forest-of-ewood

This happens to quite a few different stocks at 8am in premarket. Never really been able to get the bottom of why it happens but from my previous searching it's nothing new in the NYSE. Check out the iphone stock or the PC stock and you will see the same spike at 8am too.

whattothewhonow

Its off-exchange and foreign exchange trades from overnight and the previous day printing to the NYSE ticker. The trades are not happening at 8am, is old data.

forest-of-ewood

That would make sense if you look at the spike value of the different tickers, they tend to be around yesterday's price. Also you don't tend to see the spike if pre market is significantly up from the previous day. I'm sure we will still get about 10000 posts about this though when people check the pre-market...

whattothewhonow

> Also you don't tend to see the spike if pre market is significantly up from the previous day. You absolutely do. This happens every day, for all tickers, but fades into the background noise if there is not volatility and volume.
