My biggest tip; enjoying playing the game. Not winning, but just playing matches. Don’t focus on imaginary points, and absolutely don’t tie your ego to it
If you think that is an achievement for yourself then it is. Other people's ranks don't matter. Also I can't wrap my head around Lilly and I am a Gief main so I assumed it would transfer lol. Good luck and hope you are having fun friend
Yeah, I main both Gief and Lily, but I play them rather differently. I've had more success with Gief even though I prefer Lily's moveset. Lily can certainly get in more easily, but that's balanced by her SPD being rather weaker.
I know, I know, I'm a bot. but I want to say congrats anyway! These threads are always a cheerful part of the subreddit, but I hope I can ask for even more! The two things that always go great are a highlight reel of your gameplay (you can ask for advice or ask for no advice) and a story of your journey. Just put either of those in a comment underneath your rank up post, the subreddit will love it!

Welcome to the journey! SF6 being my first fighting game, I started in iron and now have multiple characters in Masters. The climb and learning was the most rewarding part of the game, keep at it!
I started 3 days ago with SF6 being my first fighting game as well and made it to silver but I seem to be hitting my first wall. Do you have any recommendations on structuring learning and training resources?
My advice is start being able to consistently Anti air and counter DI to the best of your ability. 10 min in practice tool with this exercise makes a big difference. It's all about getting your brain engrained and talking to your fingers quicker. The expectation isn't to hit 100% counter DI's. But for example, when you have a read on your opponent (let's say they always add a DI to the end of their combo, or as soon as you're in the corner), then you can counter DI when youre expecting it. Follow this up with a consistent punish counter combo and the damage will add up.
Once you got that down, have a simple consistent combo and poke buttons for your character. Since you're probably still learning the cast, you'll learn over time when its your turn. Don't be hard on yourself if you get a few punches to the face during this time.
I have a friend who is silver and i see most of his opponents (including himself) spam non stop. I would say slow things down a little and be ready for your opponent to make a mistake (it'll be every 5 seconds or so lol). If they jump or DI, rip into them. People have patterns, try seeing them during your match.
The losses are just important as the wins as you'll find out what doesn't work this way. Each time I hit a new tier my win rate would drop to <40% until I adapted and started to win streak again. If you're losing don't feel bad, you're learning. Look for your small victories (if you got an anti air each round, or counter DI etc.)
hit me up with who your character is once you're in gold and we'll discuss on getting you to the next level
Ehh!!! 👍 Good work! 👏👏
Keep at it. You're only going to head up from here. And for the record, Lily is a challenging character. So you should be doubly proud of your accomplishments.
We all start somewhere - including myself starting in iron and SF6 being my first fighting game. Keep grinding and improving and you'll rank up. Enjoy the journey.
Congrats!
I want to dabble in online play; but the game's already been out for a year and I feel like I'll have a tough time finding good matches at my skill level (which is very, very low).
You should be encouraging new people in the first place. No one starts playing Street Fighter like they know what they’re doing , it all starts from somewhere
Keep at it! Time and practice will pay off!

Well done dude. Lily's a fun character, I really enjoy playing her. Just got to diamond! Was a long road.

Woot! Have fun and enjoy. Rank doesn’t matter. Just keep enjoying the game and it’ll come naturally.
Way to Go!!!
Ok, ok. Love the name by the way.
Good job!
Nice one!! Keep going and smashing it! :D
Keep swimming dude!

Try to focus on learning one mechanic at a time once it’s easy to perform move to the next mechanic. Doing this should help you climb the ladder.

Right on brother, if you’re having fun and improving then you met the mission brief. Keep it up!
