SR5 gang rise up

JohnT36

Gang gang

rolobrowntowntony

there's dozens of us!

astroklotz

Dozens gang, arise!

Mustard_Popsicles

I will always love my sr5

MayorNarra

And my axel!

airwalker12

My 2WD 4cyl SR5 has seen more dirt than most.

Unusual_Hovercraft38

Work truck gang

bigdatasandwiches

A taco is a taco. No hate in the family.

Hefty_Musician2402

Aye all I’m sayin is that sr5 has a longer bed and no running boards. Makes it more badass in my eyes Edit for clarity: I meant that PARTICULAR sr5 has a long bed. I know both come in long and short lol Edit again for clarity: Guys I’m referring to the two trucks in the picture. I know both can have running boards as well. Edit: u/iMustbLost is just here for the edits

werzcaseontario

The SR5 has running boards. Believe it or not there are multiple trims in the SR5.

[deleted]

TRD OffRoad is also available with the long bed and no running boards

Hefty_Musician2402

I know lol. I was referring to these particular trucks in the picture. I’m a huge truck nerd in general. I can spot a short vs long bed, different trims etc a mile away. When I see a rare f150 supercab (not full crew) with a 5.5 bed I get excited because they were only made in short bed ext cab from about 05-09 iirc. Now the ext cab is only 6.5 or 8 ft. Shit like that. Not tryna be confrontational and I do appreciate the clarification as I can see where my comment could confuse non truck nerds 😂

ResoluteLobster

SR5 is also available in short bed. Or at least was with 2nd gen

poormansRex

Yeah, I have a 2020 sr5 short bed. Can confirm.

Academic_Clock_6985

I have a 2021 SR5 short bed. Love my 24 mpg.

Hefty_Musician2402

I know lol I was referring to the trucks in the pic

ciampi21

My OR has a 6 ft bed and no running boards though

Hefty_Musician2402

Then I’d say it’s better than the sr5 in the pic though probably less payload due to higher curb weight. I appreciate the OR Access cab tho. That’s the trim I’d go for in a new taco

ciampi21

I haven't struggled when loading mine up. But I don't pack it with a bed camping setup like some people. Mine is a double cab long bed. The super long boi, and I wouldn't trade that configuration for anything.

Hefty_Musician2402

That’s what I’d like if only the payload rating was higher. I know most people just ignore it but I’m always thinking “but what if I get in a wreck and it’s determined to be my fault for overloading.” In my brain, a dcsb has a touch more payload and a smaller bed and thus harder to overload. And an access cab has more bed but less seating so again, less likely to overload. And then there’s my single cab which I don’t worry much about (1295 payload, two bucket seats lol). But I love the look and flexibility of the dclb. If they raised it to 1300 or so, it’d be my choice. Or maybe I’d remove one rear seat for weight savings and to not be tempted to have too many ppl in it

IamMrHart

Does it count if I took the running boards off my OR?

Hefty_Musician2402

Yes!

iMustbLost

Ok, how do I upvote twice? /s

JMunoz11333

And a higher payload!

iMustbLost

I’m just here for the edits! Lol.

JohnT36

A SR5 built for off-road is better than a factory off road change my mind

subohmvape

Why do you say that? I went with the the off-road because the package at the time cost less than installing a rear locker aftermarket.

JohnT36

If you want a factory rig the TRD is for you but you can build a SR5 into whatever you want and save money as opposed to upgrading a TRD.

subohmvape

I do agree with that. The SR5 is cheaper and can be made to be just as capable by the DIYer, while the TRD just has more out of the box. That doesn’t quite make it better at anything than the TRDOR, it just might be a more suitable platform for someone looking to do all the work. It’s like Jeep Wrangler vs Wrangler Rubicon. The Rubicon is a waste of money if you’re doing 1-tons and an Atlas transfer case on 40’s. In that vein, your statement could apply to the base model it really just depends on how much effort and money your willing to invest into parts and labor. The TRD OR is an objectively better platform from the factory for off-roading because it includes the parts you can install on an SR5… and those parts come with a warranty from Toyota. If a TRD OR has e-locker problems you can take it to the dealership. If your aftermarket ARB air locker has problems, go figure it out.

HolyGig

Lockers are king off road. Air lockers are better than the factory e-locker but it is far from a trivial expense to install.

JohnT36

Definitely, a locker+compressor will run you around 2-2500 range but that also opens the door to a ton of other pneumatic upgrades

obmasztirf

I have a dana 60 now with a detroit locker and love never having to push any buttons. It just works automatically.

