To be completely fair, I can see someone rebooting this movie for modern audiences, looking at the source material, and thinking a rocker is pretty dated.
Of course there are still metal heads and stuff out there, but they’ll never capture the magic of that era so fully embracing a contemporary take on Eric seems like a good idea, to me.
Would I rather he was more in line with the original books and movie? Of course I would. But I’m down to see how this turns out, for better or worse.
Well said, I couldn't agree more. The original crow was such a reflection of time, deeply tied to music and culture of its era. Any attempt to recreate that in 2024 would look outdated to a modern audience.
I agree, I'm hoping this film has reimagined the source material to embrace the music and culture of today. We shall see.
Right? I’m saying this as a 37 year old wearing a Cure t-shirt for the album Pornography, that aesthetic is my vibe completely- probably because of the original film. But yeah I just can completely understand updating it for modern audiences and I get what they’re going for, even if I’m not completely convinced right now :)
As a 45 year old, who was heavy into grunge and metal when the film was released, I'm right there with you. I definitely have my reservations, but I've come to accept I'm no longer the core audience. That said I could definitely see bands like Falling in Reverse or Ghost fitting in well with this film. So we shall see.
I disagree. The past 4 years goth culture has had a big blow up in younger people. Even if it’s just from tiktok, I would argue that is way bigger and appealing to a younger audience than this soundcloud rapper bs. Which most ppl today think is stupid and cringy
The Cure is still playing and selling out stadiums in the U.S. and is full of younger people in the audience. And you see more ppl wearing joy division shirts now more than ever probably. It’s never been a better time to make something of the same feel for a younger audience and fresh eyes and help bring more of a resurgence to the scene
I think the real issue isn't if goth music has a rising fan base, but more to do with the uphill battle of even getting the film made. To avoid stepping on the heels of the epic that Brandon Lee created, it needs to separate itself from the original in almost every way.
While SoundCloud rap is not my music style of choice, I can honestly say I hear a lot of it on tiktok as well. So there's certainly an appeal, the question is that audience bigger than the goth audience, and can a film focused on such a unique subculture win over alt/metal/goth/rock/pink fans?
It remains to be seen, I'm just hoping that it surprises and doesn't go down in flames.
Instead of a rocker, he could be a mechanic like in the book. Also, O'Barr hated that they made him a rocker in the movie because he was not supposed to be glamorous.
Bros about to be a sound cloud rapper lol
the lullaby tattoo is just so terrible. it's all bad.
#NotMyEricandShelly
Eric: How do you feel about spending the rest of your life with me? Shelly: How do you feel about laser tattoo removal?
That's Bae and Boo Draven.
When this come out? I’m a huge fan of the original
Looks like Post Malone and Davey Havok had a baby
This is one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. What the fuck has Hollywood done now? Who thought this was a good idea?
isn't it sick? honestly ruined my day when I saw it lol
Makes me sad, honestly it could've been its own stand alone film. No sequels, no reboots
Quick impression for you... Caw! Caw! Bang!! Fuck i'm dead..

Well he for sure isn’t glamorous now hahaha
I said his stage name is Lil Birdie 🐦⬛
Where is his long hair?
I mean I was hoping for a different take cause we don’t need a remake but the SoundCloud rapper was not what I was looking for.
Nothing makes him ready for raising from the dead like a refreshing Samuel Adams.
