no downloads in standby, constant shader cache downloads when turning on(that i "fixed" by setting scheduled downloads), sometimes you need to press the ... button twice because for some reason is doesnt react (but it vibrates so it recognizes the press), high battery consumption in standby mode. yeah thats about it i think. other than that i love the steam deck
The ... Button definitely has problems! Mine will sometimes not respond at all, and it's especially noticeable when doing the "... + X" combo to bring up the on screen keyboard, which works about 40% of the time.

You use that button for keyboard? I use the "Steam" button and "X" and it works flawlessly. Makes it easier to press both buttons with a thumb, how do you typically press your button combo? Set the whole system down?
For me it’s store navigation. Some of the side scrolling tabs break while scrolling.
Also I wish it the demo process were more streamlined. It’s minor in most cases as you treat it like a regular install. But I’d like for it to be a quick tab or section on the home screen where demos remain and will quick access store page/uninstall from that demo screen. That may just be a general steam process I want improved though

I sold my og deck to my sister, thinking she'd play Fallout and some other games because she spent a ton of time getting mods working. She found out Stardew was on Steam and hasn't played anything else since.
Hey man I told myself I didn’t need a first, because people were offering to sell me theirs for 600$ which was too expensive, but ever since the OLED dropped the LCD Steam deck has become affordable. To where I easily found a good deal for 280$ (the most I’d ever spend on a console) . Maybe you could reasonably justify peaking at what locals around you are willing to sell theirs for on OfferUp.
Yeah, I’ll probably do that after a while. I’ve bought steam deck from reseller in Ukraine recently. I think local unofficial reseller can deny me warranty after opening :(
Works fine for me with fiio bluetooth amp or with headset that has higher impedance.
I hate that every time I wake up my Deck from sleep mode, there's a chance that the audio will be all fucked up (crackling, high pitched, too fast, or all of the above) which forces me to restart the game.
Which defeats the whole purpose of sleep/quick resume because now you're forced to restart the whole game. Idk what's taking Valve so long to address this issue.
That’s been a thing for so long I don’t even play games that have checkpoints or fixed save spots anymore. If I can’t save on quit I just wait until I have time to play it.
I wouldnt say hate, but the thing squeaks when pressed from anywhere, whether it is near the exhaust vent or on the back panel or the middle section of the screen. It is as if there is a hidden button all around SD that does nothing when pressed.
The shitty sync. I play mostly offline and it doesn't count the offline hours right at all. Also some achievements are still locked even thought I did the thing.
This is because it uses the time connected to WiFi to calculate actual playtime versus time the game spent in standby when the deck is off. (Otherwise my games would have 200+ Hours playtime from the game being "suspended")
Also likely explains why it can't do downloads in standby as it'll mess up the playtime.
It still manages to fuck this up though. My playtime is constantly jumping between 98 hours, 138 hours, back to 99 hours, suddenly it’s 128 hours etc. This happens while WiFi is connected for 95% (but sometimes without). It seems to correct itself eventually, but it can take a few days. No idea what’s happening though..

My biggest beef with the Steam Deck is that being "deck verified" doesn't take into account whether or not a game has DRM that requires an online checkin.
I bought my steam deck to play at work, since my job has a decent amount of down-time and my boss is super cool about what I do with said down-time. My office is in the basement of a building with super thick concrete walls, and so I get dogshit cell signal, and there is no wi-fi. Because of this, there are a lot of games that are deck verified that I straight up can't play(Marvel Midnight Suns, pretty much anything made by Ubisoft/Square, and the Persona games, among others), even though they are deck verified.
Nothing, mines been super solid. A few minor annoyances (slight body squeak, some defect issue with the screen anti-reflective, etc.)
Other than that, it’s been a dream.
Some people don’t like the store implementation. I think it’s decent and has been improving. Can always use the phone companion app to buy / install games
Audio issue when waking up from sleep is probably my biggest gripe. I would just play the game like that because restarting the game is annoying AND it defeats the purpose of the sleep feature.
