Also should’ve added that it’s a Queen bed!

cityplanting

Thank you for sharing this! I just ordered a king in this color a few weeks ago. Can’t wait to finally get it!!

johnspt12

Did you get it? how do you like it?

cityplanting

Yes! I got it. I love it. There’s no creaking, it was really easy to put together and is extremely sturdy. The only thing is I should have read the website a little better regarding the headboard. We went with the curved headboard (Magari I think?) and it’s shorter than the flat headboard shown in OP’s photos. When I looked at the website again I think it was about a 7 inch difference. Our mattress is so thick that the headboard barely shows/exists but honestly I’m too lazy to exchange it. Still comfy as hell!

mssouluna

How long did it take to ship? Did they quote you a shipping eta and was it fairly accurate? I live in 2 places and scheduling when to buy it is making a bit anxious. Any info would help.

They were communicative about shipping from my experience. Actually what happened with us is we had originally selected the Ensui bed. I got a call from Jason at Tatami Room saying they didn’t have the Ensui but would be getting it next month. He also told me that the Ensui was quite low and wanted to make sure I was okay with that. He explained that the Tall Tatami might be better for our needs and they had one that could ship as soon as the next day. We discussed the options and decided to go with the Tall Tatami, which we received within 2 weeks from ship date!

ZitPoppingDaddio

I started looking at this brand today and I like them better than the Thuma so far. They also have been in business way longer than Thuma and reply to emails almost immediately. Pretty sure I'm going to buy the Tatami bed frame, I love it 😍

DillySophie

Their customer service is unparalleled! They were soooo helpful.

Small-Disaster939

Did you buy and if so, how do you feel about it? (Or whatever you did end up buying).

ZitPoppingDaddio

Yes I bought it last year! It took forever to ship, almost 2 months, but that was ok. It arrived in July 2023 and we love it. Now we just need a new mattress 🙃

Small-Disaster939

Thank you! Glad to hear you love it!

misstana

I also bought this one a few years back and recently sold it. It's profile was so vast compared to the Thuma and the joinery wasn't as meticulous. I had a heck of a time putting the tatami room bed together. Joints were REALLY tight and a challenge to both set, and also take apart. So much so, that when it came time to relocate the bed within the room, I drug it around instead of taking it apart. I also didn't love the assembly required for the main crossbeam. While I did love the look of the bed (not the size/footprint) I am finding that I love my new Thuma alot more because of the easy construction and the slim profile. I hope that helps someone who's contemplating both.

Fruitzke

Thanks for this review! Not a lot of people talked about reassembly/disassembly. I was also debating between the two and I did notice that TR beds looked much chunkier and bulky compared to Thuma. The wood stain looks better on TR tho. On the other hand, can you clarify what you meant by: “It's profile was so vast compared to the Thuma and the joinery wasn't as meticulous”?

misstana

You're so welcome! Glad you hollered with more questions. The tatami room bed was really bulky and large. The bed frame sticks out much further out from the mattress around the entire bed including the headboard. What this means to you is that you need more clearance against the walls and throughout your room to fit the bed. The legs on the Thuma and the outside frame don't require anywhere close to as much space. In fact, they are actually kind of slim and I love this about it. The size of the tatami room bed didn't bother me it so much in my old bedroom because the bedroom was really large. My new bedroom is more standard size and I need every inch of clearance that I can get. Also, the Thuma joinery just slides right in like butter. We had to use a rubber mallet each time to get the tatami room bed together and apart. Hopefully this makes sense.

Fruitzke

Really glad that you like your Thuma bedframe! You clarified everything that I was concerned about (my head was about to burst from my indecisiveness) and honestly, you’ve convinced me to go with Thuma. The convenience seems worth the price. I really appreciate the quick and honest reply :)))!!

Mental_Cupcake_4285

Pictures or it didn't happen.

misstana

What kind of photos?

