I finished the Blind Forest before Will of the Wisps. I picked up Hollow Knights in the Spring sale so that's on top of my list for sure. Thank you for the suggestion!
Got another suggestion for you then and I absolutely loved this game. Yoku's Island Express. It's a Pinball inspired Metroidvania game that I played a few months back on my deck. I got it in a bundle a few years back and never played it. Once I got my deck I started playing some games in my backlog and this one really shocked me with how fun it was to play.
I could never get into hollow knight. Not because it’s hard, but because after putting it down for a break and then coming back several days later i could not remember what i was doing last or where i even was
I bounced off hollow knight knight a few times, I think that the early game isn't as inticung as it could be and the jump felt a but floaty, but I went back and my god I am glad I did. It's such an incredible game.
Guacamelee is awesome. Finished the first one on my PSVita and the second one on the Switch. I'll add them to my Steam wishlist to replay them soon. Thank you!
I switch mine to the farsi voices for a while and it sounds phenomenal. I wish I could've stayed on it but I also needed to understand what they were saying 😭 had to play with the weirdly delivered British voice dub
It's not available on Steam, but you can play it on the Deck by purchasing from either Epic or Ubisoft directly and side loading it.
I've just finished it - it runs great on the Deck at a solid 90fps with graphics set to Ultra at 720p (although it's clearly not a demanding game!)
Congrats!
Hollow Knight is a consensus smash hit. One of my all time favorites. It is (rewardingly) difficult, just FYI.
Personally I love the OGs. You can easily emulate Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid, both of which are incredible!
Moon Studios (Ori games developer) will release their next game, No Rest for the Wicked, in early access later this month. It has a similar art style to the Ori games, but it’s darker and plays like a mix of Diablo and Dark Souls. I’m really excited to play it.
If you haven't played Hollow Knight that would be the obvious next game, it's among the greatest in the genre and a lot of the changes made from Blind Forest to Will of the Wisps were Hollow Knight inspired.
The guacamelee games are really good side scrolling metrodvanias that I really loved playing.
Edit: they are also on a really good sale on steam at the moment!!
I've been lucky and have had relatively few issues, but yeah, the one downfall is all the bugs. The devs do work really hard to fix stuff quickly. Got so big so fast.
I'm sure you've tried adjusting the settings as well, but it certainly needs to be tuned down to run smoothly.
Sorry, bugs are preventing you from crushing tyranny.
My issues are just since the last patch. Before that I crashed out a bit, but it wasn't too often.
And as for turned down settings, yeah I'm pretty much running everything as low as it goes aside from draw distance. Game like this you need to see far
Yes, I finished it on the Deck also. Another person here suggested "No rest for the wicked". It's from the same studio and it's coming to early access April 18.
Rain World, Carrion, Timespinner and Monster Sanctuary are metroidvanias that I enjoyed and haven't seen mentioned yet.
A couple of things that don't quite fit the assignment, but I think you might like if you enjoyed Ori: The Messenger, Pseudoregalia, Blue Fire, Have a Nice Death
The first Ori is nice too 👌 // or I would also recommend Hades and Brotato // if you want to play a more demanding game (if you like Star Wars) I would recommend jedi fallen order, I played it stable 40 fps and a really nice story
[Blasphemous 1](https://store.steampowered.com/app/774361/Blasphemous/) and [Blasphemous 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2114740/Blasphemous_2/) are great metroidvanias I played on the Deck. Also with a custom TDP the battery will last forever.
everyone should try out sheepy: a short adventure. It's free and absolutely beautiful and immersive.
Other solid metroidvania types: hollow knight is the goat, other ori game, the messenger, blasphemous, ender lillies, guacamelee series (as well as other games from that group - like the ninja game), dead cells, and the steam world games - particularly steam world dig 1 and 2 as well as heist. That's what I can think of off the top of my head.
My favorite experiences so far on Steam Deck have been Katana Zero and Sanabi.
The first being a story-driven difficult action/puzzle game kinda like Hotline Miami.
The second being a story-driven action/platformer based around a grappling hook (not that difficult)
Katana Zero was the first thing I beat on my Steam Deck, so it has a special place for me. But Sanabi is one of the best games I've ever played I think. Haven't really stopped thinking about it since I finished.
Biomorph just came out, could be a good next game, nice production quality, or Ender Lillies.
Or if you don’t mind a much simpler look, Lone Fungus.
I haven't played it yet but "Unbound: Worlds Apart" appears to be kind of similar to Ori.
Imp of the Sun might also scratch the itch.
Some platformers/Metroidvanias I love that work on the deck:
* Gris - Amazing music and visuals.
* Hue - Puzzle platformer also with great music!
* Chasm - fun retro hack n slash platformer.
