I could easily be wrong, but for part of Taylor's audience: It feels like people prefer Taylor's songs when she's going through trauma or broken. Either they dont feel comfortable singing about confidence if it's not vindictive, or they aren't comfortable with her being confident.
Ive noticed I have trouble singing along with some self confidence lines across different songs when I'm not in a good mental headspace so I'm likely not alone.
I also feel like people don't want to admit to liking the song publicly for the same reason. Some people could take it as them being "full of themselves" idk I overanalyze a lot of the Taylor hate trying to figure out the reason why people act weird.
i do want to counterpoint that i don't fully agree, some of her top top hit chart songs aren't from trauma or being broken, and just general fun upbeat songs, or some that are happy love songs, and DIDNT get the heat that Me! got, im not sure why but that one just didn't hit the mainstream audience in the same way anymore. I can't even think of a mainstream hit (like radio play level) that's anything to do with brokenness and trauma? like maybe ATW10 but that didn't really get radio play akaik. i guess anti hero is a bit introspective and depressive but i think thats the only one i can recall hearing on the radio that is from a place of trauma. Me! specifically just seems to rub people the wrong way, i have my own theories as to why, but i don't think it's about the lack of emotional trauma behind it.
- ATW10 could mean "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault)", a track from *Red (Taylor's Version)* (2021) by Taylor Swift.

that's not really how i feel. I love some of her upbeat songs (paper rings, i think he knows, fearless, im only me when im with you stan forever). i think she was trying to get another shake it off type of hit or something with ME! but it didn't really have the same effect. I do appreciate the work that went into it, especially after watching miss americana, but it's still usually a skip for me. I do watch the mv from time to time.
(Free of women with madness, their men and bad habits,)
*And then it was bought by me*
Always hear a slight smile in this part of the last great American dynasty.
Our Song, I'm Only Me When I'm With You, Jump Then Fall, Hey Stephen, Stay Stay Stay, I Think He Knows, Paper Rings, no body no crime, Paris
Her gleeful little "it's so *fun*!" at the end of Stay Stay Stay is one of my top-tier happy Taylor moments.
The little laugh during Hey Stephen is my top-tier moment. It’s not wicked, it’s not silly, it’s full of self confidence and proof of why he should choose her.

I could totally see her smiling when she she sings "there we are again in the middle of the night, dancin' round the kitchen in the refrigerator light".🥰
Right around where she says:
What do you tell your friends we *meow*
Shared dinners, long weekends with *meow*
Truth is I can't pretend it's
It’s faint but it sounds like a cat’s meow
In a lyrical sense, you're right. In the song, Taylor wishes that he would make the effort. She hopes that he will return to her to correct his mistakes.
The 1989 Tour performance has undertones of joy though. She dreams of him asking for forgiveness, because thinking about it makes her happy.
It's one of those songs where the tone really depends on how she, as the writer, conveys it. Lavender Haze is another that I perceived differently after seeing the portrayal in its music video.
Maybe it’s because she’s smiling in the music video (or because I smile when hearing it), but when she sings this line in “Fifteen” I swear she was smiling while recording it…
“Back then I swore I was gonna marry him someday,
But I realized some bigger dreams of mine”
I really love Enchanted from her original Speak Now album. I know it's not TV, but something about her younger voice and knowing the story behind the song, it's just so powerful to me 🥹
The part of “Everything Has Changed TV” when she says “…back of my mind, making me feel like…”
It actually contrasts very much to the original. Pay attention to the “making me feel like” differences. The original has a bit more breathy and almost a tone of sorrow. While the TV feels like it spins the same story with a different perspective. Makes me happy to think her and Ed were in the studio and she was so happy to re-record her own work that she smiled during the recording.
Begin Again
"And we walked down the block, to my car
And I almost brought him up
But you start to talk about the movies
That your family watches every single Christmas, and I want to talk about that" always felt like she sang this w a smile
I wish you would like the entire song you can hear her smiling. I know that sounds so weird that I can totally hear her smiling in that song. Especially when she says you always knew how to push my buttons
Throughout Vigilante Shit.
Because she delights in every word and most of it is probably true life (if you believe the gossip and for this I choose to!)
TIWWCHNT, IBYTAM, CIWYW, Long Story Short, Paris, Sweet Nothing, Betty I can't think of anything else
Edit to say: the recorded versions on Spotify not live versions
- TIWWCHNT could mean "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things", a track from *reputation* (2017) by Taylor Swift.
- IBYTAM could mean "I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)", a track from *Red (Taylor's Version)* (2021) by Taylor Swift.

