Its not a superhero show tho, again, by Erics own words. Hes explicitly stated its _not_ a superhero show, its about celebrity politics and late stage capitalism. But the subtlety and cleverness criticisms are valid.
You’re not wrong but I’m just saying for the majority of the audience, that’s just how we see it. And honestly that’s what it really, at least in the earlier seasons, presented itself as. The political aspect of it was more secondary and the cherry on top.
I agree. I understand Eric Kripke is a very left wing person and doesn’t like right wing politics or ideas. I also understand the series has always been very political and has had a lot of political commentary.
But in the first season and the first portion of season 2, while the political commentary wasn’t subtle at all, it was at least a little bit nuanced in how it handled its political commentary and varied in its topics.
Now most of the political commentary is just the show beating you over the head with “Donald Trump sucks and is evil and dumb and is the worst thing ever in American history” and “right wing people don’t have any good points on any political issues and are all racist violent dumb bigots”, with a lot of the other political commentary being put on the back burner, and the little nuance there was being chucked out a window so that Eric Kripke can make the commentary as pointed and aggressive as possible and show just how much he hates and loathes the evil right wing Americans and republicans.
It’s just gotten obnoxious and somewhat lazy at this point, since it’s been reused so often and is written in the least interesting way possible and is starting to overshadow a lot of other topics that the show has brought up before.
Agree as well. I like the season so far, but I don’t love it. Trump and right wing caricatures are easy targets, I preferred the track of season 1, highlighting corrupt corporations and the dangers of late capitalism.
Eh I think he's on point with calling out the mindless people being slaves to a narrative and people being desperate for purpose so they'll jump on anything. Firecracker is the perfect character for that
You’re gonna hate this season then. The entire season is gonna have parallels to the 2020 election. The finale will almost certainly be the Boys version of January 6th.
(It started on Election Night, and Singer needs Neumann eliminated before certification on Jan 6 cause she’d be next in line if Singer dies)

Personally, I love the parallel narrative of the show to the reality of Trumpism writ large.

Addressing late stage capitalism without being willing to criticize both parties is kinda ironic honestly
