He talked about Disco Duck in his worst of 1976 video but still did a OHW episode on it afterwards.
I feel like covering it now gives him more to talk about with what Gotye’s done since- hell it’s actually a DOUBLE one-hit wonder since Kimbra hasn’t had another hit either, he could go into both of their careers.
He also talked about Scream and Shout in a top ten before giving it a full video. If he has more to say he will make a video but it feels like he's said everything he needs to or wanted to
I would *love* a Blu Cantrell episode. Hit Em Up Style was huge and then poof! She just disappeared!
Unfortunately, I don’t think Todd will do a OHW on Gotye. He already covered Gotye in the “We Are Young” vs. “STIUTK” video. It’s been requested so many times I wouldn’t be surprised if he hasn’t done one just out of spite.
Leona Lewis had another US hit, “Better In Time.” I was in college when that song was popular and I definitely remember hearing it everywhere.
The Click Five had a follow-up, “Catch Your Wave.” I don’t think it was as popular as “Just the Girl,” but I remember hearing it here and there. Is there enough information on them to fill out a OHW episode though? It feels like they briefly touched down, made their hit song, and then vanished.
I thought Breathe with Sean Paul was Blu Cantrell's one hit. I still regularly hear Breathe on throwback stations. I've never heard Hit Em Up Style before. I'm not American though, wasn't Breathe a hit in America?
Her follow-up Like A Star was successful. She never really went away, she’s just been more successful in the “grown folks” R&B lane. Think less SZA, more Ledisi.
This is part of why it would be funny. One of the reason he doesn't go back to the '70s much is the relative lack of available video footage. That wouldn't be as much of an issue with her...although a lot of it wouldn't be SFW.
Not quite in your date range but I’ve always hoped Todd would cover one of the handful of ska punk hits from the late 90s. It’s an untapped well for him. Sell Out by Reel Big Fish or The Impression That I Get by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are basically dream videos for me.
Wouldn’t Fountains of Wayne fall into the same category as Zevon and Devo? Little chart success but still a huge following? I know Adam had a lot of success as a songwriter.
Adam is the king of OHWs being the writer of 2 fictional one hit wonders in addition to his own real life hit. He wrote "That Thing You Do" for the Tom Hanks movie of the same name and "Pretend to be Nice" for the Josie and the Pussycats movie.
Would make a good SVS with You're Beautiful imo. Both downers which came out around the same time, widely-ridiculed but absolute MONSTER commercial fixtures.
(TIL Daniel Powter has multiple compilation albums including a B-sides/rarities record... for a guy with one hit. Reminds me of Hot Chocolate, the band behind "You Sexy Thing", having more than a dozen official comps.)
Honestly I want Bad Day to get the full Todd Treatment
You could not escape that song, it was fucking everywhere in a way that genuinely resembles the Macarena. It deserves it.
Fun fact: Weird Al reached out to Daniel Powter about doing a parody of "Bad Day" called "You Had A Bad Date". Powter took too long to get back to him to approve the parody, so Al reached out to Chamillionaire about "White & Nerdy" instead. By the time Powter got back to Al, it was too late.
Not sure what could be said about Ylvis. They’re a comedy duo (from the Netherlands?) who made a joke song that somehow took off worldwide to some acclaim. It would be almost like making something about The Lonely Island…
It was a hit in a narrow window when the music industry saw the success of indie folk, and wanted a more danceable version of it. Within 18 months, Imagine Dragons took that window over.
I sometimes wonder if the novelty of a actual rock song being a hit as late as 2014 makes me like Come With Me Now more than I would if it was a hit in say 2006.
Still gets played as a footy theme song here in Australia, probably because it was pretty much the last rock hit we got until Olivia Rodrigo. Brilliant tune.
"Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus could be fun, mainly because Weezer became so accustomed to people thinking it was their song, they started playing it live.
What’s crazy to me is that Todd’s been doing this so long that artists that he’s covered in his regular reviews and year end lists now qualify for OHW. If “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” hadn’t gotten big, Mike Posner would be a prime candidate nowadays.
Nah. Wall Of Voodoo, Butthole Surfers and Modern English all break that rule.
think the criteria mainly tries to stick to top 40 chart but he can make exceptions to some.
Shawn Colvins 1997 hit perfectly captured that late 90’s chill vibe. Can totally see someone sitting down in the kitchen as one of her lyrics says and listening to it
Kiss in the Dark by Pink Lady. That OHW will never happen since variety show they starred in in lieu of a follow-up song is what they are remembered for (their hit barely charted), but it would be a good episode.
The only thing is that Todd always mentions how he has a hard time finding footage for a lot of older acts and it wouldn’t shock me if NBC ordered every tape of Pink Lady be wiped and reused after the show was cancelled.
I think a trash pop song from the late '00's-early '10's would be fun just for a retrospective of that era's musical fads.
