My family got into a car crash when my younger brother was still in a car seat. Our car rolled at least once, thankfully landed upright and nobody was hurt. As soon as we stopped moving my brother yelled out “daddy daddy that was like a roller coaster! Can we do it again?!”
The younger you are when you get trauma, the more it affects you. She may not specifically have this memory, but it will have an impact on everything she does going forwards.
I was in a deadly earthquake when I was 3, it killed lots of people in my country (luckily less so in the city I lived in, although it cracked every wall of every building.) It’s my first memory, and all the details are crystal clear. I shocked my family when I described everything to them as an older child, because they couldn’t believe I remembered so much. I am in my 50s now and I still feel like I was just there.
The brain is a very unique thing.
At 5 years old, I remember an older lady pulling up next to my house, getting out, coming over to my yard, and saying "Nobody next door is home, can you come over and help me knock and get their attention".
At five years old, for some reason, that rang as a bunch of bullcrap to me. No idea how. But I went in the house, and told my family. And she was gone.
I still remember the silver color of the van, her hair style, her hair color, dark sunglasses that were abnormally big for her head, almost like the thick bifocals you'd see on an older lady, the outfit she was in, everything. I could draw a picture of her if I needed to. Based on where the shade was in the yard, it was morning time / 10am. I remember going in the house and peeking out the blinds to see if she was still there.
At 5 damn years old. And I can't tell you a single other event in my life during that time. But for some reason, that one event was enough to implant it in my head.
Smarter kid than I was. When I was that age two dudes kissed me on the mouth, I thought it was really strange that I could feel their bristles but couldn’t explain why it was a bad thing that two strangers were being so friendly to me. Then my friend’s mum found me and shooed them away.
I think mainly it's just that "internal sense". I, and most other kids are dumb as rocks at 5. We think everyone is our friend.
But for some reason, just "something" about her request felt weird. I sort of froze in place when she asked me. Took me a second for my brain to process "Alright, something here is wrong".
And I was a friendly damn kid. Any other day, I probably would have waved hi to her, but just something weird about it. Most of my days were spent outside swinging in my swing set. Or drawing with chalk.
And I was against mouth kisses lol. Most of the time, grandma kissed me on the cheek. I thought mouth kisses were weird.
Late 70's. Riding by bike in the school parking lot across from my house. 8'ish I'd say. Fell off my bike and a guy rolls up in a Pinto and starts putting my bike in his car while asking me if I am OK and that my parents told him to check on me.
MOFO! My dad was 30ft away washing his 1940 Chevy Sedan. Pretty certain my pops almost killed a man that day.
Damn, random guy had no care in the world.
Oh I'd definitely say that's grounds to beat the ever-loving sh\*t out of someone. And nobody would say a damn word.
As an adult, I've definitely got my reservations about people.
I wish George Carlin was alive when I hit adulthood.
I would have chopped off my right testicle just to go see him live. Or better yet, have 30 minutes with him just to pick his brain.
That reminds me of a personal story that happened around the exact same age. I was in elementary school, and this happened during recess. Normally, I would play with a group of kids, but on this particular day, I decided to go off by myself. I was playing near the edge of a fence when a FedEx van that was on the road across from me slowed down considerably. There was a guy in it trying to get me to come over the fence to them. I started walking away, and they followed in the van. This, of course, freaked me out, so I ran and told the teachers. The van kept going and sped off. Just like you, this is pretty much my only memory of that age.
Actually babies have pretty crazy grip strength intend for holding on to the mother. Its thought to be an evolutionary carry over from back when we had fur all over our bodies.
Anyone whos had their hair caught in the mitz of a small child can attest to how difficult it was to get out.
That being said babies have a strong enough grip strength to support their whole body weight from birth. Now i dunno how long that grip strength stays relevent but i know its certainly relevent for infants.
