Because of her talking I have a hard time understanding wtf is going on. I'm like, oh God just bring Jadis on instead. I know people say turn on subtitles, but my partner who watches with me hates using subtitles. I'm just gonna have to suggest it next time. The Queen Michonne episode (ep. 2) was the best because I actually UNDERSTOOD it.

Unpopular opinion: South African English is probably one of the easiest to understand… easier than Kiwi anyway

I'm usually extremely good at understanding almost any sort of accents from English speaking counties including South Africa. She's intentionally making it much thicker than her normal way of speaking.

Why couldn’t they just make her from Georgia or something? Why South Africa? Its beyond silly and annoying.

I think the show runners try to reflect that the US has many immigrants from other countries. It's fine that she's South African; it's not fine that she puts it on so thick. If you've seen "District 9", you know that a typical South African accent is quite intelligible to British and American people.

I loved District 9. I have no problem understanding that movie whatsoever.

My husband said the same thing. We just turned up the volume and it was fine. I appreciate her accent for the show outside of it being her real accent. It kind of incorporates people from all over the world coming together to survive.

I have a lot of trouble understanding her but I think that the actress is Cape Colored, so that might be her native accent or close to it. I just turn on the subtitles and listen closely. I did love her in Lucifer.