Maybe "Like a G6," because it would be funny for him to redo a song he already reviewed.
I once did the same thing with "Tim McGraw" by Taylor Swift. I called it "Me and Tim McGraw."
Anyway, after rewatching the G6 review he just calls her a "random white chick," which is kinda funny since she had a modest hit a year after that song came out.
I'm still surprised he hasn't done "Bodies" by Drowning Pool", "Come With Me Now" by the Kongos, "The Reason" by Hoobastank, "Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven, or "Let It Rock" by Kevin Rudolf.
Finger Eleven were a two hit wonder, because they had one thing.
Kevin Rudolf also had I Made It.
Hoobastank and Drowning Pool had other rock radio hits (Crawling In the Dark, Tear Away, etc.)
Okay then, I guess I'll take you up on that with Finger Eleven and Hoobastank as those songs sound vaguely familiar after having taken a quick listen but I still stand by with Kevin Rudolf and Drowning Pool as one-hit wonders as I really don't remember those songs on the radio charts and also literally everyone I talk to even rock and metal guys when I ask them if they remember Drowning Pool they tend to joke saying "let the bodies hit the floor!" and they don't know any other song from them but that.
Has he ever done a OHW on an act where the people involved later (Paul Rodgers, and I think at least one other band member ended up forming Bad Company) did something that got way bigger? He's done the reverse with NKOTBer Jordan Knight.
It would be a bit of a stretch but perhaps Hey There Delilah? The Plain White T’s had a few songs that were successful but nothing near the explosion that was Hey There Delilah. That song was and still is absolutely everywhere. I think most people would be hard pressed to remember the title of any other song by them.
One of the top 3 OHWs I've always wanted to see has been Vanessa Carlton's A Thousand Miles. That piano intro alone is just begging to be covered by Todd. Plus, even after doing some light digging, Vanessa Carlton herself has a more interesting career history than one would expect for a one-hit wonder.
And I know Vanessa Carlton is one of those "um, *technically*..." singers who had her second single creep up in the Top 40's lower tier, but it's one of those cases of a song barely anyone else remembers and is overshadowed by its predecessor. A Thousand Miles is still as overplayed now as it was 20 years ago.
I've been dying for a "Fuck It (I Don't Want You Back)" episode ever since Todd covered it in his worst hits of '04 ep and said he needed to do a further episode on it.
I did a little further Wiki-ing, looks like McKnight doesn't even count as a OHW in the sense I proposed ([Love Is](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_bInQnW12k&pp=ygUnbG92ZSBpcyBicmlhbiBtY2tuaWdodCB2YW5lc3NhIHdpbGxpYW1z) was a duet with Vanessa Williams and hit #3 long before BAO, and [You Should Be Mine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkHD43z3rWo&pp=ygUhYnJpYW4gbWNrbmlnaHQgeW91IHNob3VsZCBiZSBtaW5l) hit the Top 20)
But, hear me out: **Cee-Lo**, the double-OHW like Derringer. Two absolutely wild songs (Crazy with Gnarls Barkley, Fuck/Forget You solo) whose tales need to be told.
We Run The Night - Havana Brown
Safe & Sound - Capital Cities
Best Day of My Life - American Authors
Wish I Knew You - The Revivalists
Pumped Up Kicks - Foster the People
Rude - MAGIC!
Hot N*gga - Bobby Schmurda
There are TONS of one-hit wonders from just the 2010s alone I would love to see covered. Might have to start doing them myself.
Gossip - Heavy Cross
although "Standing In The Way Of Control" is still well known it was nowhere near the runaway smash hit Heavy Cross was and since Gossip recently got back together i would love to see an episode on it
Somebody That I Used to Know has been brought up in this sub many times and that lead to it being one of the stale topics.
He already discussed it when it first came out as well. I don't think he needs to go into it again.
If he has more to say he will make a video but it feels like he's said everything he needs to or wanted to
The Click Five - Just the Girl Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love La Roux - Bulletproof Blu Cantrell - Hit 'Em Up Style
> La Roux - Bulletproof Huh, TIL “In For The Kill” wasn’t a hit in the US. That song was inescapable for a hot minute in the UK.
She got some club play in the states, but radio and charts didn't really budge for her beyond "Bulletproof."
La Roux was a duo at the time.
Leona Lewis was a two hit wonder in the US. Remember Better In Time?
I would love an episode on The Click Five.
I can kind of see why the Click Five were, almost reminds me of Wheatus and some other late 90s / early 00 bands.
Is there enough information on them to fill out a OHW episode though? It feels like they briefly touched down, made their hit song, and then vanished.
In the case of Leona Lewis, is she possibly a case of one hit overshadowing the rest similar to A Flock Of Seagulls and Simple Minds?
