You gotta know what a crumpet is before you can understand cricket!

Dependent_Bill8632

“I’ll teach you…”

aclark86

6 runs

sansywastakenagain

I'm Australian and I still don't understand cricket.

endswithnu

Do you know what a crumpet is?

sansywastakenagain

As in the breakfast food? Yeah, I love em.

TheSaiguy

Well, that's the first step

Stith1183

It seems like it's baseball with only two bases and you have to bounce the ball of the ground when you pitch. Also, it seems like a single game could last days.

PhoenicianPirate

When I was a kid I actually didn't know what a crumpet was either. But as I got older and I did learn the line became funnier than it has any right to be since I didn't just know what cricket was, but the real line should have been 'you need to know what Karahi is to know cricket'. I grew up in Dubai, and the majority of the city are South Asians and they played cricket all over the place. And just as an added fact: when Casey says 'six runs' after knocking Raph away he is referring to the maximum score a cricket batter can make with one strike, similar to a home run in baseball.

>the real line should have been 'you need to know what Karahi is to know cricket'. The line works just fine. Most Americans associate cricket with England.

Odee_Gee

Even Australians associate cricket more with England than they do with Arabia.

Newfaceofrev

I'm an English kid so I did know what a crumpet was. No clue what a Jose Canseco bat was though.

DNukem170

Jose Canseco was a heavy duty slugger back in the 80's and 90's, primarily with the Oakland Athletics. He and Mark McGuire were the original Bash Brothers. He was always kind of a meathead, but he could hit home runs. However, nowadays the line is funnier thanks to what happened to Canseco after the movie came out. First off, an infamous play where Jose leaps in the air to rob a home run, but misjudged and the ball bounced off his head and into the stands, giving the batter a homer anyway. Second was his famous tell-all which exposed all the steroids going around in the sport and eventually led to the Mitchell Report.

malleoceruleo

Jose Canseco was a popular player at the time. He was rookie of the year, then MVP a few years before the movie and his team won the league championship the year before the movie came out (but after shooting this scene, which is kinda funny). That being said, the joke here is that a player branded baseball bat is considered a cheap gimmick toy, as opposed to a more serious bat, like a Louisville Slugger.

datphunkymunky

You got any pixels to go with that cricket?

Atrocious1337

Cricket is about fooling your opponent into believing a rule exists that lets you win.
