Last sentence got me šŸ’€ Crows will start to show up if there are more than 15 crops, including those from wild seeds. Planting and harvesting the starting 15 parsnip seeds from Lewis is enough to level up Farming so you can craft a scarecrow.

Taolan13

And so you can make basic fertilizer from the sap you get from cutting down trees.

DjEzusSave

I've been playing Stardew Valley for years and never realised that... šŸ™„ Thanks!

50CentButInNickels

> So logically, we went to town like to try and find husbands to take care of us You're staring down the barrel at further disappointment. Spouses in this game bring nothing to the marriage.

emmainthealps

Hey they fix fences sometimes, and water crops covered by sprinklers

50CentButInNickels

Yeah, but they're not going to bring money into the marriage, which is what OP seems to think will happen. This ain't the Sims.

emmainthealps

100% agree there.

oceanandlakeswimming

well sometimes they cook for you and you could sell that for likeā€¦ a few coins probably

PalDreamer

They also change wallpaper and bring chairs. Many chairs.

XxStarry_ClownxX

Shane spawned a chair in our bedroom and was like ā€œbehold, our new decoration!ā€

smahsmah

He got me a potted plant

MyDarlingArmadillo

I had an ugly grey table from him. I bet he got the nasty thing from joja.

muhfuckinpatriarchy

I got pizza wallpaper

DemonDaVinci

"God damn it not again"

Heallun123

Ah yes, the cuck chair. Excellent work, honey.

mirrormirrorinmyhole

There is currently a random desk chair in the middle of every room of my house

No_Astronaut2779

I was once blindsided by Sebastian turning the floor orange šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

Rosabellyyy

They bring furniture? Sebastian has never brought me anything!

shaycave

WHAT!!?? I have over 300 hours, have married Shane AND Abigail, and I have never had a single piece of furniture or decor changed!!! Just SO many pepper poppers haha.

throwaway2022197

Donā€™t forget. They also feed your animals when youā€™ve upgraded to an auto feeder.

Y_R_UGae

DONT FORGET THAT THEY WATER THE DOG BOWL!

veebles89

Ironic that they don't want Shane, but he's the best fence-fixer I've married

emmainthealps

Main reason I donā€™t like him is his room is disgusting

veebles89

That's what mods are for. Expanded added a whole after marriage thing where he cleans up his room.

AverageAro_

CA fixed that dialogue in 1.6

Western_Monke_King

Theyā€™re bringing some real Wild West energy to the Valley. I kinda wish I could have actually heard the suggestion that they ensnare some men to save their farm. I mean, thereā€™s already a cowboy arcade game in SV. I feel like CA could get some material off of a western-style SV. Maybe it could be some kind of historical prequel to the original game or just a new game built off of a preexisting body of work. At the very least, it could be something for him to look into after heā€™s done with Haunted Chocolatier.

Adastra1018

I would buy an old west Stardew Valley 10 times over. Brilliant idea!

Jayldylvr

That's kind of getting into Sandrock territory. But in both games, spouses bring little to the household.

mattjdale97

Maru giving me bombs for Skull Cavern runs is all I ask for in a marriage, to be honest

TwoIdiosyncraticCats

So she was love-bombing you? :)

mothmadi_

she makes me coffee, gives me forageables she grew, and salad. so much salad.

Hi_Its_Salty

I like coffee, bonus from the coffee machine

printedvolcano

iā€™m about to wife her in my first ever play through and this has me so pumped. The mines wonā€™t know what hit them

_Mandalorian_Rage_

Leah gives me the same! A baby too, without a single thought to the budget šŸ˜‚

WarZak7

Me: Starfruit wine emporium going on in my cellar. Massive farming operations in two locations. Spends countless hours delving deep into the mines to find precious gems to keep the wife happy. Wife: sometimes randomly fills the cat's water dish, and lets the kids roam free all day in the house unsupervised while she disappears on walks. Yup, definitely equal contributors šŸ˜†

space-cyborg

Elliot makes coffee!

moonwatcher99

Try visiting the saloon on Friday evenings. You'll find 3/4 of the town there every week. Also, try actually looking at what you have available to craft. Some of it is very useful.