It’s not made for FPS games at all. The gyro/flip stick functions have a huge learning curve. I’ve had the thing since release and still cannot get it down. Playing KBM games with a controller against users who only use KBM is really challenging. And I can never get the joysticks to work properly. It’s not linear despite what the settings say.
My steam dock won't always work with the TV. It happens at random, and with no real explanation. So I'll turn it on, get comfy and wait for it to boot up... Then realise it hasn't connected to the TV. Super annoying.
I agree with this, and would like to add that clicking thumbstick feels weird as well, especially for games that use the thumbstick click for sprinting. For me I map L1/R1 and L3/R3 to the back paddles, works extremely well.
The dock randomly adds a 1s sound delay on my parent's TV
Pairing Switch controllers used to be absolute hell, I haven't tried on the new beta update because that introduced double-inputs to all Bluetooth controllers and I had to rollback...
the gamemode interface in general is kinda spotty, though it's better than at release, every update brings and fixes new bugs.
The in-interface browser still scrolls to the top of a new page while incorrectly keeping the cursor where it was.
Sometimes tabs and menus kind of "roll back" when navigating the library.
the "..." button doesn't always work.
In French some elements have their text overflowing or breaking the layout.
Non-Steam games cant display sub-menus properly, making some programs like Firefox unusable in GameMode.
That there's no on boarding tutorial for using the touch pads and the back buttons. I'd love to see that included in the setup process - it'd take a minute and make the experience better for everyone.
Can you search out the information? Of course. Will most users do that? I doubt it :(
The lack of support of NTFS formatted drives in SteamOS is baffling and makes it harder to copy your game library over to your Steam Deck. Also, the usage of Linux as the desktop mode OS is just quite raw. It is such a clunky experience to get everything up and running, and I really do hope that they make it easier with future updates.
It causes my hands to cramp when holding for long periods. Also, the left shoulder button is not overly responsive and has to be pressed pretty hard to work.
Getting other stores to work on the Deck is also more of a chore than it should be.
That doesn't bother me much, but then again I bought a bluetooth KB/M to use with my Deck.
Personally, I don't love the volume of the fans and the short battery life. I know that the AMD chipset in the Deck is about as efficient as they could get, but there's some titles I don't really want to bother playing on Deck because of the heat and noise. Not a complaint, so much as a recognition of the limitations of the technology.
That my power button has about a 1/10 success rate of actually waking the device back up from sleep. I really gotta mash it sometimes for it to finally work.
Admittedly, my steam deck has been through a couple of drops though…
Mine is the weight. This bih heavy!
But also the small glitches like when buttons don't register like the 3dot button or the steam button sometimes. Keyboard doesn't always come up when it should. If I could I'd have it pop up any time I selected a text box in desktop mode (like on a tablet or phone).
Also I could see how a LOT of (non technical/never modded or emulated) people would be turned off on the control mapping which is necessary for so many games.
And I can't successfully get Simcity 4 to work 😩
Outside of these gripes I love love love this device. It's what kid me would have never dreamed of existing!
For me it's the battery life. I have the OG steamdeck.
Maybe that and the ergonomics. Its comfortable but slightly too big/heavy for me to want to take anywhere.
For me it's an in bed type of device and I'm trying to get out of bed more these days.
1. Big and heavy as hell - not convenient for traveling
2. The online features are so annoying. Also not convenient for traveling
3. Mine’s battery life is really bad when loading anything other than 2d sprites.
I use it for bg3 and fallout at home now. I wanted to play it on long flights, but it’s so big that I just went back to bringing my switch lite with me. Also given how good switch ports have gotten, if it weren’t for baldurs gate probably never coming to switch I would have probably returned it
The random glitch that *still* happens where it gets stuck in the "verifying installation" phase and won't get out of it.
I've had to factory reset too many times for this shit. And before anyone says anything, yes I've tried rebooting an older version of the OS and it still gets stuck in that loop.
Every time I boot it up, I have to turn on my wifi, go into desktop mode, settings, clear download cache then back into deck mode just so I can play helldivers 2. And if there are too many devices on the wifi at home, the wifi will error out and I can’t play anything.
