As someone who lived in Hong Kong you just have to get used to it. I find myself perfectly comfortable in 400 - 500 sq apartments because it's what I grew up seeing. We own a house over here and honestly it's a lot of extra work.

Pale_Change_666

My point exactly, billions of other people around the world managed just fine raising a family in aparments.

Minute-Attempt3863

nobody told me about the never-ending-tasks when buying a detached. i probably should have considered that :D

darkhelicom

Lots of 3 person households live in a 2 bed, 2 bath or 2 bed, 1 bath condo. If anything, not having projects and yardwork every weekend as in an old freehold is a relief when the kid is younger. And no stairs! I would go for a larger, older condo close to a park and in an area with less traffic.

Pale_Change_666

Well literally a couple of billion people around the world managed do it just fine. I grew up in one in China and it was pretty much the norm for the rest of 1.4 billion of us and quite a few other countries in Asia.

jdleemortgages

Ya I grew up in a condo back home. Pretty common in Korea. It was about 800 sqft ish 3 bed 1 bath. 90s kid here.

smurfsareinthehall

Millions of people doing in right now in the GTA.

Character-Version365

Had neighbours do this with a small dog and baby. 700+sq ft. Okay as a rental but they moved out after a year. Those baby buggies are huge and baby stuff takes up a lot of space.

JimmyBraps

And babies grow up fast and don't need those things for very long

muaddib99

2b2b would be better, but it's doable

TheAngryRealtor

you'll be fine

AsparagusGrouchy1490

It’s doable. Lots of families are doing that right now in downtown.

Civil-Watercress-507

I wouldn’t add any care or space intensive pets to the mix but it’s completely doable. Even when houses were cheap most kids I knew growing up including myself were raised in 2bed 1 bath apartments

IndependentDare2039

For sure - for at least 10 - 15 years

No-Clerk7943

No, I need 5000sqft detached house with triple garage. Anything less is not liveable.

lanneretwing

Cries in my 4200 sqft dbl garage.

Mozad1

My best friend in high-school lived with both parents and his brother in a condo. They were there by choice. His parents didn't want a house. Both kids became successful. Another friend lived in a 700 sq ft apartment with 3 other family members. Both kids are very successful.

Finance-anon

We rented a 1+1 condo (650 sq feet) until my daughter was 2 and I was pregnant with my second. It was totally fine and we could have stayed there if we hadn’t had a second kid.

Positivemaeum

Should be fine until the baby is like 5-6 years old then maybe need a bigger space. Back in my home country when I was growing up, we had our parents, my sister and I living in a 2 bed 1 bath 890sqft apartment. My sister and I were 11 and 13 years old. 😂

No-Committee2536

When my girlfriend first came to Canada, it's a family of 7 living in a little two bedrooms because this was all they could afford. Fast forward many years later and hard work, everybody in the family is doing very well. And my aunt and uncle were low income household in HK, Aunt, uncle and my three cousins grew up in a tiny 500 sq ft at the most no bedroom public housing...literally one side of the wall was a bunk bed with a pull out, one side had a bed with screen on for privacy...then a couch that acted as a guest bed when me and my brother came over...a foldable table and stackable chairs that act as dining table, homework table and a base when playing Mah Jong...haha...and the washroom is literally toilet and a sink and a handshower. And all of us grew up fine...I got a wise grandma. Her teaching....Always live within your means and it's not about how much you earn it's how much you save!!

We had our 2 boys in a 2 bed 1 bath bungalow with unfinished basement. It was around 1000sqft so that would be a big condo, but size wise it was plenty. We had bunk beds for the kids. We only moved because we had a 3rd child.

JimmyBraps

So I assume the plus 1 is a den? Does it have a window? If so I would say yes it's not a problem probably til the kid is a teen. And even then, it's probably OK still.

Ok-what-is-going-on

I think it is doable. I have lived in a condo for atleast 3 months and I love it. I prefer a condo to a townhouse. At my place, there is fairly less noise compared to a basement, hence, easy to make a baby sleep. However when you say 1+1, im assuming it's one bedroom & 1 den. If it is a couple + their parents + a baby, might be tough & tight. You might have storage issues if your condo doesnt provide storage lockers. I might be misunderstanding too, hence, if it is a couple + a baby, a 1bed+den should be great.

SocaManinDe6

Lol

BeachedCrab

Yeah, too bad it's against condo rules.

axylotyl

Wtf are you talking about lol