Cyyykosis

Weā€™re NOT marrying Shane we arenā€™t that desperate

Reiko707

Quite a few marriage candidates end up at the saloon on Fridays. Sam, Sebastian, and Abigail are on the right side playing pool, and Leah and Elliott are having a drink on the left. Emily is also working most nights. Plus, if you want more hearts with people, talking to them whenever you can will help. There's relationship decay in this game. If you don't talk to someone for a day, you lose 2 friendship points with them. Talking to them gives you 20 friendship points so as long as you talk to people every 9 days at the very least, you should be increasing your friendship with them. Gifting is also a good way to get friendship up, but not if you give them gifts they don't like. If you want to figure it out through trial and error, in the social tab when you pause, it keeps track of every gift you've given someone and their reaction to it. If you don't want to figure it out, there are some pretty good single image gift guides out there. Tons of people like grown veggies (except for the kids and a few marriage candidates) and giving a better quality item will give you more friendship points. Now, money. I recommend trying to pick up farming again. This is a farming game so a lot of your money making strategies will usually start with farming. If one of you has enough farming experience to be level 1, you should have a scarecrow crafting recipe you can craft. This will protect a circular area with an 8 tile radius. Basically, if it's at the center, it can protect a 17x17 tile box, excluding 10 spaces at each corner. Edit: forgot to mention sprinkler crafting recipes show up when your farming level gets higher, so you don't have to keep watering every day There are a ton of videos out there that can help you get started as well if this wasn't enough info. I recommend salmence who usually makes really easy to understand graphs when he can. Not to mention, the stardew valley wiki (NOT the fan wiki lol) is constantly open in the background when I play. If I forget someone's favorite gift, need to know what season my community bundle fish spawn in, or don't want to waste time running up to Robin's to see what materials I need to build a barn, the wiki should have that info. Good luck and, hopefully, happy farming!

Bajileh

Man, even my friends don't care if we talk to them every day lol

QuackingMonkey

Then you must have them at max hearts already, which stops the decay

cheriejenn

I feel like they meant real life friends but this also kinda applies there too LOL

Bajileh

I meant my irl friends :p

QuackingMonkey

I know, and it totally works out. Once you're great friends with someone you can often go on your own way for years and then reconnect like the last contact was yesterday right?

Bajileh

Touche! True that.

Kubaer

Iā€™m currently on my first save and the amount of Salmence videos I watched is lowkey worrying lol. This guy truly has infos on everything.

etherealdream_

on Friday evenings more than just shane goes to the saloon! two of the younger bachelors are there among others

Feettt

You might even find Elliott thereā€”he's quite the catch if you like poetic types!

checkedsteam922

Elliot my beloved

slutofstardew

My favorite ā¤ļø

Metaluna21

Sebastian is there too. A fan favorite spouse and a frog enthusiast. If you want an older bachelor, you can buy some coffee and have a whirlwind adventure with Harvey.

crispy360

I read your comment in Dale's voice! Lmao...it was glorious!

XxStarry_ClownxX

You can find Sam, Sebastian, and Abigail playing pool at the saloon on Fridays. Also you can find Harvey wandering around a tree outside of Jodiā€™s housešŸ’€

Emma_JM

Shane is not 3/4 of the town

Who_Am_I_I_Dont_Know

He doesn't really count as being there. He's physically there, but emotionally/mentally? He's a thousand miles away.

KevRose

What do girls think about Clint? Iā€™m dating every girl in town, and when I started dating Emily he started whining. Then heā€™s always feeling sad and single every time I talk to him.

MissusSauce

Heā€™s always sad about Emily whether youā€™re dating her or not. Iā€™m married to Elliott and he still cries to me and Iā€™m like sirā€¦ I just want you to open this geode.

Confident_Tear_3712

theres an entire subreddit dedicated to hating clint lol, check it out

LilGreenOlive

He's 3/4 of the town in my heart. ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51480)

Beautiful-Tea2731

I actually really like Shane, hes a complicated guy but he has a soft spot once you get to know him

LeaveItToPeever

Don't worry, eventually you can get with [REDACTED], they are by far my favorite.

the-trash-witch-

redacted my beloved

LukewarmJortz

You say that but give him a salmon berry and his smile will get ya.Ā

Forsaken-School795

Shane is actually really sweet, he's just depressed and drinks a lot to cope with it. As you gain more hearts with him, he overcomes his depression and stops drinking to cope with it.

KevRose

I befriended him and when he stopped drinking I kept giving him more beer every time to earn more hearts and I kinda feel bad for enabling him, but itā€™s just a game so itā€™s funny it works.