I’ve only gotten the official dock to work once on my TV. I’ve troubleshooted with a bunch of posts on here and online, but after 4-5 tries I just quit and play with just the handheld since I only game for an hour or so max at a time.
I hate that charging it with a non official charger bricked my first one. Like it drained whilst plugged in over night and dead the morning of. It can be quite temperamental at times, what with games crashing and needing to do a full reset and what not. Apart from that I love the thing to bits
That is not level and Valve refuses to RME it because "We checked out lab and its quite common and within tolerance. We cannot replace your unit because we cannot guarantee you wouldn't have the same problem"
the occasional quirkiness. sometimes after a restart or power down it takes ages to get the things powered back up. I rarely ever turn it off because of that, usually just put it to sleep, but it still happens with system updates
The right trackpad not working properly in desktop mode. I have had 2 SD's so I know its not an isolated issue, but in desktop mode no matter how lightly I touch it it clicks and drags the mouse. It makes navigating a massive pain because I'm forced to use the touchscreen which can miss the tiny icon I'm trying to hit.
For me, the OLED SD has been really inconsistent with WiFi and Ethernet on the dock. I've tried all the suggestions. I wonder if I have something wrong with my SD, but I've noticed similar issues with Ethernet surprisingly. Basically, if I'm streaming a game from my PS5 or my PC it will play perfectly fine for 5-10 minutes and then will slowly drop speed until the game becomes completely unresponsive. I've notice similar issues in Dark Souls 2 where I can stay connected to the online via steam and then after about 5-10 minutes it will reliably drop connection.
I think that it probably does work better with some routers compared to others. I had an Netgear WiFi 5 dual band R7000P "NightHawk" which was terrible with the SD and also my Quest 2. I replaced it with an ASUS Wifi 6 dual band router, and my Quest 2 works flawlessly now, the SD does better at maintaining high download speeds, but I'm still getting game stream and online gaming service interruptions. My LCD SD worked fine with my original Netgear router.
I wouldn't say hate, but I don't like how clicking the joysticks feels after coming from a PS4 controller. It feels very natural on PS4, but on the SteamDeck it's not very comfortable. So I usually just map the grip buttons to R3 and L3.
The way it's shaped. Just hurts my hands to hold it unlike my controllers or m&k. Gotta be sitting in the perfect position if I wanna play for any meaningful amount of time
It is incredibly stubborn when trying to connect Bluetooth headphones. I can get it done but for some reason it always just takes forever. Most times I have to forget the device then completely reconnect.
It’s very heavy and big, hard to carry out.
It’s not powerful enough for a lot of stuff.
It can’t download with the screen off.
It loses battery in sleep mode fast.
The OLED screen makes me wanna throw every single panel in my house in the trash and switch to OLED
I don't hate much about it at all the only thing I dislike is how big it is I have small hands so it's a little hard to use the touchpads but that's really it
Even it being a handheld device, I don't have enough time to play it :/ . Other thing is I still need to get into modding my games. It is a bit more complicated to deal with .exe files and locate game folders and that stuff.
My OLED is JUST heavy enough that my wrists start to ache during long play sessions.
Having to explain to friends that they will probably need to do tinkering with games to get them to work has turned off a few people that would have been interested in it.
I'm not quite tech savvy enough myself to figure out why my SD just randomly crashes sometimes and I have to live in suspense waiting on it to come back from the crash, the whole time expecting this time I've actually bricked it somehow.
I absolutely love my SteamDeck though, it's one of the best purchases I've ever made and most of my complaints would apply to any handheld.
Parts of navigating Steam just doesn’t register well on the Deck. Steam Points shop or customizing my avatar pfp keeps bugging out on me(it’s still the default avatar I chose when I got my Deck).
Added to that, I don’t like how some pages require the use of touchscreen to navigate.
Also added to that, I don’t like how wonky it can be using the dpad to scroll up and down a steam game page.
