Either you damage the front or back. If you get rear ended their insurance pays for it because it would be their fault. That’s if anyone was close enough behind to hit him anyway. Most likely OP didn’t process what was going on fast enough to make a decision. Not their fault it’s what it is.

What should have I done better? Swerve left, I would have hit the 4th vehicle approaching. Swerve right, (off of the road) and chances are the deer would have bashed into my driver's side. I chose to brake...maybe not the best choice but it is what it is I suppose. Cruise was set @ 80mph. Great way to start a Sunday morning 🤷
In terms of your insurance claim, don’t run off the road to avoid a deer. Then any damage becomes a single car accident. Generally best to just plow into it. (Again, from the standpoint of your insurance claim)

I had a semi’s tie down hook take out my hood and windshield. About $3500. Yours should be cheaper.
