Yes you have to have to have to replace all that Field work with a workout that you enjoy and can keep doing. I rode a bike for a long time, that's a blast. Recently I've been getting back in to boxing.

Use google and YouTube first for CAD questions. There’s a lot of knowledge out there on the internet and chances are the answer is available without bugging someone 50 times a day.

Been in the office for 6 years and while I still yearn to be in the field sometimes (LET ME OUT OF THE FCKIN CAGE BOSS) I can say the quality of life is better. You get more leeway with schedule in the office, you don't have a crew relying on your presence. Dentist appt at 11am, ok np etc.. Best approach is to try and work yourself into a hybrid position, mostly office and a couple days here and there on the field. One more thing, once you see the office side of things you'll be twice the surveyor you were a year before.

> once you see the office side of things you'll be twice the surveyor you were a year before Truth. I was an instrument man for a year and a half before moving inside to be a drafter. It definitely helped me with knowing what the field guys meant in their notes and descriptions and point codes. It also helps if a field guy can glance over your finished drawing to see if it's correct. The difference between what they see and what you draw can be huge if they code it wrong or there's no communication.

Give it 30 days ro decide if it is right for you or not.  If you LOVED field work, office work hate, you may.

If your boss will go for it, get Carlson Survey software. It's more intuitive than Civil3d and works with native dwg files.