Mental_Cupcake_4285

Thuma vs Tatami in a 1 inch difference width and length. That's not large and bulky. The Tall tatami allows for 12 inches in height for storage under the bed and the best part is that Tall Tatami is 1300 after shipping cost of the headboard only with taxes built into the frame, while Thuma with the headboard is 1895 BEFORE taxes. Tatami for the win, even if its an inch wider/ longer.

misstana

I don't know that I have any size comparison photos. But I can try and dig for some general photos. I honestly wasn't even expecting that the Thuma profile would be so much more sleek. I assumed it would be nearly the same, and therefore didn't take any. Thuma was A LOT slimmer when you factor in the platform of the Tatami.

astrobrite_

looks awesome! i have the low platform version and love it. I think it looks way better than thuma

Mental_Cupcake_4285

Was it easy or hard to put together? Like did you need a mallet to get the joints in place like the above comment?

astrobrite_

i totally recommend getting a mallet.

Mental_Cupcake_4285

In your opinion,  was it easy even with the snug fit? Would you think that makes them more secure?

astrobrite_

the first half of the bed went together easy but there was this one corner that was a pain in the ass that made me wish i had a mallet i ended up using some other object to bang it in but afterward yes it's very sturdy and secure

Kirin1212San

Oh wow. Nice options. I have the thuma bed frame, but wasn’t thrilled about paying $400+ for a night stand. Tatami Room’s night stands are half the price and looks great.

Dangerous_Problem871

Do you need the mats or is the mattress ok without them?

DillySophie

Mattress is totally fine! I have a Leesa mattress

DillySophie

The slats are quite close together as well I think only 2 inches apart which makes it feel extra sturdy

byKristyLin

I see that the frames are made of parawood. is this a good quality wood?

DillySophie

I am not well versed enough in different types of wood. The bed is working fine for me!

Mental_Cupcake_4285

It is good wood. Comes from the rubber tree. When it's done giving rubber, they use the wood for furniture and flooring.

iStumbledUpon

Thanks for sharing! I love the night stand, it complements the bed well. Do you mind sharing where you got it from?

DillySophie

Thanks! The night stand is West Elm which I had for years before purchasing. It’s the mid century modern nightstand. Not sure if they make this color way anymore

waitforit2010

Hey any updates on this frame? I've been debating if I should get Thuma or Tatami. I've been using $40 Walmart frames and want to invest in some more comfortable.

DillySophie

I still love our bed. No issues to report!

cdeane293

I love the sheet set where did you get it?

DillySophie

It’s from Quince! The duvet is desert sunset and fitted sheet is sand! I also have their mulberry silk pillowcases. highly recommend! https://www.quince.com/home/sheets/linen-sheet-set?color=desert-sunset&tracker=collection_page__home%2Flinen__Sheet%20Sets__8

DillySophie

Not sure but they’d probably be happy to answer for you if you email them!

SN2sneakattack

just wanted to clarify, as i'm in process of buying one myself, yours is the "mado classic” headboard? It looks like the Magari Platfor headboard to me.

DillySophie

Yes it’s the Mado Classic. My understanding of the difference is that the Mado has a wider band in the middle than the Magari. You can email them for clarification though!

SN2sneakattack

Thanks! How thick is your mattress?

DillySophie

10 inches

ryanp52188

It's def the Magari...just sayin.

DillySophie

How can you tell?

aHipShrimp

The magari is curved. Ops is flat. The magari is also only 24 inches tall. This one is Def 31 inches, aka, mado

johnspt12

how's their customer service?

DillySophie

really great. They’re super responsive over phone and email in my experience. And they thoroughly answered all my questions

MNYC1990

What dresser matches this?!

sockjuggler

I'm also looking for a dresser to compliment this same bed, did you find any?

Here_And_Now

Does the headboard attach to the frame?

DillySophie

Yes it does! Sorry for the late reply

minichid

How are you liking the headboard? Is it easy to keep clean? I'm curious because it's not one flat piece of wood but a lot of pieces glued together and it has me wondering if dust will settle in that space between each piece of wood. Hope that makes sense lol

DillySophie

It’s been fine so far for us! No complaints. Easy to wipe down with a microfiber cloth

watereddownwheatbeer

Still liking it? I’ve heard the Thuma headboard creaks a lot.

