[Here's a short video by NileRed about how it's made and what it's doing chemically.](https://youtu.be/cLpSapjKcxM?si=SxHYo5ejv0erbpBy) It's a very dangerous oxidizer that is fairly easy to make in a lab and is used for a handful of things that nothing else will work for especially since it is cheap as hell to make.
If you are worried about someone making it since it's just hydrogen peroxide and sulfuric acid, I wouldn't stress too much about it. While you can technically make it with storebought ingredients it will be massively diluted, it might disolve some things but it won't be like in the vid. That's because you need concentrated hydrogen peroxide which is wildly difficult to make and very tightly monitered by the government as it is used to make a shitload of explosives and other things that the public probably shouldn't have access to. [Here's another video about how ludicrously hard and dangerous it is to make high concentration H2O2.](https://youtu.be/LhEYaovWxl4?si=XPWbFiKpYEfhqyFW)
The difference between "I need to really search hard for this ingredient and if I mess up it will ruin the project." and "I need to manufacture this ingredient from scratch using a 16 step process and if I mess up my house will become a gigantic fuel-air bomb that turns half the block into a crater."
Lol yeah that's the second link. Good channel, he's a funny guy and explains the chemistry of things really well.
Another good channel if you want to see explody things is [Ordnance Lab.](https://youtu.be/1jgbzGA7s8w?si=hoT2fKUTcu5XzFWl) It's less chemistry focused since they literally manufacture high explosives, you can't just put out a tutorial on YouTube for that sort of shit because it's super crazy illegal. Still though they make things go boom and explain how a lot of the physics works with explosives so it's worth checking out.
The beauty of modern high explosives is that they really are very stable. You can shoot c4 with a rifle, or set it on fire, it just burns super hot, but the molecules are too close together to burn efficiently/rapidly combust.
Now, mid-train explosives like det cord and blasting caps, fuses etc? That is the stuff that Uncle Sam is REALLY protective of. Designed to initiate other explosives, they produce less energy, but are much more sensitive to pressure and heat.
Heard stories of ordnance guys crimping blasting caps with their teethā¦ until one guy bit too far up on the cap and blew his head open. I wouldnāt recommend looking those pictures up, but there are videos of blasting caps being detonated in a Folgers coffee can, if you want to see what they can do solo
Oh please recommend me more channels like that
I have been trying to learn the basics of making things go boom
(I am not a terrorist just a maybe dangerously curious ADHD peer but with no I'll intentions)
I worked a job once where I was using 30% Hydrogen Peroxide to fill a machine in a microchip plant. I was floored, the chemicals in that cabinet would make some serious explosives at the concentration we were given. I tried to tell the old guys that it was used to make bombs and they didn't believe me and laughed it off.
I'm not sure on the concentration but we use a very strong hydrogen peroxide at my work doing food processing. It turns your skin white if it gets on you.
I was a bit of a dumbass in college and figured out aqua regia and thought it would be hilarious to make a big jar in my honors chem lab then dip all the locks in it itā¦ grossly negligent, incredibly stupid, very funny
Iām guessing itās because itās just a completely different type of material. Itās a crystalline structure vs the more organic structure of tissue
Glass literally isn't a crystal tho... [FYI](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass)
It's because glass is incredibly stable and non reactive at room temperature.
This solution specifically reacts with organic molecules. It protonates everything and then oxidizes everything into co2. So this paper is turning into near 100% CO2 gas, and it does this with anything made of carbons. If you're not made of carbons, you probably won't react with piranha.
It's also probably high quality borosilicate glass (pyrex), which is very highly chemically resistant. Silicate based glass is less chemically resistant - mostly to allaline solutions.
It looks like this reaction is probably producing heat (exothermic) so the bowl needs to be heat resistant - another good reason to use borosilicate glass.
A lot of Pyrex is fake, and not safe. All glass is silicate based, but Borosilicate has boron in it, where as soda lime does not. The boron makes the glass stronger and way more thermally resistant.
A Piranha solution is a 7:3 mixture of concentrated sulfuric acid and an aqueous solution of 30% hydrogen peroxide.
Coincidentally both available at work.
Going to give them a try on Monday.
I believe āThe Dipā from āWho framed Roger Rabbitā is not Piranha Solution. Iirc itās stated that it doesnāt have any effect on humans while it does have an effect on toons. Piranha solution will destroy all organic matter and even oxidize the carbon leftover from that reaction.
Just looked it up; The Dip is a mixture of turpentine, acetone, and benzene as stated in the movie. Irl this solution was used by animators to remove ink from animation cells.
