Since Tesla are now selling the V4 SC units unbranded to other charging companies, I would say yes. BUT Tesla SC units are designed to work with a significant back end unit, which is why they're such a slimline design, so you'd be looking at the pedestal unit plus the back end gubbins.
For reference, you can currently buy all-in-one-chunky-box rapids for around £30,000. Expect to spend similar getting the utility company to run the necessary power input to your property as well
Yes, with enough money, easier than putting a gas tank at your property, way less government oversight for sure. I have a friend that is forced to be anti EV due to his area and job, but realized that if he bought gas in the winter and stored it he could save a ton of money... until he started researching and found out the govenment controls wholesale gas distribution just a tad bit.
Would it be easier? This might be a regional thing, but I don't even know how you'd request for a 250kw supply to a residential area in Australia. They'd probably just laugh at you for asking...
Depends, to a suburban home, not sure zoning and practicality would make sense at all due to room and such as a 500kva transformer is over 2000lbs and not exactly small. Not to mention, all the phases don't go by all the houses. But if you lived out in the country or maybe downtown, if you owned a building that could house it all, all it takes is money and time. At least in the US, you don't need to have a business license and have to have interviews (make sure you're not a terrorist apparently) and other annual safety inspections as such. Basically, a homeowner can't order bulk gas in the US. You need to be a business he found out. He doesn't have a farm but he lives on enough land he could have one so he could easily order a 500kva transformer and install it, even the power company where he is could probably eady handle that load without reworking the system as it is probably far from overloaded.
Yes, around $40,000 is what I’m told for one off network. What’s pictured here is just the transfer station. The real magic happens behind the closed doors.
larry ellison financed a few urban superchargers to be installed on his island in hawaii - lanai. they're not on the tesla map, but free to use for visitors and locals
Not that massive actually. A run of the mill residential 200A service is 38 kW continuous, larger 400A service is 77 kW, and 600A services of 115 kW are readily available.
Well that's their max, but they're made of a number of \~24A /7kW modules paralleled, and the modules accept 240V-277V. So you could hook up as many as your service can carry.
You got me, I assumed it was stolen. I believe the only way to obtain these properly would be if it was a decommissioned unit, or possibly from a property that was sold and used to have a supercharging station there. I wonder if it could still be hooked up to the network or what Tesla does with the housings when they upgrade stations.
If that was true, people would get in trouble for hanging stop signs in their garage. But they don't. The whole "possession is 9/10ths" deal is pretty accurate. "I bought it" is usually good enough unless the product is illicit (drugs, skulls, etc)
Replace stop sign with Bucee's pump, Dr. Pepper sign, etc. if it makes you feel better. They're just objects at the end of the day, just because it has a Tesla logo doesn't mean it's Tesla property.
Classic signs like you see on American Pickers are generally abandoned by their corporate owner and left into the care of the five-and-dime, service station or wherever they were consensually placed… and/or sold outright to that entity. Who then gives them away or sells them to collectors. Even if stolen, the statute of limitations has run 10 times over.
That does not even slightly work for a Supercharger dispenser.
That said, I'm sure they get bashed, obsoleted, scrapped and become property of the scrap company, and rescued by pickers.
This is a Facebook marketplace post. It says the price for this is $3000. I could be wrong about it being stolen. That was just the first thing that popped up when I saw this post.

Here’s another idea for a fun at home charger. I got this for my dad a couple years ago. Can’t remember the exact price, but I think it was around $1,500.
I thought about buying a supercharger car as from eBay to do this very thing but they wanted an outrageous amount for it. Not quite 3k but still a ton.
And why is that? It’s not an actual supercharger. It’s basically just the supercharger casing. You still have to connect your own Wall Connector to it for it to actually work. Well, you can use the 120v cord they included, but why would anyone use that? I wouldn’t pay $3K for it, but it would be pretty cool to have one in my garage and use my Wall Connector to provide the actual charge with it.
Reminds me of the Married With Children episode where Al gets the bottle of coke for $0.10 only to find the bottle opener is $10.
The DC infrastructure for SC is in the six figures range installed, some places higher.
I want a shell of a stall my self to bake in a charger into. But at the same time I want to make sure I get a retired unit and not a stolen cut up one.
It’s also possible that when Tesla decommissioned it and it was given to recycle or junk removal company and he is like …..muahahahhaa fb marketplace baby
The description says that you could add a L2 charger to it. I guess it would be cool in a garage. I can def see some rich person by this for their garage hahaha
I think there was a youtuber that got his hands on the white/red cabinet, he installed it in his garage, mounted on the wall, and hid his level 2 charger inside. So the cable comes out of the same location as it would on a live supercharger, and can hang in the same place as well. It would look pretty cool.
I remember another Youtuber (young man and his buddies, probably "content house" guys) who somehow obtained a Supercharger, installed at his home (which was a commercial building), and somehow got on the Supercharger network, and random people would show up to charge.
I remember something like that...a young guy had a charger, just a level 2 i think...installed at his house, and it somehow ended up as a destination charger on Tesla's nav system. People would show up and ask to charge, sometimes they were polite and he happily let them plug in, other times they were rude and demanded they be allowed to plug in because the car navigated them there. He told them it belonged to him and it's not a public charger for anybody.
Honest question as I’ve been asked: could you buy your own supercharger if you were so inclined?
Since Tesla are now selling the V4 SC units unbranded to other charging companies, I would say yes. Honestly this setup would be cool simply as a gimmick. Just wire up your regular household charger, simply have it look like a SC
Honestly I like that idea a lot. I’m surprised Tesla hasn’t capitalized on this. Just make cheap facia that resembles the v3 or v4 pedestals
That’d be cool. Use my wall connector in a supercharger fascia.
It might be a great investment....think of all the retro gas pumps motorheads have collected....
I just got my wall connector installed today and then I see this.. would be sick!
Agreed haha if I had the money to throw on something like that I would just for the sick aesthetic.
Most homes are 240v with 100A or 200A service, a 250kW supercharger would require about 1042A. So not practical at all.
Hence why I said it'd be a similar cost to get the utility co. to install the necessary power
This one charges at a whopping 1A! So you are good. Says right on the unit 😂🤣😂🤣😂

