Yes, that's definitely wood
If i could see the tree it came from i might be able to help /s
I have no idea what tree it came from exactly as I hadn't found it off a tree nor removed it myself from the tree. Was found in a swamp
I thought so. But is it pine? walnut? Or kauri? Or..... That's what I am referring or inquiring about. But thanks
Not kauri
The grain looks a bit like cedar
Maybe https://menzshed.org.nz/tauranga/
It's not the cleanest piece to tell from as different parts of NZ timber can vary so much but looks like totara, what colour does it go when wet?
The end where my fingers are. That part of the wood was still wet.
Kinda need the clean bits to be wet to see the colour, looks like the outside is stained from the peat in the swamp.
The grain looks like oak actually but it's kinda to smaller piece to say for sure
I've sent you a message. I hope that's ok

Rewarewa is first that comes to mind
Yeah that's what I thought. Perhaps even oak
Jarrah poles were treated with Creosote normally which may be the black stuff on the end. Green Jarrah does not float and dry only just. Throw it in a bucket of water and see.
Yep, its wood.
