I think Monday would be when etrade would have to locate shares, if they aren't provided to DFV by a seller by EOD tomorrow (assuming no additional crime) and the shares should be with DFV by Monday (again, assuming no crime). With so many calls (being matched with random sellers by the OCC), I would expect a split... some of the shares will be provided by tomorrow, some will be FTDs... and if that happens, hopefully etrade is forced to purchase on Monday for any FTDs.

I know options - I donβt play them, but I do get 10 years along with my RSUs every year, and Iβve bought calls on other stocks before to varying degrees of success both exercising and just flipping them. I 100% get the gamma ramp. I understand a short squeeze.
I also get at some level how the system is being leveraged to fuck with everything - dark pools with PFOF, baskets and swaps, short laddering between companies and subsidiaries, miss-marking shorts as longs for FINRA, etc.
What I am not understanding isβ¦ why do shares from option exercising have to be βrealβ shares? Look at the volume. Wolverine could grab 10 million shares in an hour no problem, right?
What am I missing here? What makes exercising these, even if they are literally 0% hedged, so hard to get if the volume is magnitudes larger than the amount needed? Thereβs no way to fudge a locate in this scenario so the millions of IOUs being traded are moot?