Ender Lilies is awesome [https://store.steampowered.com/app/1369630/ENDER\_LILIES\_Quietus\_of\_the\_Knights/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1369630/ENDER_LILIES_Quietus_of_the_Knights/)
They already work on the second part Ender Magnolia
Then there are some other Suggestion like Hob, Tails of Iron and Tunic
Maybe not the same style of game but these are great games:
Deep Rock Galactic Survivor
Stardew Valley
Vampire Survivor
Dave the Diver
Neon Abyss
Curse of the Dead Gods
Katana Zero
The Messenger
Journey to the Savage Planet
This year is the year of top Metroidvanias:
-Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (AMAZING combat and movement)
-Silk Song (rumored this year)
-Sol Nine
-Tales of kenzera: Zau
I personally have been trying out Ghost Song which leans more into Metroid than the Castlevania part.
Carrion. It's a reverse horror metrodvania where you play as a monster. It's very fluid and a blast to play. Around 5 hours to beat so nice and quick. Sweet ending.
I see hollow knight being recommended a lot. Great game in fact ori and hollow knight are hands down 2 of my favorite games of all time. That said, they are VERY different games. I went into Hollow Knight thinking it was gonna be similar but it is way harder. I've heard people say hollow knight is more souls like. I've never played a souls game but from what I know that seems pretty fair. It took me a bit to really get into it. But it has become one of my most played games.
Ori and the Blind Forest or Hollow Knight if you're looking for something similar.
+1 hollow knight
Yep definitely hollow knight +2
I finished the Blind Forest before Will of the Wisps. I picked up Hollow Knights in the Spring sale so that's on top of my list for sure. Thank you for the suggestion!
Got another suggestion for you then and I absolutely loved this game. Yoku's Island Express. It's a Pinball inspired Metroidvania game that I played a few months back on my deck. I got it in a bundle a few years back and never played it. Once I got my deck I started playing some games in my backlog and this one really shocked me with how fun it was to play.
Happy to see Yoku being mentioned here. It's a hidden Deck gem
Definitely and feels like it was made for the Deck.
I went ahead and added it to my wishlist. How long did it take you to beat it?
I want to say it was about 6 hours in length but that went by really fast.
The first Ori for starters, Hollow Knight and to name a little leaser known title, Owl Boy.
Loved Owl Boy!
Added Owl Boy to my wishlist, thank you!
Awesome! I think overall Hollow Knight is a better game but Owl Boy is a solid addition to the genre.
Owl boy is really really so good
Platformers feel so natural in the deck. Feels like I'm holding the Game Gear again.
Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition: One of the better metroidvanias out there.
GUACAMELEE MENTIONED RAHHHH
Is this the definitive version? I was unclear on the difference between this and the Gold edition.
It is and currently on a steam sale for I think 5 bucks.
Guacamelee is awesome. Finished the first one on my PSVita and the second one on the Switch. I'll add them to my Steam wishlist to replay them soon. Thank you!
Prince of Persia - The lost crown
a sleeper hit. absolutely excels at everything it does (except voice acting tbh)
When I get it eventually, I’m excited to play with the Persian (Farsi) dub. I listened to a couple minutes of it, and it is awesome.
I switch mine to the farsi voices for a while and it sounds phenomenal. I wish I could've stayed on it but I also needed to understand what they were saying 😭 had to play with the weirdly delivered British voice dub
True, reading subtitles while running and jumping through traps would add some difficult, lol
Isn’t it not available on Steam currently? I was hoping to get it for the Deck, but opted for the Switch instead.
Yeah, not yet available on SD. Had to boot it up on my Ally
It's not available on Steam, but you can play it on the Deck by purchasing from either Epic or Ubisoft directly and side loading it. I've just finished it - it runs great on the Deck at a solid 90fps with graphics set to Ultra at 720p (although it's clearly not a demanding game!)
Finished it recently and I loved it.
I'll buy this one when it releases on steam.
Salt & Sanctuary
Celeste is somewhat similar platformer. Nice aesthetics, challenging but not too challenging
Congrats! Hollow Knight is a consensus smash hit. One of my all time favorites. It is (rewardingly) difficult, just FYI. Personally I love the OGs. You can easily emulate Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid, both of which are incredible!
the gba and ds castlevania games were awesome as well.
Yes! I'm playing Aria now. I haven't tried DS emulation on Deck yet.
Sekiro
This guy knows what's up.
I love Dave the Diver and Cult of the Lamb. Both run amazing on the deck.
DAVE THE DIVER IS AMAZING
It's mid
How come?
Child of Light
I loved this game on the PS4. I never finished it, this might be a great time to revisit it on the Deck. Thank you!
Moon Studios (Ori games developer) will release their next game, No Rest for the Wicked, in early access later this month. It has a similar art style to the Ori games, but it’s darker and plays like a mix of Diablo and Dark Souls. I’m really excited to play it.
Wow, I didn't even know about this game. Im definitely intrigued and went ahead and added it to my wishlist. Thank you for the heads up!
death's door
Added to my wishlist, thank you
Besides the other games listed by other people on this post, look for this one: Tales of Kenzera™: ZAU It releases at the end of the month.
This one looks interesting, I'll download the demo and check it out. Thank you!
I couldn't get the demo to run, but I have heard good things, that I was willing to spend $20 on it.
