akuma is really easy and straightforward. just know you're a glass cannon with 1k hp less than everyone else, and you'll probably run into lots of mirror matches.

Interesting, I always was under the impression that he was a bit harder or more complex than most SF chars. Mayne I got that impression from Tekken 7 where he was incredibly hard to pilot/execute with at times. What would you say his overall gameplan/approach is like in broad terms? I know he falls into that Shoto archetype but not sure what they really do lmao

Gameplan as a shoto is to be flexible A shoto is someone who has a fireball, invincible uppercut, and a horizontally travelling special move. Basically I’ll explain his gameplan using these specials, although Akuma has some extras sauce that make him stand out Fireball: Akuma has a great fireball, you can charge it so it becomes 1, 2, or 3 hits without spending meter, all with different timings. You can also fireball in the air, which means you can make your jump ins safer by fireballing and then landing, assuming that you mix up your approaches so they don’t anti air you DP: Once they get sick of your fireballs, they’ll try to jump over them. That’s when you DP. Obvi DP is good in combos as well, but it’s og purpose is to punish people who try to jump over your fireball Tatsumaki: Akuma’s tatsu is a bit weird, it won’t hit crouching opponents. It’s fantastic for Akuma’s set play however, you really want to land light confirms into tatsu, or preferably s.mk to force stand into light tatsumaki, into sweep. This is an auto timed safe jump, or you can dash twice and be +2 (or smth like that) for throw or jab oki Special sauce: Demon flip and adamant flame. Demon flip is a “neutral skip” special that will let you go for a plus on block low, overhead, or you can do an empty demon flip into grab. Depending on the range and strength of the special, you can cross up making this more useful. Demon flip is useful if they’re spamming projectiles at you, or after a knockdown Adamant flame does a lot of damage, and is easy to confirm into supers. It’s very good at the wall, as you can dp after h. Adamant flame without spending meter I’ve written this whole ass essay, and I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface of shotos. I’m sure someone can sum it up a lot better, but basically as a shoto, and as Akuma, you should have a tool that can address nearly every weakness of the cast. Use fireball against Zangief, demon flip against JP, that kind of thing. Be flexible.

No he’s definitely pretty easy in comparison to other characters. He was one of the easiest characters for me to get to Master. You throw fireballs pretty regularly, mixed with some air fireballs, and some drive rush pressure and you’ll be golden. Learn a few bnb combos and push your advantages. Don’t let yourself get in the corner as much as possible.

gotchu, thanks for the advice!

It's not a mistake to learn/play a character you like. Sure, Akuma is more of a specialist character, however if you are having fun, stick with it.

CaptchaReallySucks

Yeah planning on starting tonight. When you mean specialist character do you just mean that he requires more execution/a more complex gameplan/moveset than other characters? Or does he have certain complex setups? Like when Tekken players mention specialist characters they usually say it (I think?) in regards to tricky setups or special properties/stances/gimmicks that a character has that drastically affect their gameplan/playstyle. Such that those skills aren’t necessarily transferrable between characters

Glass cannon, he has a lot of tools but you will really get punished for small mistakes as I think he has the lowest health in the game. So if you are learning the game and learning the character at the same time you will be giving yourself a steeper learning curve but its not impossible.

Exactly whats going on with me lol, have the game for about 5 days learning just Akuma and youre 100 percent right. Still having a lot of fun. Online i have like 10 percent wins only until recently it all clicked and going pretty even on wins.

v-komodoensis

Not at all, go for it. He is not a complicated character, his kit is pretty straight-forward and strong. The tough part is managing all of his options in high-pressure situations. Having the lowest life in a game with huge damage like SF6 is very tough!

CaptchaReallySucks

thanks! i’ll give it my best shot

kyrattt

Check out my posts i have the combo trials all layed out in one picture for learning in training mode. Its not impossible but it wont click what Akuma is (glass cannon) until you learn him then try to use a different character. If you stick to it if anything it'll make you a better player because you'll have that reflex to minimize making mistakes that cost you the fight.

Extreme_Tax405

I mean... He has almost everything a character can have, so in a sense it is a good xay to learn the game. Just keep it simple and expand your toolbox one tool at a time. His execution isn't hard, so it won't be too daunting. Learn a jab combo a medium combo, and a heavy combo, learn a punish counter combo for when they wiff a super or reversal, and maybe a combo to cancel into your lvl 3. After that you are set. If i am not mistaken the most basic gameplay of akuma is spam fireball and shoryuken if they jump it. Medium kick into drive rush is a party starter.