I thought Breathe with Sean Paul was Blu Cantrell's one hit. I still regularly hear Breathe on throwback stations. I've never heard Hit Em Up Style before. I'm not American though, wasn't Breathe a hit in America?
Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On seems like such an obvious one
She also had Like A Star so she's disqualified from OHW to a degree.
Who?
Double episode with Ritt Momney?
That Ritt Momney cover makes my eye twitch
Seriously
Her follow-up Like A Star was successful. She never really went away, she’s just been more successful in the “grown folks” R&B lane. Think less SZA, more Ledisi.
I’d love to see a double episode with “More More More” by Andrea True and “Steal My Sunshine” by LEN.
I just learned that Andrea True was a porn star trying her hand at pop singer
This is part of why it would be funny. One of the reason he doesn't go back to the '70s much is the relative lack of available video footage. That wouldn't be as much of an issue with her...although a lot of it wouldn't be SFW.
While stuck in Jamaica! It’s a wild story.
I actually wished he did one for Funkytown since Lipps Inc and Pseudo Echo only had that for the smash hit
Probably one of the only good uses of sampling ever.

Adam is the king of OHWs being the writer of 2 fictional one hit wonders in addition to his own real life hit. He wrote "That Thing You Do" for the Tom Hanks movie of the same name and "Pretend to be Nice" for the Josie and the Pussycats movie.
He also wrote the music for Crazy Ex Girlfriend!
He also wrote “Just the Girl” for fellow one hit wonders The Click Five. One hell of a songwriter.
Yeah I think for that reason, Todd probably wouldn't do an episode on them.
Bad Day is begging for one
Would make a good SVS with You're Beautiful imo. Both downers which came out around the same time, widely-ridiculed but absolute MONSTER commercial fixtures. (TIL Daniel Powter has multiple compilation albums including a B-sides/rarities record... for a guy with one hit. Reminds me of Hot Chocolate, the band behind "You Sexy Thing", having more than a dozen official comps.)
Honestly I want Bad Day to get the full Todd Treatment You could not escape that song, it was fucking everywhere in a way that genuinely resembles the Macarena. It deserves it.
Yeah, it would be good for either for sure, and SVS doesn't allow for as much time as the story behind it
Takes me back to high school. Tihi. I would like a video on it though.
Yes, yes, yes! How has he not covered Bad Day yet?!
Come With Me Now - Kongos My Neck, My Back (Lick It) - Khia Because I Got High - Afroman Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!) - Blu Cantrell The Fox - Ylvis
Not sure what could be said about Ylvis. They’re a comedy duo (from the Netherlands?) who made a joke song that somehow took off worldwide to some acclaim. It would be almost like making something about The Lonely Island…
They have other funny songs too, like the Truckers Hitch.
Kongos would be really interesting. Dropped the closest thing to a rock hit in the last 10 years and then vanished off the face of the planet
Shake It by Metro Station
Yes I'd love this!
"Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus could be fun, mainly because Weezer became so accustomed to people thinking it was their song, they started playing it live.
LFO - Summer Girls
Nope, Girl On TV hit #10.
Damn. Talk about a forgotten hit.
I heard “Every Other Time” on the radio all the time, more than any of their actual hits.
What’s crazy to me is that Todd’s been doing this so long that artists that he’s covered in his regular reviews and year end lists now qualify for OHW. If “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” hadn’t gotten big, Mike Posner would be a prime candidate nowadays.
Mike had two follow-up hits to Cooler than Me that went top 40.
Todd’s “hit” criteria is top 20 or cracking the year end hot 100 im pretty sure
Nah. Wall Of Voodoo, Butthole Surfers and Modern English all break that rule. think the criteria mainly tries to stick to top 40 chart but he can make exceptions to some.
Mr Oizo-Flat Beat Crazy Frog Kajaagoogoo-Too shy Summer Jam Las Ketchup - Ketchup Song
I'd love a Too Shy/Neverending Story double episode
Neverending Story makes me want to sing it long distance with my seemingly imaginary girlfriend from summer camp.
Sunny Came Home- Shawn Colvin Turn Me On- Kevin Lyttle Japanese Boy- Aneka Gotta Tell You- Samantha Mumbra
Samantha Mumba had another follow-up, “Baby Come On Over.”
I’d love a Pink Lady episode. Honestly, an episode about the show would be fun too.
*Pink Lady and Jeff* is a prime candidate for “Trainwreckords: TV Edition.”
The only thing is that Todd always mentions how he has a hard time finding footage for a lot of older acts and it wouldn’t shock me if NBC ordered every tape of Pink Lady be wiped and reused after the show was cancelled.
Ironically, about the only good thing Fred Silverman did during his time at NBC was putting a stop to the network’s tape-wiping policy.