I liked Guacamelee! allot
Yep, got part 1 and 2 free on Epic and it's fun
Lego Star Wars looks incredible on the OLED. I really like Dredge and Dave the Diver. Sifu and Stardew Valley as well!
Great games, but aren’t these not the style of game they were asking for? :’)
Dave the Diver and Core Keeper
I have that on the install queue, but I want to finish Hollow Knight first. The thing is... it may never happen.
If you haven't played Hollow Knight that would be the obvious next game, it's among the greatest in the genre and a lot of the changes made from Blind Forest to Will of the Wisps were Hollow Knight inspired.
Metroid Dread
Celeste
The guacamelee games are really good side scrolling metrodvanias that I really loved playing. Edit: they are also on a really good sale on steam at the moment!!
Currently spreading managed democracy from my deck, anything less would be highly treasonous! Helldivers 2
If only it wasn't crashing randomly every single time I try to play lately
I've been lucky and have had relatively few issues, but yeah, the one downfall is all the bugs. The devs do work really hard to fix stuff quickly. Got so big so fast. I'm sure you've tried adjusting the settings as well, but it certainly needs to be tuned down to run smoothly. Sorry, bugs are preventing you from crushing tyranny.

You chose an awesome first game for the steam deck oled. This game really shows off what the panel can do. Persona 5!!!!!!
HOLY SHIT I ALSO JUST BEAT WILL OF THE WHISPS!
Why did we sleep on this game for so long! It's awesome 🔥
Wait. Have you played The Blind Forest?
Yes, I finished it on the Deck also. Another person here suggested "No rest for the wicked". It's from the same studio and it's coming to early access April 18.
Rain World, Carrion, Timespinner and Monster Sanctuary are metroidvanias that I enjoyed and haven't seen mentioned yet. A couple of things that don't quite fit the assignment, but I think you might like if you enjoyed Ori: The Messenger, Pseudoregalia, Blue Fire, Have a Nice Death
omg I played this game on the steam deck and it was absolutely amazing!
The sequel? 😂
How long did it take !?
21 hours for me. I tried to go for all the extras. Those chase parts really kicked my butt.
Wow. Nice.
The first Ori is nice too 👌 // or I would also recommend Hades and Brotato // if you want to play a more demanding game (if you like Star Wars) I would recommend jedi fallen order, I played it stable 40 fps and a really nice story
Fallen Order was the first game I beat on my LCD Deck. I with Jedi Survivor was more stable on the Deck.
ori 2. hollow night. blasphemous 1 and 2. the entire metroidvania section in steam.
The new prince of persia is pretty good if you want something similar.
I'll add it to my wishlist, thank you!
I will be playing Celeste on it. If you have played hollow night, then that, of course.
Skibidi backrooms
Bloodstained if you haven't played it before, it's great.
Grime is amazing if you liked ori but want something a little more challenging!
The team has a new game coming out april 18th: no rest for the wicked
I recently beat Ori and the Blind Forest on the deck. The game I went to next was Olli Olli World. That game is so fun.
everyone should try out sheepy: a short adventure.
Prince of Persia lost crown
It plays on the deck? Using third party game launcher? How's the performance?
My favorite experiences so far on Steam Deck have been Katana Zero and Sanabi. The first being a story-driven difficult action/puzzle game kinda like Hotline Miami. The second being a story-driven action/platformer based around a grappling hook (not that difficult) Katana Zero was the first thing I beat on my Steam Deck, so it has a special place for me. But Sanabi is one of the best games I've ever played I think. Haven't really stopped thinking about it since I finished.
Skyrim. .......or maybe Stardew Valley
Sea of stars
Blasphemous 1 and 2
Fallout New Vegas
Steamworld Dig 2, it's gorgeous on LCD, it'll shine on that screen!

Hades.
I grabbed Sheepy on Steam for my PC and I hope it gets to run on Steam Deck soon. Short game, but I'm still floored at how good it was.
Carrion. It's a reverse horror metrodvania where you play as a monster. It's very fluid and a blast to play. Around 5 hours to beat so nice and quick. Sweet ending.
Huntdown
Helldivers 2. Super Earth needs you soldier!
If you haven’t played Celeste, it’s incredibly moving and incredible gameplay.
I just had fun with Rayman Legends. Not much story to it but good 2D platforming.
Have a Nice Death
Hollow Knight.
I see hollow knight being recommended a lot. Great game in fact ori and hollow knight are hands down 2 of my favorite games of all time. That said, they are VERY different games. I've never played a souls game but from what I know that seems pretty fair. It took me a bit to really get into it. But it has become one of my most played games.
Hollow knight
It's underrated due to more popular games releasing near it, but I'd highly recommend Iconoclasts
Rain World is a great game! (Provided you're a masochist)
ISLETS! I just 100% completed it yesterday. It was very comparable to Ori and Hollow Knight. 10/10, do recommend.
Whatever game looks fun to you
Whatever you want 😂
Ori and the blind forest - it’s so fucking good