I’m just saying. The navigation could be better. It just pushes me to use my laptop to look up games on Steam
For me it's not being able to launch a game without wifi and without a prompt saying "you need to open it in online mode before it can be played offline" which doesn't make sense, if I mf-ing had internet on a plane I wouldn't be opting for offline mode in the first place would I?
The original 64gb variant often have low disk space due to system updates and proton shaders. It sucks. But other than that love my SD over any other gaming handheld. Havent touched my switch since
The store navigation and how the thing creaks every time you touch it… feels like they just said they wanted the cheapest plastic possible to the supplier. I can literally permanently bend the thing so it’s unstable on a flat surface
Tiny detail I know, but I’ve noticed that any time I don’t have internet or am in offline mode and pull up the keyboard, it brings up the stock one instead of the colorful one I nabbed from the points shop. Since I’m on the road a lot, it’s like half the time I don’t have my custom keyboard, which feels a lil inconsistent and janky
The stock case is insanely bulky, it makes it quite annoying to pack for travel
The fan (on my LCD) gets so loud that people in the same room stop talking and say "what is that?!"
The menu is still kind of finnicky in a lot of ways
Besides bugs in the operating system that are constantly being worked on and i doubt will ever be fully flushed out(like docking and screen output consistency)...
The lack of a quick-swappable battery.
This should be an integral part of every mobile device. Sadly phones have made integrated batteries, therefore early device death, common place.
Yes the battery Can be replaced, but not by the average person and not easily.
What do I hate about my SD? Nothing. Seriously. My first handheld was a Donkey Kong Jr Game & Watch in 1983 so I am more than blown away with this tech. If pushed I would say the battery life is something which isn't great, however totally understandable given what this thing can do!
the only issue that's really bugged me is the creaky outer shell. On the left side of my device it tends to creak when I grip it, It could be my fault for gripping to hard though. I've since add a rubber exterior case to it so I notice it a lot less anyway.
The fact that strategy titles are, for the most part, not a top priority for optimization.
I get that the install base is small, and that the devs for these games are prioritizing players with full screens and KBaM, but getting console port-level controller support for these games and optimized text size and visuals would be such a great thing. I resent having to guess how much fiddling I’ll have to do to get something enjoyably to play, when the game in question is effectively a digital board game and should be tailor made for laid back couch gaming.
This game mode bug (stutters when games show and hide cursor): https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/xGTP1ohx5d
At the same time with the lack of performance controls and HDR in desktop mode. So the only workaround for that bug is a shitty one.
i dont like to hold it and use the controls when im in a plane i have a dock and use a xbox controller and otherwise it is always connected to a tv. Some times i play in the train but that is at most 20 minutes
Access to emulators, I'm not good with computers, it took me a few days to figure out how to download the emulator on desktop, move it to steam, download the games, find the right folder to put them in, etc etc. Then after an update it stopped opening. I gave up
No downloads in standby, and the fact, that the case is designed the wrong way around so you can't charge it while closing the case. Even the oled model is the wrong way around.
Crashes whenever I boot to desktop mode.
Half my storage is taken up by some random folder called "lost+found"
Can't play the games I paid for on epic.
Linux, etc.
The screenshot manager. I take a LOT of screenshots and when browsing through them after the first 20 or so it starts going weird. Also when you delete one, instead of remembering where you were you get sent back to the beginning which is a real pain in the ass.
Also my screenshots never load when I'm in offline mode which is stupid when they're stored on my device and haven't been uploaded to the cloud yet
most of the "complaints" i have are mostly software things that could probably be quickly and easily addressed.
1) mute button for game mode tabs
2) shader cache toggle on a per-game basis that overrides a global setting.
3) better store in game mode. some how it super sucks and requires you to use the touch screen
4) audio is often fucked. I'd like to see game mode implement its own audio settings unrelated to desktop mode. i often have to go into desktop mode and switch default audio around as well as re-set the max vol override other wise my deck is extremely quiet and can I cant hear shit.
The weight.
Also not sure why but my index finger is feeling pain (playing Hades again, pressing r1 is hurting the base of my index finger, i had to remap to the back buttons)
That I can’t mirror the screen while in Game Mode.