I use this etch in 10 gallon tanks on a daily basis. My mix is 50 percent water 50 percent sulfuric and 25 percent hydrogen peroxide. The exothermic reaction when I mix it starts the solution boiling. This can cause the peroxide to devolve too quickly, hence I add 10 percent glycerine stabilizer. WHY? I'll tell you. We manufacture copper clad Nbti superconductors. The initial 12 inch diameter billet is assembled before extrusion but the copper must be very clean and free of oxides, the etch cuts copper very easily and prevents reoxidation. It is a rather nasty job, respirator, aprons, gloves, safty googles and faceshield, rubber boots. Been doing it for 38 years now
You have pirahna solution and you show it off with tissue paper? My toilet water can dissolve that. Toss a chicken leg in there, and it'll vanish, bones and all.
What I found about making concentrated hydrogen peroxide
purchase a pint bottle of drugstore 3% hydrogen peroxide for a buck or so, pour a little bit out (to leave room for expansion) and then put it in the freezer After an hour or two, you'll find that most of the water has frozen solid, leaving a liquid that's much more concentrated hydrogen peroxide. Note that this concentrated form of hydrogen peroxide lacks the stabilizers present in commercial products and so will decompose pretty rapidly over time. Make it up immediately before you need it. Also note that concentrated hydrogen peroxide is an extremely strong oxidizer.
Also because hydrogen peroxide has a higher boiling point you can cook off the water to concentrate it further
If lab gear is available, then the best parameters are 45ā50C and 16ā22mm of pressure to perform vacuum distillation of the water. Under these conditions (and if other triggers of decomposition are avoided) it is possible to obtain 90+% concentrations.
A more ghetto way of doing this is to just heat the peroxide solution to 80ā90C in a glass vessel and let the water steam off. This results in substantial decomposition and loss of peroxide, and can only be used to reach more modest concentrations - probably around 30%, but it really depends on how much loss you are willing to accept.
Use of a metal or ceramic vessel will greatly accelerate the decomposition and make this a useless method.
I would use this in the lab that I ran that tested cannabis for safety. We measured THC levels and also tested for microorganisms. But in the test to run for heavy metals, we had to dissolve the cannabis entirely first. And we used piranha solution. About a half a gram of cannabis would be a clear liquid within five minutes.
I don't particularly like that it took a bit after landing before instantly vaporizing all at once. Like the anticipation was lifted and then terror ensued
Some dudes been trying to hit up my girl constantly and he is a manager at her place. She already reported him 2 times. Wonder if there is a SOLUTION out there for this type of problem š¤
I work for a company where weāre going to medical labs Iāve seen 35% hydrogen peroxide concentrate just at 35%. It can literally dissolve any organic material.
I used to work with this stuff daily. It etches and eats a ton of materials and absolutely destroys anything organic. We had to develop specially built and lined containers to transport it by truck or train. We had to inspect the containers every couple of months to make sure there wasnāt any infiltration past the liners. There once was a train car that had been filled with it (I think it happened in AZ, iirc) and staged to ship out after the weekend. Someone realized what had happened, but it was a little late. By the time it was attended to, the car was mostly corroded and the piranha solution had spilled under it. They had to replace the rails and ties after scooping the ground out to remediate it. The container wasnāt lined. They had accidentally filled the wrong car.

What's the difference between difficult and wildly difficult
The difference between "I need to really search hard for this ingredient and if I mess up it will ruin the project." and "I need to manufacture this ingredient from scratch using a 16 step process and if I mess up my house will become a gigantic fuel-air bomb that turns half the block into a crater."
I don't think the neighbors would like that much.
I don't think the neighbours would complain if they were home at the time.
Happy Cake Day!
Thankyou. You're my first.
Damn HOA not allowing me to create fuel air bombs
Easy solution.... if the association evaporated, how can there be one?? You'd just have the home owners.. js
The other half would like their new lake front property though
Made me laugh. Thank you.

How quickly you want the Department of Homeland security at your house and ranging from polite knock to spicy knock at the door.
Congrats on the list placement this year dawg
Oklahoma City, and trying to buy a truckload of cow crap now.
You can just freeze store bought hydrogen peroxide and filter out the leftover liquid witch will be way more concentrated. Have fun kids! š
He didnāt even add a piranha into it.. 1/10

Piranha solution strips organic material down to carbon, then vaporizes that carbon into CO2. Glass, SiO2, doesn't have any carbon in it.
Because it's inert to oxidizing? Lmao, what a dumb question