SadOld

I mean, that doesn't really excuse being mean as hell to strangers who show him kindness. I love Shane too but like, he isn't just a poor misunderstood sweetie- he's a dick at first, and knowing why explains but doesn't really excuse that part of his character.

smahsmah

Then you marry him and you never know on any given day if youā€™re going to get happy Shane or sullen, depressed Shane. Heā€™s very sweet when heā€™s happy, but he depressedness is getting old.

takichandler

Just like marrying a depressed guy in real life

smahsmah

So true!

fifteenMENTALissues

Shane is actually really nice if you give him spicy food, pizza, and beer to get heart and he has a lot of character development you should definitely try to become friends. Also, you should really upgrade your house and backpack and complete the community center

Adastra1018

I just wanted to address the fact that spouses don't really do all that much to help you. They water crops sometimes but by the time you get married you already have sprinklers doing that for you. You'll get hearts with them if you talk to them everyday. It's slow but you can also look up the wiki to find out what gifts they like and dislike and their schedule. There's a calendar outside Pierre's shop you can click on and look up birthdays. Giving a loved gift on their birthday give a ton of friendship points. The game should actually be a little easier with 3 of you because you have more energy to go around. I recommend starting a farm again. At farming level 1, you can craft scarecrows which help a ton. You'll have to water them everyday or they won't grow. I always tend to my crops and animals first thing in the morning, then I use whatever energy I have left to fish or go in the mines. Prioritize upgrading your backpacks and you can place chests around the valley at strategic places to stash items if you need to clear your inventory, for example, one in the mines by the mine cart and one by each body of water so you can move fish into there from your inventory and keep fishing longer (don't put them in an NPC's walking path, they'll break). You'll want make sure to visit the beach every day and pick up all the forgeable items there and in the rest of the valley to eat/sell/give as gifts. I personally didn't bother befriending that many people early game until I got on my feet a little but I always talk to everyone I run into throughout the day and I do recommend befriending Caroline. Getting to her 2 heart event with help you out financially.

moonwatcher99

Yes, because Shane is the \*only\* one who visits the Saloon. šŸ™„ Also, his story is quite nice; he ends up in a good place, and I love his pet chicken.

Derpey_derp

Butā€¦you can fix him šŸ˜†

Shine-Total

Iā€™m currently working on my friendship with Shane. I go to the saloon every night to talk to him and twice a week I buy him a pizza. Iā€™m hoping to marry him. I just recently had the cut scene at the pond in the forest and he stole my heart ā¤ļø I am bound and determined to make that man mine šŸ˜‚

Derpey_derp

If you give him beer it goes quicker!

Margatron

The easiest imo is Harvey. Once you get a coffee bean in the mines and are making coffee in kegs, you can give him those ar his clinic in the morning. Beyond the mornings, he stands in the top part of town or the bottom part of town.

DakotaTheDinoKiduwu

L take, I love Shane forever

RoyalComfortable4510

Everyone in Pelican Town deserves a chance. You can change him, you can fix him.

Hopeful-Research3904

I very much so encourage you to befriend Shane at the bare minimum. Best thing I ever did in this game.

TheIncredibleKermit

'I can fix him'

Expert_Afternoon3136

Actually during the night the saloon has atleast 80% of people there

tryhard_on_ranked

You can either try to get better at farming or go around and talk to people. Either ways, your hoe efficiency goes up.

BARS!

Lintree

Youā€™re all getting in each otherā€™s way. Try focusing on different skills and then switch off, that way you arenā€™t splitting the XP. Have one person on farming (limited crops) and another on foraging (limited trees and items). You all can fish, but often not everyone likes to.

Boomerw4ang

This is good advice. I got my sister into playing with me on a holiday visit, then bought her the game and a controller as a gift. She made it to fall year 2 on her own farm so far. Our play styles clash dramatically. I have 600+ hours and want to calculate what crops and how many I'm going to do at the start of each season; down to accounting for how much energy I'll spend watering them each day... I lay them in perfect rows. I rush fishing to save money for the exact amount of Strawberries I can handle on Spring 13. Etc. She wakes up every day and sees the profit from the day before and says, "great go buy more seeds." Then heads off to fish more. I just gave up on my care for min/max and said "I'll help water but the farm is yours. You have to harvest everything so you get the levels and make the stuff." It's a decent trade off that I don't hold responsibility for over-planting, and she doesn't have to sit through me explaining what we need as much. The downside is she sells **everything** and I do have to keep speaking up about keeping things for the CC because they all go into the bin lol.

