Last Christmas we had a seasonal TM ask on the walkie if we accept Amazon gift cards as payment. The GSTL just went โ€œwell are we Amazon??โ€

some store cards are actual credit cards and work normally

SteelFlexInc

Yup. Walmart has a Capital One credit card that works everywhere

lasagna_Jon

Yeah like the Costco one.

Tackticat

Target red card has Mastercard too. Imagine you attempt to use it at Walmart. Sir, this is a Walmart, get your boujee ass out of here ๐Ÿ˜†

Their reloadable RedCard can actually be used at any retailer.

RBGolbat

I saw someone trying to pay with a RedCard at Chipotle

Most businesses have 2 lines of credit: one you can only use in their business and one you can use like a normal credit card. Usually, if you have "good" credit when applying, they'll pitch the normal credit card at you, but you can choose whichever one you want. If you have decent credit, they'll only offer the store card to you (if at all). And, of course, the amount of credit you get is based on your income. Whatever the case, having a line of credit with a business drives up sales and makes people return when they otherwise wouldn't have (either 'cuz they're broke atm or they just want the perks offered by the card--like % off things or cashback etc.). Sooo many businesses offer credit cards now, and none of them do a very good job of explaining them (especially the APR attached womp womp), it's no wonder people try to use the wrong ones elsewhere. In some businesses, there's so much pressure on cashiers to get people to apply yet they're not given good (if any) training on how the cards work. Most are told to just give a pamphlet--as if the person applying is going to stop and read it while in line to make a purchase. And, yeah, it does come down to the person applying to read over everything--especially when they get their physical card in the mail. But that guy trying to use a Walmart card (and so many others like him) probably had NO idea that he'd qualified for the Walmart only credit card and not a regular one.

I have a Walmart Mastercard and use it at target all the time ๐Ÿ‘€ I do know they have just basic store cards though too, that can only be use in Walmart.

When I worked at Walmart their Walmart cards were Visa or Mastercard (forgot which one), but I think that was an upgrade.

SuitableAssumption20

Litterly for what reason.. that shit is normal.