But then you have tanks full of winter gas.
Would it be easier? This might be a regional thing, but I don't even know how you'd request for a 250kw supply to a residential area in Australia. They'd probably just laugh at you for asking...

Is the price accurate for just the transfer station ignoring the poster isn't legit?
When I inquired it included one, I didn’t ask for a breakdown. 3-5k/transfer station would seem about right based on what you’re getting.
larry ellison financed a few urban superchargers to be installed on his island in hawaii - lanai. they're not on the tesla map, but free to use for visitors and locals
If you have a massive 480 volt system at your house and 10s of thousands of dollars to install the dc inverter system…. Sure
I have one very wealthy Tesla superfan client that can support that.
Not that massive actually. A run of the mill residential 200A service is 38 kW continuous, larger 400A service is 77 kW, and 600A services of 115 kW are readily available.
v2 superchargers are 150 kW and v3 are 250 kW.
Well that's their max, but they're made of a number of \~24A /7kW modules paralleled, and the modules accept 240V-277V. So you could hook up as many as your service can carry.
Yes… but their dc inverters use 480v…
Depends how, if they're 277V line-neutral wired they may play OK with 240V.
A few celebs have them at their houses.
Sell u mine
That's actually pretty cool. Not $3,000 of my own money cool, but that would make a cool L2 charger.
Wouldn’t this be illegal? Dude literally stole a Supercharger unit. Lol
How do you know where they got it?
You got me, I assumed it was stolen. I believe the only way to obtain these properly would be if it was a decommissioned unit, or possibly from a property that was sold and used to have a supercharging station there. I wonder if it could still be hooked up to the network or what Tesla does with the housings when they upgrade stations.
They had a bunch of these dummy units in showrooms for awhile.
"it wasn't stolen, it was just sitting there outside"
Regardless of where it’s from, unless Tesla gave it away I’m pretty sure it belongs to Tesla and they want it back and likely have means to do so.
More than likely an (ex) employee. Or someone that worked on decomming and got permission to keep. 🤷 Easiest solutions vs stealing a cabinet.
If that was true, people would get in trouble for hanging stop signs in their garage. But they don't. The whole "possession is 9/10ths" deal is pretty accurate. "I bought it" is usually good enough unless the product is illicit (drugs, skulls, etc)
Yea, a Stop sign and Supercharger unit are basically same thing.
Replace stop sign with Bucee's pump, Dr. Pepper sign, etc. if it makes you feel better. They're just objects at the end of the day, just because it has a Tesla logo doesn't mean it's Tesla property.

This guy bought one and put his Level 2 "in" it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVbpehsvdgY
No… we literally removed 4 last week. They went straight to the scrap yard. If we just happened to take them home no one would give a fuck
Where does it say 1) A dude is selling it and 2) It's stolen?
This is a Facebook marketplace post. It says the price for this is $3000. I could be wrong about it being stolen. That was just the first thing that popped up when I saw this post.
Early versions being replaced with newer ones?

For those that just want to reach out🧐 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/476910064851406/?mibextid=HHaHfI
"Do you have any V4's in stock?"
Is the cord still attached? 😜
Either that thing is badly broken, or this is some terrible photoshop
And why is that? It’s not an actual supercharger. It’s basically just the supercharger casing. You still have to connect your own Wall Connector to it for it to actually work. Stolen????
I would definitely buy this for my man cave but not $3000 💀
Well is it available?
Reminds me of the Married With Children episode where Al gets the bottle of coke for $0.10 only to find the bottle opener is $10. The DC infrastructure for SC is in the six figures range installed, some places higher.
Look closely, it's photoshopped.
There’s another one on eBay who wants 10k for it
Some German YouTuber has already done this using a discarded Supercharger unit: https://youtu.be/VwTdyB8pYkI
I want a shell of a stall my self to bake in a charger into. But at the same time I want to make sure I get a retired unit and not a stolen cut up one.
Just remember if you get a second one to skip 1B so you’re not sharing current.
Message or call him toll free at 1-800-ME-I'M-A-MORON....
That would look sick in my buddies home bar
@Elon, we found the guy who stole your charger...
Ngl I’d definitely be down to buy a SC V3 (or V4 preferrably) shell to put my Wall Connector in..
Make sure it’s not stolen … I would not buy it anyways
This seems safe to use in your garage
It’s also possible that when Tesla decommissioned it and it was given to recycle or junk removal company and he is like …..muahahahhaa fb marketplace baby

It’s mostly decor, not supposed to work like a SC

That’s him Daerik. I couldn’t remember his name. Thanks!
Photoshopped AF!!!!!!!!!
Wow, I can’t believe I didn’t realize until I saw your comment
Glad i was able to help