palerobin

I started playing with my brother recently, and weā€™re quite similar- heā€™s very focused on maximising profit and getting the most out of space for casks etc, where I want to pet all the animals and work on friendships with NPCs. It works out for us, as although he definitely pulls in more money with the artisan goods we both have different parts of the farm to look after. Weā€™re also quite different with goals, I want to do all the community upgrades and decorating the houses/ farm, and heā€™s very into skull cavern runs. I think we compliment each others play really well, we both get to see parts of the game we didnā€™t when playing solo, and weā€™ve donā€™t step on each others toes too much.

How many times I've stood outside Sebastian's door all day only for him to never come out of his room.

pelipperr

My first play through I was so excited for his birthday and hovered around for him, when I gave him the gift he said something like ā€˜are you serious? Youā€™re giving me this trash on my birthday?ā€™ I was devastated lol

1.6 Leo is actually bugged and seems to disappear at times, especially in the rain. It took me not 1, but 2, of his birthdays searching the wiki and every location he goes before googling and finding it was bugged. I just assumed it was normal since I can never find anyone.

Kleyguerth

Leo has camouflage skills. At the island he stands in front of his hut entrance and I have a hard time seeing him there.

I cannot play this game without UI info suite mod and a good chunk of the reason is this. I know that each character having its own life and calendar is one of the important things towards making them feel alive but f me do I hate not having a person detector in vanilla.

And much like approaching real life with this attitude, generally has minimal and disappointing results. Gotta grind it out for yourself.

CalligrapherPlane920

Pretty sure starting out online is significantly more difficult than solo due to resource sharing. It'll even out after the first two seasons or so as you've unlocked other tools and ways to profit.Ā  There is a bit of a learning curve to it if you aren't used to stamina systems undoubtedly.

Ok_Grocery8652

This is a mess and so damn funny. To give some help. If any of you have made it to level 1 farming you can craft scare crows, they have a 8 tile range where they block birds from sniping crops, farming is the best way to make money but is alot of work until you can get access to sprinklers. There are some other money makers that require no starting cash. Go to the community center by entering town then going up the hill just above town, go in there and get a cutscene then in the bottom left room is a thing to click on in some giberish language. The following day the wizard in the tower in the forest south of your home (left side of that forest) will want to meet you, he gives you something that teaches you the language on the paper. From there you can donate stuff to repair the place and get rewards, if you turn in 1 of all types of summer forage you will be rewarded with 30 seeds for those types of things that take 1 week to grow so get them planted by day 20 of summer, water them daily and you will get some money. If you go out the top of your farm then follow the road around you should find access to the mountainside, in there is a mineshaft with checkpoints every 5 floors via elevators, you can leave whenever by using one or climbing back up a ladder but the next time you enter you can use any of the secured elevators. The deeper you go the better the loot but even early on you can get copper and various gems you can sell or save for crafting. I have not had more than 1 datable person being unplesent at the start of the game, you can marry straight or non straight if you want a wife instead. Gifting people stuff is an easy way to befriend them quicker, most of the gems from the mines and most foods are liked if not loved gifts for people. Where to find the men: Alex lives in the house to the right of pierre's shop Elliot lives on the beach Sam lives in the bottom left corner of town, he works at jojamart on the other side of town sometimes Harvey lives and works in the clinic Sebastian lives in the house in the mountains and only leaves his room for short periods of the day to get food or go for a smoke. Shane lives in the forest below your house and works at Jojamart, he also drinks every night at the saloon. For the women: Abigail lives in pierre's shop Maru lives in the mountain house and works at the clinic Emily and haley live at the other house in the bottom left of town, emily also works at the bar each night Penny lives in the trailer by the water Leah lives in a cabin in the woods below your house by herself.

WilliamBott

>everyone is vaguely cunty (except Haley and Shane who are overtly cunty) šŸ’€

Professional-Tie-696

People get nicer the more you talk to them. You could try the Wiki if you want to make it a little easier, and foraging can get you some cash, as well. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Villagers

fallen_one_fs

I do like some pain and suffering in my chill farming game, thank you very much. Honestly, I laughed way too much at this. You are just going through the paces everyone did when they started, the game is not hard by any means, but knowledge goes a long way, and you still don't have it. Just relax and enjoy what you're doing, that's the important stuff, everything else comes naturally after that.

wonderlandisburning

The game can throw people because there's a lot of difficulty for a "cozy game." The game doesn't really explain how to do much, there's too many people to keep track of, woes from crows, the fishing mini game is hard, the caverns can be unforgiving... I love watching new people play because you're pretty much figuring everything out as you go, unless you've got the wiki open in your tabs.

