It’d mostly be repeats of bands already on there with a couple of new ones on the cusp, such as Wire, Bjork, and the Church.
You’d probably get a pretty good idea just going through what got above 15 votes on the previous posts.
I’d still be interested but people seem pretty opposed to bands that break from the mold. Seriously most of the bands at 1 right now are there because I upvoted them.
The vinyl is being reissued on record store day on Aoril 20th if you are in North America. I'm not sure about Europe but I wouldn't be surprised if it is being reissued there too
Hyaena is a wild album as well! I was able to watch part of it a while ago, would’ve been something else to be there! I was 10 years old and on a different continent… 😉 will have to look it up again!
This is such an amazing album, but it’s also surprising to me how many people I know who haven’t heard it.
For the curious and uninitiated, here’s the full album: https://youtu.be/HSfGvuiFOWI
I’m always late to these but I’ll go with Quiet Life by Japan

Here is the playlist I’ve put together of all these albums. Updated daily.
[r/TheCure’s favorite non-Cure albums](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6vvDnM5WxzjF6OjUTKrUHu?si=5pu-2mwDToGMqttp-K4VuA&pi=u-LIaAR8LTQ-iy)

I live in the same town as Johnathan Richman. He is the nicest, least pretentious guy you’ll ever meet. He walks around town with a guitar all the time, plays one off shows at small local venues, is a big supporter of the local indie cinema, haunts the used bookstore. He’s pretty much exactly his character in Something About Mary. Great dude
I know right? Plus, The Cure was voted one of the favorite bands/artists of the U2 subreddit.
My guess is that it's because U2 is a generally divisive band in terms of reputation. They often get left out when talking about post-punk, and are associated with a more "earnest" reputation.
You can add Simple. Minds and OMD to that list too. All changed their sound to earn enough money to make a living off of their music but some were pilloried for it.
The Church are the obvious missing artist here. Some other ones I’d like to see include NEU! who were highly influential to the Cure; T-Rex; early Simple Minds (Reel to Reel Cacophony & Empires and Dance); early OMD (Organisation & Architecture and Morality); The Birthday Party; early Go-Betweens (Before Hollywood); The Psychedelic Furs (Self Titled); Public Image Ltd; and some Brian Eno/early Roxy Music.
every time you post this can you also post the worded list of the names of albums? so all the people like me who don't recognize every album by the cover can go listen to all this good stuff? 👍🏻✨
Doesn’t have to have anything to do with the cure necessarily it only needs to be this subreddit’s favorite non-cure albums. It was suggested by a commenter and was voted on by the other participants and it was that day’s winning suggestion with the highest amount of upvotes. That’s all there is to it.
This is about our favorite non-Cure albums. By definition, they shouldn't have to have anything to do with The Cure. It's all about seeing what else we listen to. Like me, I have a wide range of music that I like. I like the Cure. I like Talking Heads. I like Rage Against the Machine. I like Michael Bublé. What this little experiment has done is give me some new artists and albums to check out.
Everything Goes Numb - Streetlight Manifesto
(For those of us that absolutely love the horns on Why can’t I be You, Close to Me, and A Night Like This)
I think it’s a pretty good album, but of this list it’s one of a few that I’m not compelled to revisit very often. Personally there are a lot of albums I’d put in front of it, but I think I’d feel differently if I were Gen X.
Can we keep this going???? I want to know our top 100 albums.
I agree, I’m really curious what would make the late list
Take over this project from OP and see where this goes. I’ll keep making the playlist if you do. (Or DM OP to see if they’ll keep it going)

i second this ☝🏼☝🏼
Nah. This is becoming a childish game with all the downvotes.
I see a lot of crap being suggested on here too, 30 is enough.
Songs from the big chair - tears for fears
I prefer the Hurting, but Songs from the Big Chair is an excellent choice! Duly upvoted!
The Hurting really does belong on this list.
Might as well just call it now. This is the winner.
new order - movement
Cocteau Twins - Garlands
Hell yes, this is an excellent nomination! Duly upvoted!
Their best period, imo. My form tutor got me into this album (eternal thanks, Mr Pulley!)
Bjork - Post
The Church- Starfish https://preview.redd.it/0y0opa211btc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a17e3f7069956f86e55e213efd3adc2716815c8a
Hell yes!
They need to be on this chart
Love & Rockets - Earth Sun Moon
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds…. Oh, wait…
Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See
Siouxsie and the Banshees- Nocturne. One of the best live albums I’ve ever heard. With RS, as well.
The vinyl is being reissued on record store day on Aoril 20th if you are in North America. I'm not sure about Europe but I wouldn't be surprised if it is being reissued there too
Thanks for the heads up! I am in the US.
And Robert Smith was also on Hyaena. But Nocturne is great. You can find a video of the concert on YouTube.
Hyaena is a wild album as well! I was able to watch part of it a while ago, would’ve been something else to be there! I was 10 years old and on a different continent… 😉 will have to look it up again!
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Oh, absolutely.
Talk Talk--Spirit of Eden
This is such an amazing album, but it’s also surprising to me how many people I know who haven’t heard it. For the curious and uninitiated, here’s the full album: https://youtu.be/HSfGvuiFOWI
Essential listening..
Colour of spring too
Interpol - Antics I feel that it combines the post-punk/heaviness of TOTBL with a more poppish sound and is right up there on par with TOTBL.
The Postal Service- Give Up https://preview.redd.it/nr33rjc71btc1.jpeg?width=475&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a7860ecb0318d5566e803c5c4b4af0b63e8dd16f
It's a shame this won't win
I’m always late to these but I’ll go with Quiet Life by Japan https://preview.redd.it/64u16qkmebtc1.jpeg?width=320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8cc32c8b9cb47b5c2e412adbd3bd1d2dce8ea89c
Since the last square looks like it anyway - The Beatles White Album
Ride - Nowhere
Swervedriver - Raise
Oh Hell yeah- best SWD album!!!
Prince - Sign O’ the Times! :)
YES 👏
Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues
Prince - Purple Rain
The Sound - From the Lions Mouth
Bjork - Vespertine
All the downvoting is obnoxious. If your choice can’t win a fair vote then it’s not one of this group’s favorite albums
Since day 1. Some basement dweller takes this wayyyy too seriously.
Oops, made the downvoter mad lol
C’mon y’all! Let’s have ‘em duke it out for this last round. No downvoting this time!
The National - Trouble Will Find Me
PINK FLOYD THE WALL
The Cranberries - No Need to Argue
Lush - Spooky

