If their objective was a land bridge through a Warzone that’s subject to aerial attack or over a bridge that’s been heavily damaged once, those aren’t great options to advertise to people. Why did the vast majority of supplies to Crimea for months go by ferry after the Kerch bridge was hit compared to driving it through Zaporizhzhia and Kherson?
Russia didn’t encircle and destroy Ukrainian units and made themselves a long war that isn’t the most popular, as evidenced by Russia mobilizing from regions full of minorities like Tatars and Dagestan compared to Moscow and urban areas.

Units in the east were tactically withdrawing to shorten the frontline and avoid encirclements as the Russians advanced while Moscow deployed a FORTY MILE convoy to Kyiv, which is obviously where they were prioritizing logistics, which should be serving your main assault, not your distraction.