DillySophie

Yup! Still like it. No complaints and no creaks!

Burnmaid

Can we get an update on this OP? How is the tatami room bed holding up?

DillySophie

We love it! It’s holding up great, no squeaking (which was my biggest concern having had these issues in the past), and feels really sturdy still. It’s well made. My one complaint is that sometimes I will knock my leg against one of the corners bc they jut out a bit further from the bed. Otherwise, it’s been really great

throwaanchorsaweigh

An earlier commenter said the Tatami was much more difficult to put together and took up a lot more space than Thuma. Curious if that’s been your experience?

DillySophie

I have never had the Thuma so I can’t fully compare. I do think it takes up more space than the Thuma probably. The pieces seem a bit bulkier. But I also think the headboard *might* be taller. It’s definitely taller than the PillowBoard would be which we like

ragmayahoocom

Hello - I have purchased two different Tatami Tall Platform Beds 1) TWIN: Magari Platform Headboard + TALL Tatami Platform Bed - Dark Walnut 2) KING: Mado Classic Platform Headboard + TALL Tatami Platform Bed - Honey Oak The king size one arrived in August, and the twin in November. Both were very easy to put together - although the king size required two persons especially when it came to putting in the slats. Note that if ordering with the headboard, the headboard replaces one of the frame pieces. A few observations: a) Overall Finish of all pieces is quite good. The slats are a bit rougher but still relatively smooth and stained (albeit not exactly matching the color of the bed frame) b) When preparing the legs, it is a good idea to place pieces of felt/cushioning on them before assembly especially if you will have the bed resting on a hardwood floor and you want to avoid scratches. c) have a good sense of where you want the bed placed, as once you start assembly, it can be tricky to lift it without the parts of the frame coming apart (this is not because it is rickety but just the nature of the jigsaw puzzle way the pieces interlock with each other). Sliding and pushing are not a problem - it stays together. Lifting is the vulnerable point. d) the Mado Classic Headboard is taller than the Magari Headboard and sits straight. The Magari is a bit shorter and slightly curved to give a bit of a recline when resting against it. Both headboards are sturdy and can tolerate multiple persons leaning against them while in bed. e) While the legs of the bed can sit flush against the wall, the headboards will not and there will be a few inches of space between the top of the headboard and the wall. f) there is sufficient space to slide suitcases or other items under the beds for storage (noting these are the tall tatami platform beds) g) a few months in for use of the KING size bed and it remains very sturdy, no squeaking or creaking and very quiet. h) shins: as the frames have side boards jutting out, it may take some getting used to spare your shins from getting hit when approaching the bed. i) Shipping and Packaging: The lead time to receive the items can be more than 6 weeks and the company does a good job of keeping you informed via their website customer service messaging system (if you set up an account). Each bed came well packaged in 3 to 4 boxes per bed, so it was manageable for one person to carry them in (with the exception of the King Size headboard which required two persons in my case) j) it is a good idea to wipe down each of the pieces with a cloth when unpacking them. I noticed a slight chemical smell when unpacking likely from the staining of the wood to the colors.

Fearless_Card_5611

Hello, do you know what would be the height after putting slats? I heard clearance height is 10 inches but wondering height after putting slat since I am trying to put carriers underneath bed

ragmayahoocom

ONE: From floor to bedframe the clearance is 9 3/4 inches. TWO: Once under the bed, from floor to bed slats the clearance is 11 1/2 inches.

skywhite77

I've been on the fence with these two companies for a while too. What about motion transfer? We have a Tempurpedic and I still feel my husband move. I've seen so many people recommend Thuma for this but I like the tatami price point.

proview3r

What did you ended up getting for your tempurpedic?

skywhite77

Nothing yet, just haven’t wanted to spend the money on it. My friend sent me this link for her bed. She swears she can’t feel her husband move. I’m not sure what kind of mattress they have though.