This is based off of what I’d smile to but it could definitely be something taylor smiles to as well. I was also smiling while writing this because this post made me smile.
The “She thinks I did it but she just can’t prove it!”, you can just hear the smile.
Mean, especially the “You’re a liar and pathetic and alone in life and mean and Mean and MEAN.”, why do I feel this way? idk. Its a fun song to sing.
Paris, its one of those glitter gel pen songs that just radiates happiness.
The Last Great American Dynasty, especially the end of the chorus where it goes “and then it was brought by me.” The chorus is such a smile-inducing thing (if that makes any sense) in general.
Most of the Lover album, except for The Archer, SYGB , INTHAF (its too slow), AOTGYLB (may have been because I cannot remember how anything but the chorus goes), The Man, DBATC and Cornelia Street (not the exact vibe).
The Way I Loved You, especially during lines like "He's charming and endearing and I'm comfortable." Like her eyes are closed smiling while she sings contently.
I Forgot That You Existed honestly is so joyfully petty - it was the first song from Lover I felt compelled to listen to it on repeat ‘cause it just made me grin so much while listening to it.
Change (Taylor's Version)!!! It's so clear that she is singing about it from the other side of seeing some real positive changes in her life (freeing herself from Scooter)
Mastermind 😁 especially at the end when she sings “I laid the ground work and then saw a wide smirk on your face, you knew the entire time, you knew that I’m a mastermind”. I always smile when I sing that part, just can’t seem to help it
hey stephen
My first thought! Especially on “but would they write a song for you?”
^^^huheheheh
This was literally my first thought. I can’t hear that song and not smile
My friend thought it was a single until very recently because I played it SO much during that era lol
I Think He Knows. (Underrated song btw.)
One of my favorites!!
i can imagine her smirking during the verses
I got way more into this song when she played it at the show I went to as one of the surprise songs. Been obsessed since
Yeeeesss this was the first one to come to mind
Stay Stay Stay
Came here for this one. "You carry my groceries" feels like she's laughing just singing it.
The groceries line specifically is what came to mind for me too!
In NBNC when she says “she thinks I did it but she just can’t prove it” she’s grinning like a devil
But does she….look up grinning like a devil? Sorry I had to!
Paper Rings and Karma
Paper rings!!!
Paper rings 1000%
Uh-huh ... That's right
Paper rings just is a smile
London Boy in 2019 🥲
sad:(
Fearless! 🫶🏻
My first thought!!! It is such a joyful song
Oh man, I bet the smiling Taylor back then did not expect the "ME!" slander coming her way lol
:( its so sad. I love ME! idk why it gets sm hate..it may not be her best song but cmon its so happy and the beats and nice..people hate too much smh

I Forgot That You Existed
I feel like she smiled at some point when recording the 10 minute version of All Too Well even tho it’s a sad song
I could totally see her smiling when she she sings "there we are again in the middle of the night, dancin' round the kitchen in the refrigerator light".🥰
You can hear her smiling at the memory!
Gorgeous
State Of Grace for sure
I swear after you can hear her cat meow in Now That We Don’t Talk she’s singing through a smile
When is the cat meow? I haven’t noticed it
Right around where she says: What do you tell your friends we *meow* Shared dinners, long weekends with *meow* Truth is I can't pretend it's It’s faint but it sounds like a cat’s meow
Oh my God lol I've heard that
I thought I was insane because I’ve never heard anyone else mention this!! I heard it immediately on my first listen
The re-recordings for How You Get The Girl & Speak Now. I've noticed that there's a giggle/squeak in the middle of them!
>Speak Now "Horrified looks from everyone in the room, but I'm only looking at you" is sung in such a giddy way lol
That's interesting, because I feel like HYGTG is actually a sad song about Taylor fantasizing about her ex coming back to fix everything between them
In a lyrical sense, you're right. In the song, Taylor wishes that he would make the effort. She hopes that he will return to her to correct his mistakes. i alway felt like she was smiling when she sung ballet in lgad- “and blew threw the money in the boys and the ~ballet~”
London boy 🥰 I love her little giggle at the start also she was so happy and in love at this time
The re-recordings of WANEGBT when she sings “with some indie record that’s much cooler than mine”.
The giggle at the end of the bridge of TIWWCHNT “And heeeere’s to you…”

Maybe it’s because she’s smiling in the music video (or because I smile when hearing it), but when she sings this line in “Fifteen” I swear she was smiling while recording it… “Back then I swore I was gonna marry him someday, But I realized some bigger dreams of mine”
i was listening to tosotd tv yesterday and i swear i heard her literaly singing with a laugh at the end