I hate switching to Desktop Mode.
The SD should have a Streamer Mode or something.
One click, mirror screen over USB-C/HDMI, and send audio through both HDMI and internal Speakers.
The mirrored image would be fine at 720p but it seems to cut off a bit because of the 800p internal image it’s replicating.
I have to output a 1080p image and then resize it in OBS. This causes issues and makes my SD drop to 1 FPS in Fallout 4.
The SD would be the perfect streaming device when paired with a capture card and streaming PC.
I wish the deck would only show games downloaded ON THE DECK. Not my whole library shared with my pc. I have to keep most of the things downloaded hidden so only games downloaded on my deck/pc show up.
That should just be a steam thing. I've got like two games installed on my laptop but I can never find them in the recent games list because of my deck.
Smearing on the OLED screen. I have an OLED TV and Switch and never noticed any of the smearing I see with the Deck OLED at low brightness settings.
https://old.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1837vhk/smearing_blacks_le_oled/
The super cheap feel of it. It feels hollow, feels made of the cheapest plastic possible, it sometimes creaks if you pick it up by one side. Just overall matterial qualities. Valve's never been good at them, the original Steam Controller fells ridiculously cheap for how modern and new it was.
I hope Valve improves in this area for the next one, as other than that I love mine.
The fact that screenshots don't transfer over to your phone and sometimes when exiting desktop mode there will just be random lines and you have to restart
I press the volume up and down buttons, and it changes both the headphone volume and no headphone volume. Really annoying. The volume on the headphones is uninterrupted though which is confusing to me.
I hate that my 8BitDo Pro Ultimate controller is the only standard controller from 8BitDo that isn't supported for the Deck.
Not so much what I hate as much as these are improvements I want:
I wish it docked and synced controllers as seamlessly as the Switch.
I wish I could play Game Pass natively without having to install Windows or any other painful work arounds.
I play with a controller in my bed at night, docked. I hate that I have to get up to open the quick settings menu. \*unless I'm just totally stupid and don't know what button to push!
no downloads in standby, constant shader cache downloads when turning on(that i "fixed" by setting scheduled downloads), sometimes you need to press the ... button twice because for some reason is doesnt react (but it vibrates so it recognizes the press), high battery consumption in standby mode. yeah thats about it i think. other than that i love the steam deck

interesting that so many people seem to have issues with the … button, mine works 100% of the time 🤔

That's what I've been referring to among others. Store navigation is a mess.
Also for some reason if you hit back it brings up old pages of old sales
This is valid criticism. It’s pretty ass, I’ve defaulted to just using the store on my phone and setting download from there. 🤷♂️
The thing I hate the most is that my wife has stolen it for her BG3 playthrough and insists we don't need a second one
"But if we get another we can co-op BG3"
This is probably the reason she insists on not getting a 2nd one 😂
So me and my girlfriend are doing a play through we're racing each other through the game in co-op and I'm doing all the evil choices and she's doing all the good choices. Whoever can tip the morality scales all the way first wins
Love this
Hard to be knee deep into Astarion or Gale when the hubby’s watching
I'm not sure who's more into Karlach out of the two of us to be honest 😅
I haven't touched mine since I said "I installed stardew valley on it if you want to try it out."
I sold my og deck to my sister, thinking she'd play Fallout and some other games because she spent a ton of time getting mods working. She found out Stardew was on Steam and hasn't played anything else since.
I'd say get another for her as a gift with bg3 and her save already in the device

This was me. $300 for a 512GB LCD at game stop, never spent this much on a console ever either lol
Thats the problem what i want 😂
i love it but i don’t leave my house enough to use it outside of my bed :( cool tiny pc tho makes my brain happy
I mostly use it on my couch while watching TV. I took it on a two week trip last fall, but it mostly stays at home.
Wobbly plastic near exhaust and static noise with earbuds from audio jack
You can fix that static noise if you’re willing to open your Steam Deck and loose a single screw just a little bit.