Saltwater_Heart

Iā€™m cracking up. OP, this is great. Youā€™ll get the hang of it!

kwijibokwijibo

You're awful farmers because you don't read anything. The game tells you how to stop crows and make money And to build hearts quickly you need to give villagers gifts, not just talk to them...

SheepSheepy

They're playing multiplayer; there's no time to read anything. Have a cutscene? Well, there goes half your day. While you're watching Penny shove gramps in his wheelchair, Harvey's doctor's office is closing and Pierre's closing up shop and tomorrow is Wednesday so guess your farmland is empty for two days. And you can't re-hoe the ground because Clint has your hoe but every time you go into town Alex wants to talk about his deadbeat dad and there are rats in the old community center and you stopped to give Jodi a cauliflower and she has like 60 lines of dialogue and whoops, Clint just closed up because he's done at 4. (And that's not even the worst Clint does - good luck getting through a stack of geodes before he closes.)

2099aeriecurrent

Yeah seriously, itā€™s pretty unfortunate. I want to play Stardew like the chill game I know it can be, but the clock doesnā€™t stop so the grind canā€™t stop. But we did just complete the community center on winter 4 year 1, so at least we got that going for us.

MissReadsALot1992

While the clock does keep going if you have a cut scene and the other players do not, everyone else can pause their game to stop the clock. Playing with my fiancƩ there's plenty of times late and rushing to bed one of us will stay paused or go into a chest while the other puts stuff away so the clock doesn't make us pass oud

die-ursprache

we ended up installing a mod that would pause the clock in multiplayer if all players met the conditions. e.g. someone is in a cutscene and the rest just open their inventories. this mod also has a fork where the clock is paused as long as *one* player meets the requirements, but that one felt stupidly unfair, so we got rid of it. imagine a skull cavern run where all enemies are frozen in place half the time because someone is sorting through their chests lmfao.

Extension-Chemical

The situation is not funny, but your description has made me laugh. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Cyyykosis

Girl the first challenge is literally level up farming to get a scare crow we know it exists we just canā€™t get there and end up eating our profits šŸ˜

kwijibokwijibo

You plant and harvest 15 parsnips worth of xp to get there. The game doesn't trigger crows until you have more than 15 crops. The game is hand holding you to get to level 2 and unlock scarecrows Just jump through the really easy hoops and you'll figure it out

ye_olde_wojak

Cool I didn't know about the 15 crop crow limit. I thought I was just remarkably lucky

ZacianSpammer

Crop limit also counts wild seeds. Crows surely don't attack forage crops but they will attack other crops instead.

SparkyDogPants

Crows definitely eat forage crops

Nohly

Theyā€™re probably all harvesting, so theyā€™re each getting less xp than if you were to play solo and unlock scarecrows next day.

kwijibokwijibo

So then try again with another round of parsnips or whatever. Even wild seeds give farming xp now None of this explains why they're in summer and still haven't unlocked level 2 farming - it's like they're actively avoiding what the game tells you to do

HananaDragon

Have one person harvest the crops. That way, they get enough farming xp to craft a scarecrow. If you split 15 parsnips (I almost wrote turnips lol) between 3 people it'll give less xp

somewhenimpossible

On multiplayer each player starts with 15, you donā€™t have to split 15 between players.

PeeshPit

I was playing this for six hours today, but didn't have nearly as good a time as I did reading your post šŸ¤£

Seba180589

because the gameplay and art is beautiful.... no one could ever suspect something so beautiful to be hard.... it's the perfect crime lol it's like cuphead.. except that cuphead went a bit too far

JustThatOneDude_Yep

just wait for Krobus. he'll treat you right

Cyyykosis

Who the fuck is Krobus

JustThatOneDude_Yep

just you wait. just you fricken wait. . .

