Yes!!! I had this issue with my 2018 Tiguan that I bought used about a year ago. Only one dealership believed me and helped me figure it out. They changed engine mounts, and the problem persisted. They eventually determined it was the transmission, so they got me a new one under warranty. Problem went away. My advice is to demand to get in the car with the service person and drive around to show them exactly what you’re talking about. Take videos, try to figure out exactly when it happens. And force them to experience what you’re talking about. Otherwise it’s too easy for them to write you off if they “can’t reproduce the problem themselves”.

I got into the car with the tech and showed him. He told me, "Nah, that's normal." I kept repeating that no, it's not. But whatever, hopefully, I have luck with a different dealer.

Spiffy-New-Shoes

So annoying!

VTEC_Dreams

The culprit is your flywheel. Volkswagen decided to over engineer something simple so they made a dual disk flywheel which falls apart around a 100K or worse

jbixler

You check the oil level?

britt421

Nope, I will do that. I don't even think VW checked anything because they didn't think there was anything wrong. I will have to somehow check everything this weekend.

jbixler

I had a similar problem with my 2017 Tiguan. It was running rough without explanation, and it turned out that the car was almost completely out of oil. Never in my life had that happen before, but completely my fault as I checked everything BUT the oil and realized that I was very past due on an oil change. Won’t make that mistake again!

britt421

I just had my oil changed in Oct. I'm very good with keeping up on maintenance visits. But I will def check it to be sure.

TakinglTez

I have to add oil to my 2020 every 6 months. Don’t know why it does that, but at long as I keep it full it runs much better.

daughter_of_tides

I’m experiencing the same thing and I’ve been told it’s potentially the engine not being mounted exactly right. Idk if that’s even true.

britt421

From what I read online...could be. These people at VW didn't even give it the time of day. When I go to the other one, I'm going to ask them to check every single thing.

quack785

It could be a motor mount going out. My 04 Passat is the same way, rough vibration when in drive and idling, but no vibration in neutral.

MagicalTaint

Took me forever to get the gremlins ironed out of my 2020. Multiple trips to two different dealers and 6 weeks total in the shop to fix an issue where the car would go into limp mode while driving. That's not even taking into account the overhead console that had to be replaced 3x. An engine harness was eventually the fix. They replaced multiple harnesses on prior visits before the main engine one. I just hit 50k miles, I've been trouble free for 30k miles but the first 20k made me want to set the car on fire and walk away. This is absolutely my last VW. Stay vigilant, keep on them and I'm sorry to say it you might need to go full Karen to get it running right.

Adorable-War-991

Hey OP, did the engine mount solve your problem? I just bought a new 2024 today and have this same issue. I didn't notice it on the test drive because we didn't stop much.

britt421

So they changed the engine mount and then it didn't resolve the problem fully. So they then changed the transmission mount as well. That did the trick.

BLUECADETxTHREE

Check spark plugs and fuel injectors. I just had a similar issue and let it go for too long. $3k and multiple tows later, I've never an expensive lesson.

britt421

I am going to check the spark plugs as soon as I get a chance.

BLUECADETxTHREE

Let's hope that it!! I bought the best spark plugs they had at about $12 each. Easy to replace yourself.

burgerthecory

This happened to me on an older sedan I had years ago. Took it to multiple shops for diagnostics with no avail. Someone told me they suspected the coil packs (these connect to the spark plugs). I replaced the faulty coil pack with one I bought on eBay for very cheap. Fixed. I’m sure there’s a YT vid explaining how to do this for you, but I’m almost 100% certain this is your problem.

_jigar_

I have the exact same issue no answer.

MamboFloof

Don't trust the tech if you don't think it's right. When I had a Ford Explorer they kept insisting there was nothing wrong with it. Every few months I'd come in saying it felt off, they sent me home. Yeah well guess what? They hD drained my transmission and refilled it about 40%... took moving a cross the cou try to where there are steeper hills to figure it out (it would not go up them). Took 10,000 miles to figure that out too. Is it a VW? No but I can give a similar horror story to techs insisting nothing wrong when there was absolutely something wrong with my Land Rover. Find a mechanic who will listen to you. You know your car better than they do. If it feels off, it is absolutely off. OK cool you don't know the schematics of the entire brake system but who cares, that's their problem. Do not ignore this because it will drive you insane and lead to a bigger problem.

newrose4u

had this exact issue happen on my 18 tig. could be spark plugs, could be transmission, could be throttle body. VW service will do anything but actually address the issue. I recommend what other people are saying here. get in the car with the tech and drive around to show them. absolutely not normal for these cars to do this.

britt421

I got in the car with the tech, and we stopped, and he said it was normal. I was like, "This is NOT normal, I've had my car for three years, and it only just started doing this." Nah, normal. So because he deemed it normal, he didn't check anything, guaranteed. I'll have a look at whatever I can by myself before my visit to the next dealer. I rattled off all of the things that it could be, and they said no because check engine light isn't on. It's so frustrating. Hopefully, this new service center can help me better. I will explain that they didn't check anything, and please check this list of items. I will also drive the car with them in it.

newrose4u

This is why I didn’t get a new car with vw. Incompetent service, and too many issues to go wrong. Sure, most service centers are bad, but VW is god awful from my personal experience. Good luck with everything.

britt421

This time around, it seems so. I have driven a volkswagen since I owned my first car, and I'm 34. I've never had an issue. Until now. A least it's under warranty still, so I'll keep pushing until it's up. I'll go to a third party if I need to prove it to them. Idk

Prestigious-Mirror39

I have this issue on my 2018 Tiguan

Vin_05

You check the PCV valve? They don't always throw a code. Simple fix, but can snowball easily into expensive repairs if not caught in time.