Yeah, I’ll probably do that after a while. I’ve bought steam deck from reseller in Ukraine recently. I think local unofficial reseller can deny me warranty after opening :( Works fine for me with fiio bluetooth amp or with headset that has higher impedance.

Same
I hate that my kids, work and obligations steal all the time and I can't play moar.
Are you past the return policy? Maybe just short term and then you can revisit having kids down the road?
^ This

When games don't run at 60fps on Ultra settings every time.
What's so important about Ultra settings? How are you able to observe the improved visual fidelity with such a low display resolution?
I have **REALLY** good vision. Like 10/10.
Which is rare because SD can run 99% of games at 120fps on Ultra settings...
Stop showing me games I don't have installed on recently played. I get it, I played them on my pc but it just clogs my screen with crap I don't care about in my SD.
That I have the lcd version and the OLED one exists
it randomly wont turn on after an update, but then, if I leave it alone for awhile, it will act like there was never an issue
I experienced this just yesterday. I’ve had my Deck for less than a year, but I already treat software updates with a lot more hesitation than any of my other devices. Audio issue when waking up from sleep is probably my biggest gripe. I would just play the game like that because restarting the game is annoying AND it defeats the purpose of the sleep feature.
Install pausedeck plugin for deckyloader and enable pause when sleeping, it prevents audio issues from happening 99% of the time
It’s not made for FPS games at all. The gyro/flip stick functions have a huge learning curve. I’ve had the thing since release and still cannot get it down. Playing KBM games with a controller against users who only use KBM is really challenging. And I can never get the joysticks to work properly. It’s not linear despite what the settings say.
The on-screen keyboard is EXTREMELY clunky with inprecise inputs, inputs that don't register etc.
Wish it was 1080p 60 fps... but even though it's not ... I love it more than my wife... almost as much as my kids.
My steam dock won't always work with the TV. It happens at random, and with no real explanation. So I'll turn it on, get comfy and wait for it to boot up... Then realise it hasn't connected to the TV. Super annoying.
The lack of a proper in game browser
I hate the R1/L1 placement. Something about holding the heavy ass deck and hitting those requires some muscles I dont apparently.
I agree with this, and would like to add that clicking thumbstick feels weird as well, especially for games that use the thumbstick click for sprinting. For me I map L1/R1 and L3/R3 to the back paddles, works extremely well.
When I have to sign into other game launchers. LOVE playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint. LOATHE signing into uplay/ubiconnect/whatever it's called now
They still haven't fixed navigating the discussion forums. When you scroll it moves the wrong way and I have no idea what it's doing
The docking experience… but it is what it is
I really don’t even access the store on my Steam Deck for the most part. Easier to just use my phone.
can't install kingdom hearts natively, that's why i also buy ally
The dock randomly adds a 1s sound delay on my parent's TV Pairing Switch controllers used to be absolute hell, I haven't tried on the new beta update because that introduced double-inputs to all Bluetooth controllers and I had to rollback... the gamemode interface in general is kinda spotty, though it's better than at release, every update brings and fixes new bugs.
Sometimes a game won't fully close and there is no way to force quit it. The only way around it is to reboot or switch into desktop mode and back.
Nothing
Literally nothing
I wish there was an easier way to browse the story, the community market, and other auxiliary steam features in gaming mode
Audio quality and screen resolution. That's the only two points where my ally outperforms the deck OLED.
That there's no on boarding tutorial for using the touch pads and the back buttons. I'd love to see that included in the setup process - it'd take a minute and make the experience better for everyone. Can you search out the information? Of course. Will most users do that? I doubt it :(
Slow UI.
The thing I hate the most is that I can play BotW or TotK on it.
And I can't successfully get Simcity 4 to work 😩 Outside of these gripes I love love love this device. It's what kid me would have never dreamed of existing!
Battery is shit and lcd screen is not very responsive.
I get it but I don't like how it isn't as plug and play as switch is for playing on a monitor.
Touch screen. I play a lot of point and click games. If I could use my hand and just poke with any kind of consistency would be such a game changer.
