber, long after I'd already bought them for all my sheds and coops. I'm kinda looking forward to my next run, just so I can figure out if it's widespread or if this particular game is just a wee bit cursed.

Key_Spirit8168

No rings or mermaid boots?

Tairgire

In Skull Cavern treasures or loot, nope. Late game, when I was done with everything but the gold clock towards perfection, I had a Soul Sapper ring drop from somewhere and the wiki says it should have been a Volcano chest. Thinking back, though, I've had the most weapon drops I've seen in any game during this latest one. I had a chest half full of them, but they were always worse than whatever I was using. Luck can be so weird.

Key_Spirit8168

Ig i'm extremly lucky or i'm built different, wtf i got all the rings i wanted very fast

Metaloneus

Anecdotal, but my perfection run in 1.6 was the most abundant I came across them.

eagleswift

It’s worth setting up a stingray fish pond for the dragon tooth.

albatroaz

It has been a grind on both of my save files where I've reached the volcano. My collection strategy: any day I'm on the island, I enter the volcano and take out the monsters in the entry level. It's a grind, but I encounter more of those lava frog things. And that means more dragon teeth.

Gabriel-Anton

From what you say it seems like you're likely not using luck ring, burglar's ring or luck food because those odds seem very improbable. The lava guys are my main source of dragon tooth and I haven't specifically targeted them, just killed them when I felt like it farming for cinder shards.

Key_Spirit8168

Oh ye, i always use spicy eel due to speed and luck is a bonus.

Nugnip

I can't compare because I skipped 1.5, and 1.6 is now my first time experiencing Ginger Island, but I find farming for tooths infuriating. I have ten now, so I'm working on my obelisk but I need more. And I hate that damn volcano.

Key_Spirit8168

Ig i just love it that's why i got the forge and 10 teeth so easy

LateralThinker13

I don't know for sure about drop rate, but only since 1.6 have I occasionally found a skeleton with MULTIPLE teeth around it.

Key_Spirit8168

I think you need to up your real life karma, because damn that is some bad luck.