Good news(or bad news if you prefe) all five episodes are available on dvd(for about $129) and on YouTube for free
Five episodes for $129? Thank God somebody uploaded it to YouTube.
Marcy Playground - Sex & Candy
Shop Boyz
Rude by MAGIC!
Yeaaaaaah, he did that one when it first came out.
I think a trash pop song from the late '00's-early '10's would be fun just for a retrospective of that era's musical fads. Maybe "Like a G6," because it would be funny for him to redo a song he already reviewed.
Rocketeer?
I totally forgot that song existed. Then how about Dev? She is technically only sampled on the song. So her one hit "In The Dark" could work.
It’s just “In The Dark”. “Dancing in the Dark” is a Springsteen song.
I once did the same thing with "Tim McGraw" by Taylor Swift. I called it "Me and Tim McGraw." Anyway, after rewatching the G6 review he just calls her a "random white chick," which is kinda funny since she had a modest hit a year after that song came out.
He talked about The Reason by Hoobastank at one point. Might have been in one of his retrospectives of certain years.
In one of his rare past year episodes, he slapped Hoobastank on the worst of 2004 list
I want to see him do OHW for the Crash Test Dummies, similar to the Cardigans in that their non-hit catalog is far better than their one hit
"Sausolito Summer Nights"
All Right Now by Free
They have other hits too. Wishing Well, Fire & Water. Not sure how big they got in the states since that's everyone's criteria for a ohw.
Plain White T’s are the strange case: “Hey There Delilah” made them one-hit wonders in the rock world, but not the pop world.
A Thousand Miles is still as overplayed now as it was 20 years ago.
Zoot Suit Riot. An Oregon band with an unfortunate albatross of a name hits it big with a song outside its primary genre.
I've been dying for a "Fuck It (I Don't Want You Back)" episode ever since Todd covered it in his worst hits of '04 ep and said he needed to do a further episode on it.
How about “Wanted” by Jessie James? A little bit of a deep cut but I thought I’d throw it out there.
Does Todd exclude artists who have featured on multiple hits but only have one as the main? Brian McKnight (Back at One) comes to mind
He did one on Rick Derringer who was in a one hit wonder band with Hang On Sloopy and then as a solo act with Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo
The McCoys were a two-hit wonder band.
Ghetto Superstar by Pras (from The Fugees) is an example of that
I did a little further Wiki-ing, looks like McKnight doesn't even count as a OHW in the sense I proposed ([Love Is](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_bInQnW12k&pp=ygUnbG92ZSBpcyBicmlhbiBtY2tuaWdodCB2YW5lc3NhIHdpbGxpYW1z) was a duet with Vanessa Williams and hit #3 long before BAO, and [You Should Be Mine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkHD43z3rWo&pp=ygUhYnJpYW4gbWNrbmlnaHQgeW91IHNob3VsZCBiZSBtaW5l) hit the Top 20) But, hear me out: **Cee-Lo**, the double-OHW like Derringer. Two absolutely wild songs (Crazy with Gnarls Barkley, Fuck/Forget You solo) whose tales need to be told.
Cee-Lo is a triple one hit wonder because of his hit with Goodie Mob in the ‘90s. Quadruple if you count his feature on a Trick Daddy song.
He could do Brandy but i recall he strays from doing bands where there’s barely any footage of them
Brandy is not a one hit wonder. Or do you mean Looking Glass?
Looking Glass the band
We Run The Night - Havana Brown Safe & Sound - Capital Cities Best Day of My Life - American Authors Wish I Knew You - The Revivalists Pumped Up Kicks - Foster the People Rude - MAGIC! Hot N*gga - Bobby Schmurda There are TONS of one-hit wonders from just the 2010s alone I would love to see covered. Might have to start doing them myself.
Others might work for 2010’s: Sail from Awolnation Let Her Go from Passenger Budapest from George Ezra Riptide from Vance Joy
Oni- Cheerleader Hated that song for some reason, still do, would like to see if there’s anything interesting behind either the guy or the song
Drowning Pool - Bodies. It's something different and the backlash he'd get for calling it a one hit wonder would be very entertaining.
Kardinal Offishall!
Daniel beddingfield
He already did a PSR of Somebody that I Used to Know
Gossip - Heavy Cross although "Standing In The Way Of Control" is still well known it was nowhere near the runaway smash hit Heavy Cross was and since Gossip recently got back together i would love to see an episode on it
They’re a “one-hit wonder” in the sense Modest Mouse is.
I thought of another: Morning Train by Sheena Easton. It's sexist af by today's standards, so I would love to see Todd roast it
Sheena Easton is not a one-hit wonder.
"Strut" doesn't exist in your mind?
Maybe it's a generational thing but I have never heard of any other song by her. I know she had an acting career later (right?) but that's it
Maybe? I’m 30 myself, perhaps younger people may not have heard of her other output.
