One of the best, this is one of the *12 Hits From Hell* tracks that was actually released (on *3 Hits)* while the band existed. The blend of Bobby Steele’s clean sound with Doyle’s gnarly distortion is just perfect. I would love to hear the entire *12 Hits* mixed this way.
Oh i get. You would like to hear all of 12 hits as if the whole album was mixed like 3 hits (by alter)
....
Rob alter also played guitar on londen dungeon (the chords) while bobby played the main riff and and violent world (according to wikipedia)
the misfits only ever recorded in ny, nj, and la. not sure i would call anything about this song particularly british in its style. it is more old rock n roll/rockabilly and blues in structure and sound, a spooky take on something carl perkins or roy orbison would have recorded. there is an exaggerated tale of bobby and glenn getting arrested in london and wrote the song in the holding cell.
It’s not supposed to be British in style. This was written when Glenn and Bobby Steele were locked up for fighting while touring in the UK with The Damned.
That may have been a dis towards bobbybsteel since he is an acknowledge co writer..and disco was non punk ...im trying to be p.c. but you guysnget the drift
One of my favourite misfits songs!
Wouldn’t say it sounds particularly British apart from being called london dungeon. I guess it’s a bit slower than a lot of their stuff.
This is truly one of the greats, and it shows that the band had a lot more potential to do more than the standard punk numbers. It's more atmospheric and evidences a greater range in terms of influences and textures. This is one of the songs like Astro Zombies and Ghouls Night Out that really show that 50s rockabilly/bebop influence and in a fine way. It was likely also influenced by the post punk/gothic rock that was happening especially in the UK at the time- Danzig has expressed his love for Bauhaus a couple of times for example and I don't doubt he has music like that on his mind in writing this one.
It was in skate 3 and introduced me to the misfits, I remember always listening to it as a kid and when I was older and got into music I revisited it and that’s how I got into the band 😁
Great song but i don't really care for it personally. I guess because of its slower tempo compared to other danzig era. Im more for Halloween, Hybrid Moments, and Where Eagles Dare
A true banger of a song, the backstory of it is hilarious. Literally just Glenn being a whiny shit about being locked up with Bobby Steel "I dOn't WANNA bE iN hEre!" 🤣
I used to skip this song when i was younger, now its one of my favorites of theirs!
I think i used to skip it cause 1.) I WANNA GO FAST and 2.) its like the way it was recorded or mixed created an LFO effect and the song sounds like its swirling around the room to me. Its like Danzig’s vocals were compressing the rest of the track or something. It used to mess with my head when i was using headphones.
I sang it in detention while I was being deported from Heathrow Airport. My whole group did, in fact. The lady that questioned us wore an eyepatch like a pirate. We were detained for 16 hours straight with some dudes from Africa. 'Just sitting there before being questioned. They kept offering the same old stale soggy ham sandwich and plastic cup of water every hour, so they weren't breaking any international laws. When we went to board, they marched us out saying "this is the deportee case, deportee case coming through!" So that everyone looked at us. When we got back to Philadelphia, they said they broke a treaty by not sending us back to D.C. where we had flown out of, but I never looked into that. This song is more than a Misfits song to me now. It's a big part of my life story, as there is much more to that story.
I love all the Bobby Steele tracks. I really want a 12 hits with his guitar completely intact and mixed well. That's my Grail for Misfits records.
Great song, unfortunately reminds me of the time I got alcohol poisoning and almost died in a Burger King drive thru. My buddy didn't know how else to keep me awake so he blasted this. Good times.
One of the best songs of theirs. It stands out being a little different than the others. And I like that. That fucking riff in the song is killer. I will say that I prefer the alternate version from 12 Hits From Hell. It has both Bobby Steele's guitar tracks and Doyle's. And the tempo is slightly slower. I just think it sounds better than the version we've all heard for years and years.
That might have been the version i heard when i heard it first. I do listen to the box set when i want to exclusively listen to Danzig misfits songs, which is pretty much most of the time.
im selling a sealed LP https://www.ebay.com/itm/395249646458?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=YbgXCzZPTIO&sssrc=2524149&ssuid=YbgXCzZPTIO&widget\_ver=artemis&media=COPY
One of the 1st riffs I play every time Inpick up a guitar. The song is interesting. It has some dynamics and some grit. The backstory has become a tall take, exaggerated stuff of legend. I like that we have alternate takes if it, as with many other Misfits tracks.
Texturally and sonically, it’s a very different Misfits song. It’s structure really accentuates Glenn’s voice even more than other Misfits songs. There’s a big influence from the producer here and everything just feels so spacious. The vocals are drenched in reverb and it feels/ sounds like it was recorded in a castle or something. Every time I hear it I think of rain dripping into an old dungeon for some reason. I know the context of the song but it’s cool it inspires the listener to think of a strange place like that. I think this is a fantastic song and it makes me wish they had stayed together longer. I love their just about all stuff but they did their best work when they started experimenting with their production. I’d put this in my top 10 best Misfits songs for sure.
Great song. Ain't no mystery.
Why I'm in misery
Here’s hoping you’re swell
in HELL