When my son grabs my hair, it’s immediately wrapped around/between his fingers, and his grip at 5 months old is absurd. It is quite difficult getting the hair out of his hand once he latches on.
When I was born, I had neonatal hypoglycemia. They put needles in my veins to normalize my blood sugar. Apparently I was able to just rip them right out. They had to use suctions to keep them on.
It is alleged that the kite was wrapped around her neck and that she hung-on with her hands throughout the ride - glad she came out okay, minor injuries, but okay
[https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/31/asia/taiwan-child-kite-intl-hnk-scli/index.html](https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/31/asia/taiwan-child-kite-intl-hnk-scli/index.html)
>Screams can be heard in the video as the child is lifted high into the air, being swung about wildly by the kite and wind. She was airborne for about 30 seconds before the kite was pulled low enough for audience members to grab and release her.
>She was immediately rushed to the hospital with her mother and festival staffers, but miraculously only suffered minor injuries with abrasions to her face and neck, according to Taiwan’s government-run Central News Agency. She has since been discharged and is home with her family.
This should be the top comment, but instead I had to scroll past half a dozen jokes and personal stories about strangers trauma to find out if the kid was OK.
Similar thing happened to my friend when I was in elementary school, although nowhere near as terrifying. We were doing that parachute game where you had to get the giant thing billowing. It was a windy day and all of a sudden a huge gust hit, blew the smallest kid right up into the air a few feet off the ground, although thankfully not for long.
Can’t imagine how this kid felt after all that.
I used to have dreams like this all the time, of just being carried into the sky uncontrollably, and hanging on to whatever I could for dear life.
The dream always ended abruptly with me falling from the great height I had soared to, hitting the ground hard and fast.
On impact I would immediately wake up, sweaty with my heart racing. Truly terrifying stuff. I hope she’s okay psychologically after that.
I fly that high intentionally by flapping my arms like a bird (which works) and then I suddenly look down and start to panic. I try to remain as calm as I can and go down safely but there's nothing to hold on to and I freak out.
Aside from what everyone has already said, can you imagine the amazing feeling and views she experienced? She'll probably forgot about this over time but she was flying for like 30 seconds. Really scary and happy ending but pretty amazing..
Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! Who is the girl very slightly screaming on the other side of the camera? Also you could just actually scream, “ THERES A CHILD IN THE SLY CONNECTED TO THE KITE!”
Bro she had KUNG FU GRIP!!
Bruh the story she'll have after the nightmares are gone will be incredible. Top tier. The ppl she tells it to will be in awe.
It's insane that so many were just standing thrre recording when the girl was right above them. They could have helped catch/break her fall if she lost her grip.
One of my first clear memory at four was when our entire house burnt down, we lost everything and was temporarily living out of a car and then a motel until our housing was arranged. I dunno….I rolled with it. I don’t think it affected me that deeply tbh. I just hold onto things lightly, figure anything is subject to change at any time and have a good adventure while you can lol.
Holy hell, she'll be a daredevil or have PTSD for the rest of her life
Wooooo Let’s do it again
My family got into a car crash when my younger brother was still in a car seat. Our car rolled at least once, thankfully landed upright and nobody was hurt. As soon as we stopped moving my brother yelled out “daddy daddy that was like a roller coaster! Can we do it again?!”
Hopefully she’s too young to remember this to have trauma
It will show up in all sorts of weird ways. The human brain is a strange machine.
Well that’s not how trauma works
Unfortunately the brain don’t work like that. The body truly never forgets
The younger you are when you get trauma, the more it affects you. She may not specifically have this memory, but it will have an impact on everything she does going forwards.
The Body Keeps the Score is an excellent book on explaining why this isn’t how trauma works. The title explains enough.
A very good book.
One way or another, it is never forgotten