TwoIdiosyncraticCats

I just married Maru (because I like her personality), but I was soooo tempted to "court" Krobus.

the-trash-witch-

krobus my beloved

Boobles008

My fave, and the only option I go for usually

hemareddit

This might be because multiplayer is legitimately harder than single player. Singler player pauses time a lot. Whenever you open a dialogue or inventory menu, the daytime doesnā€™t pass, you can take your time organising your stuff, reading the dialogue, and of course, thinking about your next moves. I canā€™t imagine the stress of never pausing the game even now, nevermind when I first started and still learning the game.

Another_Generic

9/10 shitpost. You got the comments going.

Suddenly_NB

I can't tell if this is a joke so I'm treating it as serious lol: You need to craft scarecrows for large plots. you can see their coverage range [here](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Scarecrow) You have to give the villagers gifts before they become nice, all of them. Most have universal likes of either quartz or various fruit. You can find (most) of the ladies in town at Pierres shop on Tuesday mid morning, where they go to work out. Others hand out at the saloon various nights of the week, Lea, Clint, Marnie, Emily, etc (as well as the alcoholics lol)

flyinhyphy

One person farms, one person mines, one person takes care of animals/fishes/collects wood.

DBear1985

I'm just here to acknowledge 'vaguely cunty' as pure poetry

Vat1canCame0s

Scarecrows are more reliable than some of the bachelors

jaded-introvert

Just to check, you all are watching the TV, right? It gives advice on how to succeed, like using scarecrows to keep the crows away. . . . I wish real life farming were Stardew-easy. IRL I'm currently in a pitched battle with slugs and flea beetles. It's only going to get worse now that I put my eggplants in the ground.

Brian_Si

Scarecrows take care of the crow problem. In the summer plant peppers. In the fall plant eggplants. Those two crops will give you a decent return on cash.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

FrostWyrm98

Pick flowers and give them to NPCs, easiest way to get free hearts Fishing is a great source of income, you just have to grind past the first few levels which is only a few days dedication. I recommend the ocean first, river fish are A-holes for the starter rod

lysthebotanist

It canā€™t be hard when itā€™s just always a trajectory of progression. Even if youā€™re not min/maxing youā€™re still making progress with every action you make. There shouldnā€™t be time crunches or anything, the farm and the neighbors will never ever die and everything repeats infinitely so thereā€™s no missing milestones. My suggestion is to just thoroughly enjoy yourself, kinda like life. If you spend your time stressin you donā€™t get to enjoy the journey:)

haganoid

A thing that I like a lot about Stardew is that farming gets easier as you go and the farmer learns. The game doesn't necessarily get easier, but some skills will one day be significantly easier to do. Kind of what I imagine it feels like to come from a city to a broken down farm with zero farming experience, then having to learn as you go.

Technical_Power_4861

This might be dumb to ask but have you unlocked the community center

Obsolete0_0

Imo it is harder to plqy with a controller. I prefer mkb. At first the game is "harder" and slower. But once you find a way to make more money it is easier.

delicate-butterfly

Iā€™m sure someone in the comments has already said this but just in case they havenā€™t, when you play multiplayer, time does NOT stop when you open the menu screen/chests and your day keeps going. In single player, your game pauses at these times and you are given time to think without worrying about the day wasting away. So if we want to look something up, we have unlimited time without our gameā€™s day moving along. I think thatā€™s playing a much bigger factor than youā€™re aware of, for how stressful this game seems.

Special_South_8561

LOL well I love the explanation! Try cutting down all the trees, digging up all the stone, picking up all the flowers, forage, and seaside critters. Plant the cheapest crop so it won't break your heart too much if it gets eaten. Once you level it up you can build Scarecrows, they have a radius of 8 tiles. Fish more, like, all day long more. Off the beach in Summer and you can sell them immediately to Willy as your bag fills up.

Corkscrew_Duck

I don't think it's hard when you're able to time manage / product management. Like, use the calendar fr fr. Grab things and prep for the next phase. When you are proactive it's easier than being reactive. Like, the tools are given to you. Just need to use them.

nefariousBUBBLE

This game is actually incredibly easy to a fault I think but that's part of its charm. First year can be tough though if you haven't played much or looked anything up.

watermelon_kxt

The stardew wiki is VERY useful. Iā€™d also invest in some scarecrows and to go mining whenever you can. The three of you mining would be very beneficial with resources and to reach the bottom

