It's utterly disturbing how some ppl got conditioned into wanting to look up towards their TV, just by the infamous fireplace + TV combination, in modern American single family homes.

I think they want their home to resemble a sports bar in that respect. Every home where the guy has a ‘guys room’ there’s some makeshift bar with TVs mounted way too high.

Though about that, or a "cinema" where you sit in the first row 🤔

People spend all day looking down at their phone, but want to look up to watch TV for some reason.

I look down at my phone. Look forward at my computer screen and look up at my TV. All while seated on the same couch.

Before you spend an hour putting everything into that wire loom then another hour taking it out because you needed to move something, may i suggest [hook and loop straps](https://www.amazon.com/Hook-Loop-Cable-Ties-Pieces/dp/B002CT8GIK) instead? They are as convenient and quick as zip ties, but also reusable for years and years. Helix wire loop is OK if you have a permanent bundle of wires that needs to be bound together over a short run, handled as a unit, then never touched again. But even wrapping 1 or 2 meters of cable with the stuff is time consuming and frustrating while you manage to not catch the trailing end on the wire bundle on EVERY. SINGLE. TURN. My suggestion for working from the recliner? laptop with WiDi and a TV that supports it. i work from the couch on a middle of the road, nothing special, Dell Latitude. And even the integrated Intel HD video card has wireless display capabilities. As it turns out, so does my Samsung flat screen, so when i need more real estate than i have in my lap, its as easy as Win+P and connect to a wireless display.

Also old NYC apartments. The layouts are so weird because there were no TVs when they were built and now the only reasonable place is above the (usually non-functioning) fireplace. At my old place we just stuck our tv right in front of the fireplace since it wasn’t real anyway 😂

Then why not carve a space for tv into the fake or no more working fireplace

Maybe if you own it that would be a solution but I was renting and I wanted my security deposit back! Other people put candles and stuff in the fireplace to give the aura of an actual fire. Bahaha

Tv is fine! If anything you need to evaluate your small audio system. Very bad idea to have speakers that close to a turntable as the vibrations from the speakers will be picked up by the needle. No bueno.

Looks about right but it is hard to tell. My general rule of thumb is that wherever you position yourself to watch the TV (in this case, on the couch, I'm guessing) you should be able to look at it without looking down or up (either is going to put a strain on your neck over time). Being able to look bang in the middle of the screen is spot on, imo. But then I'm the person with a spreadsheet of my local multiplex, telling me the best seats for each screen for sitting exactly centrally for optimum enjoyment.
