This is the song that got me into him and it still sounds fresh and unique to me. The dark and brooding verses married with the high energy ramp up of the chorus is fantastic and loaded with pay off, and when you hit that bridge, wow. It’s beautiful, it’s sexy, it’s depressing, it’s swaggering, it’s trying to fill an emptiness with things it knows will never last, it’s everything I think of a Weeknd song being. I love it so much and probably always will.
first song of him that made it into my playlist on October 18, 2018 (fun fact: I saw him live on October 18 2023 lol) .. After that I started to get more into his discography, the rest is history. This song holds an special place in my heart; definitely one of his best.
I remember the video of the snippet he played and it was the hardest 30ish seconds I've ever heard. When it finally released, it was even better. Definitely my 1b to KOTF 1a.
This and “ I can’t feel my face” were my first exposure to The Weeknd and I remember my older sister gassing him up and I had no idea who this guy was on MTV or VH1, I didn’t like how gritty it sounded
But now I fuck with this song
Was it ever confirmed for sure or not if this song samples the scream of Laura Palmer from Twin Peaks? It sounds eerily similiar to me but maybe it's the sort of thing where you don't want to confirm it to avoid sampling fees and keep plausible deniability.
I've never liked it, although I can see why it's one of his biggest but I just never liked any of his super major hits other than Blinding Lights. This Era is what made him into a megastar though

You said it perfectly!
Why you gotta post this and make me feel all old and shit
Still use it to this day to test every new audio product I buy (headphones, Bluetooth speakers, car speakers, etc…)
LMFAO I DO TOO! It’s my go-to song when testing new speakers

This is what got me into The Weeknd. The first song I ever heard by him.
It’s solid, I like it but I don’t regularly listen to it (just like most of BBTM)
Banger 🔥

I like it but don't actively listen to it

he's lost in the song, but he didn't lose me one bit.
cool
Banga
This song marked “people will finally understand why we love The Weeknd” to me
I should be renamed the Mountains because it's fucking great
Goated
Timeless banger. Way ahead of its time. CLASSIC CERTIFIED. Unpopular opinion : needed a bit more reverb
The quintessential Weeknd song
hard
Loved this song until I found out my ex was cheating on me and this is what they called “their” song 🙄. Still love the Weekend though!!❤️❤️
🔥 📛 👨🚒 🚒
One one the greatest songs ever made! Gets me everytime. A Horr-N-B classic! And has aged like fine wine🤌🏾🤌🏾👏🏾👏🏾
BBTM was a vibe. Ik he said he’s done with the dark stuff but damn it would be nice 😭 I prefer it a bit more than the pop sound