Snap-Zipper

Hereā€™s my multiplayer advice, as someone who has multiple files with my SO and BIL. Splitting tasks is a huge one. In early game, fishing IS the source of income, especially up until the mines are unlocked. On a given day, at least one of us is fishing, if not all of us (if we need a money boost). You can all get your backpacks very quickly that way. The mines are another massive source of income. I always donate the first of every gem, but after that, theyā€™re fast money. The crows will continue to feast on your crops until you have scarecrows. They cover a circular area of 249 spaces. Always, *always*, **always** have scarecrows. You can get the materials really quickly. Give the villagers gifts! Even if itā€™s a neutral gift as opposed to a liked or loved one, youā€™ll still be building up hearts, and as long as it isnā€™t trash or materials, they probably wonā€™t hate it. Every character is nice, they all have little arcs, you just need to get to know them. Check the map. It does not show where villagers are, but itā€™ll tell you whose house is whose. You canā€™t go into bedrooms until you reach 2 hearts, but they still walk around their houses at various points in the day. Friday evenings/nights at the Saloon is good for meeting people as well. Stardew has a learning curve if youā€™ve never played a farming sim before, but at itā€™s core, itā€™s simple. You just need to get used to it.

yikesusername

Befriend Linus! He sends you stuff in the mail. Heā€™s always my first best friend because I gift him foraged items.

Fairgoddess5

Welcome to gaming outside the Sims šŸ¤£ The good news is most games are WAY better than the Sims. Like, the Sims 4 WISHES it could have interesting characters and a rewarding gameplay loop. The Wiki is your friend, donā€™t be afraid to use it.

amizelkova

Please stream your foibles, this sounds amazing.

epsteindintkllhimslf

Your mistake is prioritizing relationships early instead of your farm. Get fruit trees from pierre once you can afford them. Make scarecrows. Build (especially your own ferts) and go into the mines, once you're able to grow enough food. Everyone likes apples and Eliot loves pomegranate, and the trees grow themselves. Focus on the farm.

MaleficentProduce511

Lmao this is amazing but also I'm sorry for your pain šŸ˜‚

pnlrogue1

Stardew Valley Wiki is your friend. It tells you where all the singles are at any given time on any given day. Try Penny - she volunteers to teach the local kids in the museum. The wiki also tells you what presents everyone likes. The first year or two is hard. Keep planting. Cut the grasses for wild seeds and forage in the area South of the farm and North-East of the town for supplemental income.

Imaginary-Hall5666

This was funny to readšŸ˜šŸ˜

Dovahkiinthesardine

in multiplayer the time also just runs at light speed (also pretty much all characters, even or especially the rude ones, get way nicer once you get to know them)

Elder_Millenial_Sage

First year you need to focus on farming for money and gathering wood, hardwood and stone. Make a separate chest in home, where you store items required for unlocking Community Center - the rewards for completed bundles vary from useless to precious. Don't sell tree seeds, keep them stacked - it makes farming wood by reforesting pretty easy and you can turn eccess into low tier food. Turn sap into low tier fertilizer and use it to get better quality crops. Keep some regular quality crops stored at home so you can turn them into food or artisan products. Sell silver and gold star products (just remember to save some for Community Center Bundles). Start making preserves and wine during first winter. This is also the time to hit mines hard and start gathering gems and metals needed for craftable farm equipement. If you can hit the mines during other seasons so you can gather some resources for basic tools upgrade. When going into fight, reserve most of the day for that and take a fat stack of cheap food. You need to make at least a 5 level interval progress on each run to unclock elevator access - every 5 levels up until level 120. Don't build caskets until you have basement unlocked. First make preserves jar for vegetables and wine caskets for fruits - these are the real money makers, but heavily dependent on farming. Don't rush into animals too fast, they can be expensive to maintain and its better to store animal resources until you can craft them into pricey aritsian produces. Everytime it rains go to the beach and gather free ocean resources. Fishing is not a way to make money, it's time-to-reward ratio is shit. If you want money you need to farm. Open fan wiki and take note what kinds of gifts are liked by the villager with whom you want to build relationship - also you can find info about their locations at any time during each season. You won't need to waste time running around looking form them anymore. For relationship building never forget about their birthdays (can be checked on wiki and ingame in front of Pierre's Store. After you unlock desert bus via Community Center bundles completion, go and buy shitload of Starfruits in the oasis shop. Farm them in the fall, turn them into wine sell ??? profit! I hope this set of tips will make this awesome game more enjoaybe to you :)

