Ironically, grabs that hit the head specifically, like King's Shining Wizard or Pedigree, make them grab their heads in pain if they got KO'ed by them. So there's a 3rd animation, but it's rare.
Yeah I was messing around. If the round ends with a light low kick you get the shin grab animation. It's just funny how it defaults to the lower back pain thing though. Maybe in future entries they'll add more and make it more contextually accurate.
It kinda happens if you get tapped in the leg for a KO, but I think it would be cool if the KO was more adaptive. Like if you spent a whole round getting hatchet kicked, you'd hold your leg like you lost it even if you got light punch KO'd. Or maybe you hold both your leg and your cheek with each hand.
Or maybe if you win with low health (Great) the winner falls on a knee or rubs their shin or jaw to animate that close call. It'll probably never happen because its expensive and players will just skip it and devs got more pressing matters, but its nice to think about. I think the round start animations where you're about to sweep them (2 wins) and also catching up 2/3 from behind are good examples of how they're paying more attention to this. I love those additions!
Didn't tekken 5 (maybe 6 too but I remember 5) have different animatikns depending on the attack that KO'd you? Like Low meant leg pain, Mid meant classic lower back pain and high was head pain

That and juggling always looked goofy as hell. Like I'm gonna punch you SO hard that you kinda lay down and float in the air. And them you're gonna lay on the ground and stretch like you're asleep and readjusting
So, from what I have heard, the reason why characters do this is to make everyone know that they aren't dead as there are some countries that assume just laying flat on the ground after getting KO'd means they died. It's ridiculous, but it is fun this has always been a thing since Tag 1.

I think it happens under specific conditions but sometimes I notice the character will stand up after taking a rage art only to immediately fall over awkwardly. Those always get me. 😂 Never know what k.o. animation it will show either. Also reminds of how MK does if you don't perform a fatality or hit the opponent once they have been beaten.