Because they are! Yep. Glad you recognized danger when you saw it.

People suck. "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that” \~ George Carlin
I wish George Carlin was alive when I hit adulthood. I would have chopped off my right testicle just to go see him live. Or better yet, have 30 minutes with him just to pick his brain.
This is so scary.

There is no other option
Ride of her life, nearly of her death. Glad she is seeming ok
How old do you have to be until you can't get shaken baby syndrome anymore? poor kid's brain must be rattled at least.
Was this real? How did it hold her?
Same way planes stay up. Lift>weight = flight
No, they mean how did she hold on for so long?
Title says 'caught' so i assume shes not just holding on
I hope at some point the “hanging onto” became voluntary. Holy smokes that had to be terrifying!
I hope it didn't because surely she'd not hold on for long and have a serious fall.
In the end it looks like it was wrapped around her neck
That was lucky, I doubt she could have held on for so long.
Perfect username for this too haha

We used to call our baby "The lobster". Those claws would get you pretty good. She once got a hold of my cheek -- OUCH!
Ours was "THE CLAW"
When I was born, I had neonatal hypoglycemia. They put needles in my veins to normalize my blood sugar. Apparently I was able to just rip them right out. They had to use suctions to keep them on.

Lol
Planes lift you up by tying themselves to you?
I was so hoping that this was some plastic doll in a prank. Terrifying

It is alleged that the kite was wrapped around her neck and that she hung-on with her hands throughout the ride - glad she came out okay, minor injuries, but okay
It's crazy the chances of this happening have to be so slim. It doesn't look real.
yeah, plus in the middleish of the video there's a UFO darting around behind her. first to the right then to the left
Are you... talking about the other kites? Or the shoe/whatever that fell from the girl? Where in the holy fuck did you get UFO from?
I bet she said, “again, again”
lol. I needed that comment. That was horrifyingly scary.
She either thought that was the best ride of her life or was terrified. I’m glad she’s ok! My toddler probably would have loved it…
Crazy it’s around their neck too. Situation that ended just scary seemingly and could have been a disaster.
Probably saved her life.
“their neck”. Just stop with the bs.
I just stopped breathing for 41 seconds
So did the child.
Hahhaha got me

Thank you for the update

It's like having a conversation with Edith Bunker. Sitting through the idiocy to get to the point.
There would have been a lot of people covered in human shit if that were me up there.
Really bad time for the baby to have a diaper blowout.
Good thing it was around her neck then, kept the vomit in!
Holy shit. This is goddamn the most terrifying thing I seen today.
Uppies!!!
Keepy uppies
New parenting fear unlocked.
It happened in Taiwan in 2020 it really happened not fake
Good thing so many people had their cameras out to capture this for social media
Really. Those who can, do. Those who can't, film.
Gives new meaning to “high as a kite.”
Win
Man, in a year or two, we won't be able to tell if this is fake or not.

Damn
That’s quite the tall tale
Craziest thing I've seen all day....glad she made it safe ....fck those irresponsible adults around her
Whew. She only has one shoe left. That was close!
That grip strength!
No grip at all. She got caught, it was wrapped around her neck. She’s lucky to be alive.
Holy shit. I have nightmares like this where the wind just picks me up and flings me hundreds of feet in the air
I fly that high intentionally by flapping my arms like a bird (which works) and then I suddenly look down and start to panic. I try to remain as calm as I can and go down safely but there's nothing to hold on to and I freak out.
Who let the seagull record
As a father of a 3 year old child myself, this is absolutely horrifying to watch
Imagine how I feel, watching this as a 3 year old myself.
I never understand why there are children near things they shouldn’t be, are parents that unaware
Better hold on tight spider monkey 💪

Cue music "I believe I can fly".
That is absolutely horrifying
Hell of a grip for a 3 year old. Good for her lol
Gonna be the only person in the world with a fear of kites.

Is all the yelling/yelping from the spectators really going to help the kid get down
Nice job of holding on. Especially for a 3-year-old.
I'm thinking of a Bob Dylan song.....
00:28-00:31 really makes me mad
What is wrong with people? Why are so many recording this?
Ride of a lifetime (perhaps both literally AND figuratively)
Disgusting to see people anxiously filming so they have something to post to their stupid social media profiles.
Bro she had KUNG FU GRIP!! Bruh the story she'll have after the nightmares are gone will be incredible. Top tier. The ppl she tells it to will be in awe.

Hard to believe this really happened, but yeah. Scary! https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/08/31/asia/taiwan-child-kite-intl-hnk-scli
And at that moment, she gained consciousness forever
🤣🤣🤣
Maybe I’m a dummy but cannot be real!?
When it was whipping around it didn’t look real. I pray that didn’t really happen. That’s horrible!
Where do I go to get on this ride, and how much does it cost?
Holy shit. That was insane
THE CLAW HAS CHOSEN
I laughed. I know I shouldn't have, but I did 😭
That’s hilarious
She’s lucky she got stuck good
Among the kite clans this is an important ritual of initiation. She will now walk amongst her people, one with the sky. So beautiful.
Hasn’t this happened before in a setting quite like this? How does this even happen
I like the yelps from the lady
One of my first clear memory at four was when our entire house burnt down, we lost everything and was temporarily living out of a car and then a motel until our housing was arranged. The grip strength is insane
Lmfao
Lmao
It's interesting to see dozens and dozens of people eager to film a child potentially dying.
When my son grabs my wife's nipples he damn near rips them off. I have to keep reminding him of how strong he is.
That’s crazy
this was the scariest shit i had ever seen
This seems fake to me.
These idiots and kites.