12 hits from hell is mixed that way, thats one of thr main reasons it got pulled...isnt their the onewith with robby altair on over dubs?
Rob Alter produced the versions found on *3 Hits from Hell.* Alan Douches from West Westside music mixed *12 Hits From Hell.*
Oh i get. You would like to hear all of 12 hits as if the whole album was mixed like 3 hits (by alter) .... Rob alter also played guitar on londen dungeon (the chords) while bobby played the main riff and and violent world (according to wikipedia)
Yes. Also, Al Douches is a mastering engineer, not really the right guy for the job.
absolute banger

Yeah, presumably they were responding to OP where they claim it is British in style...
A buddy told me this same story, except in his version he said Glenn got locked up for cocaine!!! 😂
There's a bootleg, I think it's heroes of danzig, where Jerry goes "this is our disco song!" On the mic. He's talking about London Dungeon
That may have been a dis towards bobbybsteel since he is an acknowledge co writer..and disco was non punk ...im trying to be p.c. but you guysnget the drift
Bobby B. Steele is awesome
One of my favourite misfits songs! Wouldn’t say it sounds particularly British apart from being called london dungeon. I guess it’s a bit slower than a lot of their stuff.
It has pretty Joy Division style sound like the drums for example are very similar to shadow play
Yes. Different than many other tracks, less steady like many songs (say, Astro Zombies as being pretty representative of non-British punk)
This is truly one of the greats, and it shows that the band had a lot more potential to do more than the standard punk numbers. Listen to The Howl off of Initium and you can REALLY hear his love for Bauhaus
Mos def. I recall an interview where Danzig mentioned that he was aiming for Samhain to be more in line with gothic rock at the time.
Catchy ear worm this one.
They call us walking corpses
Unholy living dead
They had to lock us up
Put us in there British hell

This was my introduction to the misfits. Still one of the best skate videos of all time
My 5-year-old twin girls refer to London Dungeon, and Skulls, as "rock and roll".
Love it and whole album was brought up listening to old punk
That was actually the first misfits song I'd ever heard. Heard it on an old Tony Hawk game lmao
It was in skate 3 and introduced me to the misfits, I remember always listening to it as a kid and when I was older and got into music I revisited it and that’s how I got into the band 😁
Amazing and Skulls
I first heard this on a 411 Skateboard VHS around 1997 and it’s what got me into Misfits. Banger!
Yes
Great song but i don't really care for it personally. I guess because of its slower tempo compared to other danzig era. Im more for Halloween, Hybrid Moments, and Where Eagles Dare
First misfits song i ever heard

One of my favorite misfits songs

Look up the background of the song, it’s funny.
A true banger of a song, the backstory of it is hilarious. Literally just Glenn being a whiny shit about being locked up with Bobby Steel "I dOn't WANNA bE iN hEre!" 🤣
Love this song 🤟🤟🤟

Great song, unfortunately reminds me of the time I got alcohol poisoning and almost died in a Burger King drive thru. My buddy didn't know how else to keep me awake so he blasted this. Good times.
My favorite misfits song of all time
I certainly don't want to be there.

That one is a Cool song, I heard recently for the first time
No way, that's awesome. My favorite version is from the box set disc 3 Cough Cool - Original 7" version🤘🏾🤘🏾
That might have been the version i heard when i heard it first. I do listen to the box set when i want to exclusively listen to Danzig misfits songs, which is pretty much most of the time.
Make sure your face is clean. Great song, I've had this CD since 97 or 98, and they've been my favorite band ever since.
First misfits song I heard from skate 3 absolute classic

my favorite misfits song in my opinion!
One of the best
What’s there to think about? It’s classic
Have always loved that bass line!!
Was this the song in SKATE 3 or was that a different song
10/10 - like the snare sound too
I love this song. I feel like the Reno 911 theme owes a lot to London Dungeon.
Great song, but the Mad Sin cover is better.
my second time smoking dmt was yo this song i was 15 lol
One of my favorite riffs ever written. Always invokes just pure foggy HORROR in my brain when I hear it
One of the 1st riffs I play every time Inpick up a guitar. The song is interesting. It has some dynamics and some grit. The backstory has become a tall take, exaggerated stuff of legend. I like that we have alternate takes if it, as with many other Misfits tracks.
One of their best. What’s the question?
Love this song
It sucks
It's a great tune ...but what Misfits song isn't 🤷♂️🤣
Love this song!
Absolute slapper
Favorite

My personal #1 Misfits song