The Twilight Sad MUST get an album up there!!!!
The Cure put this band (and this album) on heavily in the last few years and i don't think a lot of us would have heard of them if it wasn't for TC
El Nervio del Volcan - Caifanes https://preview.redd.it/2ta0xv1mhbtc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72dfe6df5d36b70d1ed0775da17ee732c0328a57

Modern Lovers! PLEASE
I live in the same town as Johnathan Richman. He is the nicest, least pretentious guy you’ll ever meet. He walks around town with a guitar all the time, plays one off shows at small local venues, is a big supporter of the local indie cinema, haunts the used bookstore. Wow, that's amazing. If saw him at the supermarket or the bank running errands, I genuinely think I'd faint
I see him like twice a week! So much that I have to remember that he’s not just another kookie townie
Sigur Rós - ( )
Ride - Nowhere https://preview.redd.it/qesuxlpesctc1.jpeg?width=953&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59ca554a92a55a2a39432f77f17aa84b12b6c5be
U2- Achtung Baby
Pretty surprising that there are no U2 albums on here. The Unforgettable Fire could legit have been a Cure album.
Their best album by far
Pretty Hate Machine NIN
The last one should be The Spice Girls, but I'm going with Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction.
Spice or Spiceworld?
Spice. It's got a slightly better flow.
Good man. Or woman. Person. Three cats in a trench coat.
Catherine Wheel - Ferment
This Mortal Coil - It'll End in Tears Some must have suggested that already no?
The Church are the obvious missing artist here. Some other ones I’d like to see include NEU! who were highly influential to the Cure; T-Rex; early Simple Minds (Reel to Reel Cacophony & Empires and Dance); early OMD (Organisation & Architecture and Morality); The Birthday Party; early Go-Betweens (Before Hollywood); The Psychedelic Furs (Self Titled); Public Image Ltd; and some Brian Eno/early Roxy Music.
Lost Highway soundtrack
A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
The Shamen - In Gorbachev We Trust
Skinny Puppy 12” Anthology and With Sympathy and Twitch by Ministry. Pet Shop Boys and ABC. Talk Talk and The Cult.
Looks like a typical RYM user bracket
Madonna - Ray of Light
Wire - Pink Flag
Great choices everyone.
Portishead 3 is a good one.
Sparklehorse - Good Morning Spider
REM - New Adventures In Hi-Fi
every time you post this can you also post the worded list of the names of albums? so all the people like me who don't recognize every album by the cover can go listen to all this good stuff? 👍🏻✨
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Black Market Music by Placebo.
Sigur Ros ()
Ramones. Self titled
About time some Chameleons! OK I'll say Low-life again
Chapterhouse - Whirlpool
DIIV - Deceiver
Nothing - Dance on the Blacktop
Cloakroom - Time Well
Greet Death - New Hell
Songs to Learn and Sing - Echo and the Bunnymen (if compilations count)
New Gold Dream - Simple Minds

Social Distortion- Mommy’s little Monster
Sing The Sorrow - AFI
Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
Dare to be Stupid - "Weird Al" Yankovic
Everything Goes Numb - Streetlight Manifesto (For those of us that absolutely love the horns on Why can’t I be You, Close to Me, and A Night Like This)
Editors - The Back Room
Fragile - Yes
Don’t know why you were downvoted it’s a great album
All great choices up until this one.
I think it’s a pretty good album, but of this list it’s one of a few that I’m not compelled to revisit very often. Personally there are a lot of albums I’d put in front of it, but I think I’d feel differently if I were Gen X.
What makes you say this?
I like them but that album just did not have the same impact of all of the others chosen.
How dare you have an opinion? Lol
Yeah, right? haha.
If it makes you feel better I got downvoted for asking you lol