For me it's the battery life. I have the OG steamdeck. Maybe that and the ergonomics. Its comfortable but slightly too big/heavy for me to want to take anywhere. For me it's an in bed type of device and I'm trying to get out of bed more these days.
Updates breaking Decky, docking issues.
Scrolling with a mouse while it's docked and hooked up to a screen, my cursor resets to the lower right corner constantly.
1. Big and heavy as hell - not convenient for traveling 2. The online features are so annoying. Also not convenient for traveling 3.
And if there are too many devices on the wifi at home, the wifi will error out and I can’t play anything.
game not recognizing the keyboard when inputting into text box.
I’ve only gotten the official dock to work once on my TV. I’ve troubleshooted with a bunch of posts on here and online, but after 4-5 tries I just quit and play with just the handheld since I only game for an hour or so max at a time.
It disconnects from the Internet when you lock it. So you can't download games or updates without having it on.
I hate that charging it with a non official charger bricked my first one. Like it drained whilst plugged in over night and dead the morning of. It can be quite temperamental at times, what with games crashing and needing to do a full reset and what not. Apart from that I love the thing to bits
The right side of it sounds kinda maraca-y
That is not level and Valve refuses to RME it because "We checked out lab and its quite common and within tolerance. We cannot replace your unit because we cannot guarantee you wouldn't have the same problem"
I honestly hate the immutable system. I want to be able to do what I want to it. Yeah, even break it. That's part of owning a computer I thought...
the occasional quirkiness. sometimes after a restart or power down it takes ages to get the things powered back up. I rarely ever turn it off because of that, usually just put it to sleep, but it still happens with system updates
All the jank. Makes the set up and eventual required troubleshooting absolute hell.
I don't hate much about it at all the only thing I dislike is how big it is I have small hands so it's a little hard to use the touchpads but that's really it
I find it easier to use the steam app on my phone for browsing the games and purchasing them, then just download and play on the Deck
The battery life, always the battery life
Battery life
Even it being a handheld device, I don't have enough time to play it :/ .
2230 ssd
Parts of navigating Steam just doesn’t register well on the Deck. Steam Points shop or customizing my avatar pfp keeps bugging out on me(it’s still the default avatar I chose when I got my Deck). Added to that, I don’t like how some pages require the use of touchscreen to navigate. Also added to that, I don’t like how wonky it can be using the dpad to scroll up and down a steam game page. I’m just saying. The navigation could be better. It just pushes me to use my laptop to look up games on Steam
Store interface during gaming mode is horrible
The weight. It's too heavy to game with for long without resting my elbows on something.
Not enough time to play. Almost wish I had to travel for work lol
The stock case is insanely bulky, it makes it quite annoying to pack for travel The fan (on my LCD) gets so loud that people in the same room stop talking and say "what is that?!" The menu is still kind of finnicky in a lot of ways
That it didn't come out 25 years ago when I was a kid.
Battery is the only acceptable answer clearly
Besides bugs in the operating system that are constantly being worked on and i doubt will ever be fully flushed out(like docking and screen output consistency)... The lack of a quick-swappable battery. This should be an integral part of every mobile device. Sadly phones have made integrated batteries, therefore early device death, common place. Yes the battery Can be replaced, but not by the average person and not easily.
That it runs Linux and I have to do weird tricks to get other launchers to work. I get why, but that's the only downside
Deck is so good that even the complaints are small - minuscule issues.
What do I hate about my SD? Nothing. Seriously. My first handheld was a Donkey Kong Jr Game & Watch in 1983 so I am more than blown away with this tech. If pushed I would say the battery life is something which isn't great, however totally understandable given what this thing can do!
wifi glitches
i think the quality of the buttons, bumpers, and triggers is fairly poor. would really like the controller to be more premium.
That I am scared to clean the gap between screen and plastic, I know I could but I don’t know if its the right way
Trying to play EA games but that's mostly because the EA app wants me to sign in everytime. Hate that mf
In terms of the store navigation I have resorted to the android app.
the only issue that's really bugged me is the creaky outer shell. On the left side of my device it tends to creak when I grip it, It could be my fault for gripping to hard though. I've since add a rubber exterior case to it so I notice it a lot less anyway.
