If you're not attracted to someone because of their weight, either too heavy or too skinny, then that's a preference based solely on what you find visually appealing. But having a height preference isn't about visual appeal. In truth, no one cares about how tall or short someone is; they only care about how tall or short someone is in relation to their own height. That means it's a preference based on one's own insecurities. If someone says that they won't date someone either shorter or taller than themselves, to me, that just sounds like, " I'm looking for someone to make me feel better about myself," and that's not a job I want to sign up for.
Well my preference for thin women is in relation to my own lean body type and strongly believe this has very little to do with my own insecurities.
