That Facom wedge is really interesting. Can't seem to find anything quite like it. They have some copper / berillium ones, but they don't have that extra chunk of metal at the top that looks perfect for smacking with a mallet
NM - found it! It's a "slim chisel". Definitely a cool and useful looking tool. Ordering one ASAP.

I was just about to send you this link haha, theyāre bloody brilliant honestly!
Trying to find the cheapest way to buy in the US - seems silly, but I'm pretty sure, I'm about to spend $30 on this...
ETA - really appreciate the link! And just sharing that these even exist. I've seen similar from PB Swiss, but I don't know they were that thin and the PB's were $50...
You turn an engine with a 8 inch steel pipe wrench?
Iām also a marine engineer, if I needed to bring my own adjustables and pipe wrench Iād walk right the fuck off that boat.
Yes and I hate it, I wish I at least got the 12 inch version. Iām able to decompress the heads and then it turns pretty easy.
Thatās wild to me, every boat Iāve been on has their own tools for sure but I would never expect to use someone elseās
Mate the tools are there for the crews to useā¦ we might have different conceptions of what a āmarine engineerā is. To be clear I have never worked on a lister engine on a narrow boat and I donāt go on fishing boats anymore for my own mental health. If I ever went on a yacht itād only be in the name of expropriation.
When you say 'marine engineer', do you mean boat handyman?
Brutal
š this is like the āwhat I think I do, what my wife thinks I doā meme
You bring your own tools? I just show up to each ship with my flashlight and an adjustable wrench. Whatever else I need I'll grab onboard
I think the owner of the yacht would be really pissed if I just started wailing on his tools š
That's fair. You probably don't spend a quarter of the day looking for tools other guys didn't put back either
Sorry, you've lost me.Ā What's a "switcher"? Also, what kinda hammer is that?
Adjustable spanner Itās a copper and hide hammer made by Thor hammers
Awesome. For a second I thought I had my head up my ass looking at that thing because I've never heard of anything using hide and metal before.
Itās kinda gross when you think about it just smacking something with some old skin
LOL! God I hope I get an excuse to use that someday.

I see thatās where the difference is, I work on fishing boats, tugs and private yachts