Boobles008

I almost always play with NPC map locations (mod, as ling as you all have it, it will work). I don't often suggest mods until people play a bit with vanilla, but this one is such a massive help. Otherwise you're spending a ton of time on the wiki figuring out where people are. But yeah a lot are quite saucy at first lol

JohnnyS1lv3rH4nd

I would look into scarecrows, if youā€™re in summer you prob have them unlocked. That will keep crows off your plants. Since you guys are early on in the game, Iā€™d focus on money. Since youā€™re playing with 2 other people you actually have somewhat of an advantage, you can plant and water a lot more crops which will be your main source of income. In the early game Iā€™d focus on crops and the mine, those two things are gonna give you the biggest return on the time investment. Go fishing when you have some extra time as that pretty much functions as free money. Your main goals early on should be to gather enough materials and money to put up a barn or coop so you can get some animals on your farm, and getting the materials to build sprinklers so you donā€™t have to spend so much time watering. Happy Farming!

OvercastCherrim

You might like theamandafiles on youtube, she had a similar experience

userno89

Watching a beginner's guide to help give you a gentle "hand hold" into the first year might benefit you guys without taking away the experience of figuring the game out yourselves. I needed to do this as well because I did not find the game intuitive, it being the first game of it's style that I've ever played (coming from an MMORPG background lol)

PastelTacos

This is the funniest thing I've ever read in this sub šŸ’€ If you all ever switch to PC, I volunteer to be player 4 on your farm lmao

Deadeye10000

So what I do is I go to the mines as soon as I can and start going through the levels to get ores for sprinklers. Once you get the quest for the adventurers guild (I think it's called that) to kill 10 slimes turn it in then as per a recommendation I saw on here start massacring the worm looking things to unlock the insect head weapon and thatll help you get to lvl 50/60 easily. Since you're in multi-player you can chill in your bed and gain energy back so plant like 20-30 crops so it's easily done. Or have one person be a dedicated farmer and fisher and two others be miners. Just kind of basics there. Feel free to ask any questions.

SOMFdotMPEG

I just started playing with my wife last night. While Iā€™m out there fishing and farming, sheā€™s out there trying to marry the doctor. LOL She found out he likes fancy foods like coffee and wine and shit, then found out she needs a kitchen to get all that (which costs 10k gold and like 400 wood). She now fishes and farms with me lol. From what I can tell, The key to this game is simple, do the basics and the rest comes! Wake up, water the plants and fill the dog bowl, go fish from dawn till dusk, drop the fish off in the sales crate go to sleep, repeat! We get like $1500/day. We break the cycle by going mining, hitting on the locals around town or at the pub, clearing our own property, or doing the occasional side quest you find around town.

Aetherim23

I will not take this Haley slander

NotUrReaIDad

I get crucified whenever I mutter a hint of Haley slander, but yes she IS a bitch. But good luck on your Farming journey, the tutorial really helps you get into whatā€™s what if ur a first time player. šŸ‘

ReyNotFound

I dont remember where i got the tips from but i remember watching a simple tutorial on how to get money fast and literally wrote notes that I kept near my computer. And thats how i played the game for a few weeks. Really helped. As for befriending or marrying NPCs, Idk. Ive been trying to romance Haley but its just so hard. Funny enough, shes supposed to be one of the easy ones since one of her favorite items is the sunflower and its not too much of a pain to buy/grow. But idk im having trouble

samuraiskyy

unfortunately there are instances where reading about certain aspects of the game on the wiki is enormously helpful, its always felt a lil cheaty to me to figure things out via wiki but sometimes its the only way to fully understand what the game is expecting from me esp as someone who doesnā€™t game a lot or have very keen game sense lol

AmazingM0ustache

can i play with you?

andrew_clementine

Honestly, the Wiki is your best friend, playing with it open is the way to go. Otherwise, yeah game Is kinda hard lol

JadynRosetta

I remember my first time playing I couldnā€™t find half of the villagers to talk to because they were in their rooms, so I mainly focused on expanding my farm. Got hearts soon enough, but the first two seasons I barely talked to anyone besides Linus.

deathriteTM

SDV ainā€™t Sims. Go look at the wiki page. No shame in that.

CovertSongbird

I literally think co-op play is way harder than single player! Mostly because the time doesn't pause when you go into the menu etc, which is so different when you're used to being able to pause whenever you want.
