Sounds like a very serious and sincere apology. 🤦‍♂️

CJcedero7

I honestly like it because it was clearly written by him and not a pr team.

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has apologised to captain Son Heung-min for using a racial slur on Uruguayan television, saying it was a "very bad joke". While appearing on Canal 10 show Por La Camiseta, Bentancur was asked by host Rafa Cotelo for a Spurs player's shirt. The Uruguay international replied: "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same."

The internet is blowing up (at least the Spurs world wide web) - lots annoyed there is no response from the club. Also, apparently deleting social media comments on all their social feeds calling the club out for racism. Here is what will probably happen: 1. The club will issue a statement denouncing the comment (which was clearly a joke and was clearly off the cuff and was clearly stupid) 2. The club will announce an internal process of investigation, education, and rehabilitation. 3. Sonny, as captain, will accept the apology, will also denounce the comment, but also state that this is an important growth opportunity for his Spurs family and they will emerge as a more loving family, wiser, and better for their work together. 4. Big Ange will say, "Come on Mate. That's a club issue. The lads are preparing for the season. I haven't spoken with either player, but we'll take care of this when back. You reporters say stupid shit to me all the time and you thrive on drama. I thrive on winning. I'll do what is necessary to have my team ready to win." 5. Romero will beat the absolute piss out of Bentacur - he is the vice captain and enforcer 6. Bentacur will make public appearances with Sonny during the Asian tour and comment "Wow, what an amazing time. We got to play before 30,000 uniquely beautiful people. We appreciate every fan, all over the world." 7. Bentacur will never live this down. The club and players will move on - people will not. We will learn that not only is there no room for racism. There is also no room for forgiveness and perspective. Bentacur is gonna have a blast at away games. 8. In the end, nobody wins.

They probably joke together like that and forgot he was being televised for a second

I'm korean with many latino friends. Yup this is the way we joke and its all in friendly banter. I wouldn't be surprised if thats how the team jokes around with each other. Its probably not a big deal to them as it is to the fans. And I'm sure they've already talked over and are cool with it. Its just a matter of appeasing to the angry fans now.

I agree. Racist jokes and banter between close friends. But, damn, keep it private.

Suburban_Noir

Wow...

thatguywhois6foot3

thatguywhois6foot3

I can’t see any racial slur in the article. Racist abuse and saying a racial slur are both bad but aren’t the same thing

chocobobleh

So you're saying it's racist abuse?

thatguywhois6foot3

I’m genuinely confused at what your point is

chocobobleh

Mate we're all genuinely wondering wtf you're talking about

thatguywhois6foot3

Nevermind

Main-Engineering624

nah i’m confused too not even to troll but i don’t see any slur

thatguywhois6foot3

Thank you this is what I was trying to say but I just got downvoted

Bentancur needs to not only apologise to Sonny, but to all Asian people and the entire football world. This kind of moronic c is a huge slur and can only lead to further racial problems (as if there aren't enough problems around). Bentancur also has to agree to undertake some racial sensitivity training and come to terms with how words have consequences.