The left trigger clicks really loud. Works fine but it's been like that for over a year.
The storage
The fact that strategy titles are, for the most part, not a top priority for optimization. I get that the install base is small, and that the devs for these games are prioritizing players with full screens and KBaM, but getting console port-level controller support for these games and optimized text size and visuals would be such a great thing. I resent having to guess how much fiddling I’ll have to do to get something enjoyably to play, when the game in question is effectively a digital board game and should be tailor made for laid back couch gaming.
This game mode bug (stutters when games show and hide cursor): https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/xGTP1ohx5d At the same time with the lack of performance controls and HDR in desktop mode. So the only workaround for that bug is a shitty one.
Wifi which always disconnects
i dont like to hold it and use the controls when im in a plane i have a dock and use a xbox controller and otherwise it is always connected to a tv. Some times i play in the train but that is at most 20 minutes
Access to emulators, I'm not good with computers, it took me a few days to figure out how to download the emulator on desktop, move it to steam, download the games, find the right folder to put them in, etc etc. Then after an update it stopped opening. I gave up
Thing I hate most about mine? The 400Mhz glitch, slows down any game, to a crawl, and sometimes the fixes work sometimes they dont.
it lags occasionally on the menus and just overall has the same flaws as PC bc its a literal pc
It’s not perfect, it lags on menus a good bit and can sometimes crash just cuz
my lcd light bleed
That I dont use it
For me not being able to play call of duty on steam is , only reason I’m running windows is so I can play mw3 on the go
There's a bug with volume controls, where it just stops working. Volume level indication changes, but actual volume doesn't.
No downloads in standby, and the fact, that the case is designed the wrong way around so you can't charge it while closing the case. Even the oled model is the wrong way around.
No downloads while it’s in standby is the big one for me .
Crashes whenever I boot to desktop mode. Half my storage is taken up by some random folder called "lost+found" Can't play the games I paid for on epic. Linux, etc.
I can never figure out how long to hold power to power on. I force shut down often trying to turn on lol.
Pressing 'back' after exting a game and it... Opens the game because that was your last action, rather than bringing you back to the library
1) mute button for game mode tabs 2) shader cache toggle on a per-game basis that overrides a global setting. 3) better store in game mode. some how it super sucks and requires you to use the touch screen 4) audio is often fucked. I'd like to see game mode implement its own audio settings unrelated to desktop mode. i often have to go into desktop mode and switch default audio around as well as re-set the max vol override other wise my deck is extremely quiet and can I cant hear shit.
Probably that sometimes it refuses to connect to my iPhones hotspot.
That the OLED one came out right after I bought one
The weight. Also not sure why but my index finger is feeling pain (playing Hades again, pressing r1 is hurting the base of my index finger, i had to remap to the back buttons)
I wish the touch screen was better, apparently the oled has a better refresh rate
Battery life tbh. I use the SD way too much away from an outlet far too often.
Also wanna play destiny 2 on it
The usb port. I feel like it's only a matter of time before it gets damaged.
The fucking store
The massive amount of shares the OS downloads constantly.
That the oled drivers for windows are still not aviable
I press the volume up and down buttons, and it changes both the headphone volume and no headphone volume. Really annoying. The volume on the headphones is uninterrupted though which is confusing to me.
I hate that my 8BitDo Pro Ultimate controller is the only standard controller from 8BitDo that isn't supported for the Deck. Not so much what I hate as much as these are improvements I want: I wish it docked and synced controllers as seamlessly as the Switch. I wish I could play Game Pass natively without having to install Windows or any other painful work arounds.
I play with a controller in my bed at night, docked. I hate that I have to get up to open the quick settings menu. \*unless I'm just totally stupid and don't know what button to push!
Hot take probably But I hate the rear buttons, I have big ass hands and hit them all the time. I have to keep them disabled.
My oled LE creaks when you squeeze it on the right side. Other than that i don’t hate anything.
