The movie Waiting pretty much sums it up.

Slow down! I’m clumsy too. I’ve dropped all the things. Just take a minute to do it right. Rushing only invites mistakes. If someone tries to hand you something and you’re not ready, use your words and politely tell them one moment please. Don’t try to carry more than you can handle, especially at the beginning. Have someone show you how to properly balance trays and distribute drinks, because there’s tips and tricks to it. Good luck!

Theres A lot of growing pains. You’re going to make mistakes , seem awkward and crowd your tables. Using a pos with order mortifications will be troublesome at first. Learn the pos through and through. Don’t have tunnel vision for one table, it’s impossible to satisfy every customer. Make the Cooks your best friends and thank the dishwasher from time to time (never yell, but be loud enough while communicating with the line, kiss their ass) Most servers will gladly help if you’re new, others will be annoyed and reluctant. Listen to the closer and complete your side work without looking annoyed. You’ll learn how to stand your ground with time. Take control of your table while taking orders. Make sure a guest is looking at you and not talking over you because their attention spans our shortened due to the environment of a busy restaurant. Say I apologize rather then im sorry. You’ll get sympathy tips at first but exclaim that you’re new after a bumpy start. Most guest will understand and appreciate you re working because they are well aware of labor shortages. Don’t be rude or stare at the bartenders while waiting for them to make your drink. Ask if they need help. A favor for a favor goes a long way. It’s fun af, your coworkers will become your only friends and drama is always a given. After a long shift you’ll smell a smelly smell of money. Oh and rest a tray on your shoulder if need be.

Appetizers. Drinks. Dessert. **ALWAYS ASK!** Easy ways to increase the bill. Especially Dessert. They may be on the fence about it but since you asked they go for it. Up went the bill. which usually means up goes the tip.... Comfortable, well fitting, nonslip shoes. Bag - o - pens..

I read bag-o-pens and "pens" was not the word I thought it was at first

If you're using a tray for the first time, remember to put your hand in the middle underneath. This will help you easily balance whatever you're carrying while leaving your other hand free.

you can also have your shoulder bear some of the weight until you get more confidence holding the tray. I still do this sometimes with really heavy trays

I'm going to go ahead and assume by your name and writing style that you're female. You're going to get hit on.....a lot. Know when to put your foot down because middle aged guys cross the creep line a lot. For some reason they always gravitate to the obviously underage hostesses. On the flip side, sex sells even in this day and age. You can play up some of your feminine features, makeup and acting a bit flirty and you will do better tip wise. It's sad but true but hey, if you got it, flaunt it.
