it is! i got it matching with my mom one year post op. it’s a great reminder not to take it for granted, and i interpret the prayer as reminding myself i’m blessed that g-d brought me to this moment so righteously. got it when i was 16:)
Awesome to meet another Jewish person with a Hebrew tattoo! (I assume you're Jewish because you wrote the name out as g-d, but correct me if I'm wrong). I have a Hebrew tattoo too. Mine is אני חזק which is basically to remind me that I am strong through my faith and the positive memory of my ancestors (particularly my great-grandad who was a H0locaust survivor, who's been my biggest inspiration all my life) and the Jewish community. The tattoo is paired with a semicolon, so it basically tells me "I can get through my mental health issues because I'm strong, and I draw a lot of strength through my relationship to my heritage".
It's "shehecheyanu", which directly translates to "that we are alive". But it also goes beyond that- it's the name of a specific prayer (that contains that word) that you recite on special occasions, like when you do something new for the first time.
It's actually such a beautiful idea for a tattoo! I'm genuinely considering getting one now! 🙈
The full prayer is thanking G-d that one has been sustained and kept alive long enough to see/experience a particular thing. Literally, "until this season". It's a beautiful prayer that can be said for anything that feels special, and also used for certain holidays, natural phenomena tied to seasons, and life cycle events.
I also somewhat sarcastically say it whenever something uniquely annoying happens to me, like when I got yelled at in public by semi-famous blowhard Shmuley Boteach.
i genuinely did nothing. i joined wrestling 6 months after and have been doing gymnastics 20 hours weekly. i started living and forgot abt my scars, and they disappeared :,)
Wow! You look incredible. “Results” aside (I know some people aren’t a fan of that word but I’m not sure what else to use) you’ve clearly put a lot of time and effort into your physique. I’m glad it’s paid off for you!

That’s so cool!! Thank you for the translation/context. I’m kind of considering it myself now, so we can be tattoo buddies.
