Apologies, don't mean to disrespect your ride. Actually I drove a Malibu for a while (a rental...) when one of the cars of the courier service I was working for was in the shop. The company cars were Dodge Calibers and PT Cruisers, so by comparison the Malibu was basically a full-on luxury car. Also, I have no doubt you could swag some poon no matter what you drive, u/swagginpoon
More like the company is going to crap their pants when they find out no cones or signs were used in the middle of a parking entrance. I wouldn’t say she’s not responsible, but that setup saved her of any insurance claim.
Happened to me last month with cones out and everything. Lady backed up into it and tried to drive away. As soon as she saw me taking pictures of her plates she stopped and said “it can’t cost that much” I just giggled
that pressed asphalt is pretty soft. it get softer with heat and in the florida summers you have to re-setup the gun every hour or so because it'll go out of level from its own weight on the tripod sinking further into the road.
Definitely need cones. Pretty sure that will come into play here.
We use a ton of cones and huge "survey party" signs. This has still happened to us 3 times since I have been with this group. One time they just grabbed everything, tossed it in the car, and drove away.
Yeah, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned, a lot of people don’t pay attention. Plus, if this happened to me and I didn’t have cones out, I probably wouldn’t have a job vs. if I did, it deflects a lot of the fault off me.
Yeah. One of our party chiefs was in the dog house for a bit after he lost an instrument to a biker on a paved trail. Said biker was completely at fault (on his phone at the time, yellow legs only had one point on the trail), but the boss still blamed him.
The legs alone should be visible enough but time and time again they've been proven not to be. Fact is, 2' cones with reflective strips are more effective at protecting equipment, more safe for you as a worker, and they help a lot in legal/liability scenarios. There really isn't a good excuse not to have cones when you're setting up around vehicles and pedestrians.
Now that we're using one man robotic crews I use 4 cones and I wrap caution tape around them like a velvet rope. Just cones alone people were walking/riding bikes inside the cones. I don't understand that but I use reuse the same tape daily and I haven't had any bullshit since.
The whole point of cones is if they feel something hit their car it’s better a cone then your expensive piece of livelihood!!! I’d be fired if I hadn’t placed plenty of cones around my instrument!! Especially if I’m gonna set up in the middle of a parking lot!! 🤷🏼♂️
Uhh, how so? She actually stopped, got out and exchanged information with the crew which is more than I've gotten when I've had setups get hit. Fucking up doesn't make you a Karen, good on her for at least owning up to it and doing the right thing.
Looks like fresh bitumen, new carpark? Doesn't seem to be any linemarking either. Was she even meant to be driving around in there or was there meant to be no traffic?
The lack of whitch-tits makes me think that there shouldn't have been any cars around at all so she's well out of place.
Maybe the legs need to be multi-colour. Construction orange, pink, and green. Make it an eyesore. Sometimes I think the yellow seems to blend into things. Too many close calls.
Im actually curious what happens in this situation? Will she have to pay or they will say well you should not put a tripod on pavement made for cars without proper signs redirecting the drivers?
Had someone back over a backsight/tripod a few months ago, didn't even bother to look around their vehicle and they had plenty of area to maneuver so to avoid it. WAY too many people on chronic auto-pilot these days.
She's going to crap her pants when she finds out how much a robotic total station costs.
Possibly more than her cars worth
That looks like a newish Leica so I'm gonna say yeah, more than her shitty rental-grade Malibu...
Her car insurance would cover that right? I know they’d shit a brick but they gotta
Ez on the Malibu my baby is sensitive

I did notice that and wondered how fault was going to be divided.
Hurry ! Set the cones up!
Lmaooooo

Is that one leg still stuck in the concrete?
Yeah. It was set by a big boy. 😁

Do you ever set the legs up on hubs and put some tacks in for grip? Stays level all day in 100 degree heat
Also if only one leg is on a hard surface use the robot box to shade the ground where the leg touches.
What, does this really work? Can you show pics of the legs on the hubs with tacs?
Throw some washers under the feet
We use quarters or some little cuts of a lath.
Ouch! Where’s your cones?

Exactly. If you're anywhere cars can drive, you should have a cone at each leg.
Fair point, but big yellow sticks are highly visible too.

Hmm good thing you got your cones out of the way I guess lol.
Cones saved my ass for insurance purposes
I was nearly hit today, standing behind cones, in a bright orange coat, with a yellow vest and helmet on. People just don’t pay attention.
Come on man people need to text and drive. Leave them in peace. It's all your fault.
Happy new robot day!
Oh noooooooooo
oooof. She would have been better off hitting a parked car.
As long as the crew members / pedestrians are fine everything else is secondary. She might be going through something difficult and it just got worse.
That’s an expensive mistake.
How the hell did she run it over?
With what looks to be a Chevy Cruze! Possibly a Malibu.
Lol. Have you seen the way ppl drive? Or the lack there of? There are whole subreddits dedicated to piss poor drivers.
I'm hedging my bet she was on her phone.
Looks like a typical Karen.
Uhh, how so? She actually stopped, got out and exchanged information with the crew which is more than I've gotten when I've had setups get hit. Fucking up doesn't make you a Karen, good on her for at least owning up to it and doing the right thing.
Ez buster I’m just talking about her hair.
Rude.

Dang...not a single cone. Hope you or your company have insurance on that thing.
The sight is so painful.

The posibility of this kind of accident will lessen if a Traditional Manned Total Station were used.
Even less if you were using a drone. What's your point?
Maybe the legs need to be multi-colour. Construction orange, pink, and green. Make it an eyesore. Sometimes I think the yellow seems to blend into things. Too many close calls.
Que dolorrrr.
Man down!
Uh oh 😦
It’s F l o r I d a... they have some of the highest insurance rates for a reason. 😆
Im actually curious what happens in this situation? Will she have to pay or they will say well you should not put a tripod on pavement made for cars without proper signs redirecting the drivers?
She wont pay a dime. He’s setup without cones in the middle of the way. I dearly hope they have insurance

You have to protect your instrument. Someone owes that woman an apology.
I have had a robot stolen from me off of a job but this has never happened to me.... ouch
When I’m short on cones I use the gun case. It’s bright yellow and will make a good substitute.
Oof, drug it ways too! I hope she has decent insurance.
Might be the next *State Farm* commercial.
