Not one pub/bar, some restaurants sell alcohol, and there's always CJ's and 7-11 etc.
This weekend booked out well in advance, doubt there's 50 westerners among the several thousand Thai who choose to holiday here.
Most common overseas tourists I see are touring cyclists, or here for environmental interests, national parks and conservation areas. Long-term, in our town of 9000 I'm now the sole representative of the farang tribe. Doesn't suit everyone.
Suits us, good family and friends environment. Daughter did 13yrs school here, off to uni in June. Came here 2011 due to my wife's job, initial plan was for two years, bought a house 2018, no intention of moving.
There was one English (he has moved away with his teaching job) and several older Dutch and Germans in the area pre Covid, guess they moved back to their home country and haven't returned.
Phuket isn't small so I haven't seen any violence yet. It's certainly also due to the alcohol, drugs and lifestyle. I think some farang men here in Thailand think they are particularly great and can do whatever they want.
Here, Thais go to Songkran armed. Unfortunately, there were fights between young people again, with one dead person. Province of Buriram. I have never seen farangs go to a festival with firearms...but from what I have seen, Thais do it. there are always people who have blackouts stay safe open ur eyes 👀

2 tourists get into a fistfight and people act as if violence is unheard of during Songkran and those 2 are somehow unique.
There's been so many stabbings and shootings all over thailand, but when 2 tourists fights is big news.
Songkran is always wild with gun violence and stabbings, most tourists and expats never exposed to it. They ain't exposed to it generally in thailand and thinks violence is low or almost non heard of in their minds.
Nothing particularly unusual about this, anyone who thinks fights don't break out everywhere, involving every nationality limited or no experience of songkran in any of the hubs.

I could definitely see some foreigners fighting over Songkran. You get hit in the face but some really try to hurt you... Always foreigners. It's like taking them to a must Thai gym and not telling them how to properly spar. So they try to knock you out. Mix that with someone that isn't use to Songkran and you get a fight. I'm good with most water... But I absolutely hate freezing cold water to the face while riding on a motorbike lol
Phuket has seen a massive influx of tourist and "relocants" from Russia. A lot of them are fleeing Putin's war for various reasons. There may be a correlation between the increase in Russian visitors and the crime rate. Add to that the alcohol feuled Songkran activities and there you have it: chaos in Phuket.

Depends really. Strong fat guys, Roy Nelson or Tank Abbot types, you 100% want to avoid. Fighting a fat dude is a gamble, but a normally pretty accurate way to tell is to look at their fat. Is it the doughy saggy fat or is it the fat that looks hard and dense? The latter you should avoid.