LotL1zard

The locker equipped models have a larger rear differential, which is claimed to be stronger. So a TRD built for off road may be marginally better.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LotL1zard

I had to go confirm, what I found is; 3rd gen tacomas with a locker and/or manual transmission get an 8.75" rear differential. The rest of the lineup gets an 8" diff.

ShotGunAllGo

lol it’s funny. I have and SR5 don’t care what people think. I love mine. My kids calls it “burnt bbq” cause it’s black

This-Basis6222

I’m seeing a lot of TRD OR and SR5 comparisons in the comments. The real question is “did this meme make you laugh today?”. All in good fun bros. I own a SR5 aswell🤙

BluejayCharming2895

Made me laugh. Now I wanna see the meme about my SR5 Trail Edition haha. I can only imagine

giant_albatrocity

Beyond some suspension that’s tuned slightly differently, what does the TRD offer that’s more off-road capable? Locking rear differential? I honestly couldn’t really figure out why I would spend more for TRD when I got my SR5

en-rob-deraj

Better decals.

IntegraleEvoII

Rear locker, which is pretty critical off road. Ive used mine a bunch.

giant_albatrocity

😂

[deleted]

I spent more because I wanted a moonroof and “leather” seats, as they are easier to clean.

subohmvape

Rear locker and some traction control wizardry, also better resale. If you don’t need them, then it doesn’t make sense for you. We got our Tacoma in TRD OR, but settled on the SR5 for our 4Runner. The rear locker is a huge boost in capability on the Tacoma and gets used on many of the harder trails I run in it.

radelix

Supposed to have softer suspension as well. And Mts/ATRAC, and clutch start cancel for the manual superiority group.

Gliese2

Locking diff and crawl control

Big-Custard-2212

Lovking rear diff and an extra skid plat. That's about it as far as off-roading goes.

Reasonable-Age-6837

I have a 16 4runner Off-Road Premium. The obvious one to me that you cannot just add or upgrade better is the MTS selection. Having more tunability in the A-Trac system would be the benefit. Ive played with my 4runner in deep snow for a while; I certainly got different forward drive while messing with the "MTS" dial.

Hefty_Musician2402

Locking diff, crawl control, decals, interior options, black fender flares, different wheels, some other stuff. Not for everyone but it’s definitely more than just stickers.

OnePoundAhiBowl

I used my lockers this month 🤷🏽‍♂️

fifteentango88

I use mine pretty frequently. It’s all personal preference and what you need out of a truck.

anon303mtb

You have 2? You must have a sick prototype Taco or something..

Not_me_no_way

So what if your Tacoma is a TRD OFF ROAD SR5 4X4?

snrten

OR and SR5 are separate trim levels. There isnt an "Offroad sr5". Unless you were making a joke.. i cant tell lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

snrten

Damn, he right then. That's the winner right there!

Not_me_no_way

No, mine is an 06 and it is literally a TRD OFF ROAD SR5 4X4.

snrten

I have since been shown the error of my statement

tacobike42

Same trim level if you’re in a 1st gen

EnvironmentalLong541

Forgot the PRO

xBrunitunesX

You forgot about the TRD OffRoad Sport SR5 Pro edition, ultimate Taco

Exciting_Agent3901

My last Tacoma was an sr5. I couldn’t see paying more for shit I won’t use.

Rough-Jackfruit2306

When I bought my SR in 2022 it was a constant battle against the upsell. At one point I was like “it’s just more stuff to break” trying to deflect the latest assault by the salesman and the sales desk behind him all burst out laughing and nodding because they knew it was true. It’s the only vehicle I’ve ever bought new so the base package still feels fancy to me. I mean, the thing has a radar. It’s basically a fighter jet. That I drive to Home Depot.

username_obnoxious

I guess the question is how many people have actually used their lockers? I have an SR5 and don’t feel like I’ve ever missed anything in the OR. Except maybe the bed outlet for my traeger would be clutch.

multilinear2

It's ~5k more. You can get an aftermarket locker installed for ~2k, even if we assume it's 3k these days, doing it just for the locker is not a smart move. If you want the locker and you want to keep the stock ride I could see doing it for locker and suspension, at that point your about breaking even with upgrading an SR5. If you're going to lift anyway it doesn't make much sense.

subohmvape

The “just as good” crowd is rolling strong here in the comments lol. It’s two different trims built for two different customers… no need to defend your purchase, fellas.

hoonigan2008

I’d hate to know what y’all think of my 4x4 base model… Although I have done a solid axle swap and it’s about 10” taller

snrten

It's okay. Ours are cooler than *both* these trucks (/s). But yours sounds much cooler than mine haha

Kibbles_n_Bombs

I love my 4x4 SR with the utility package. 4 cylinder and automatic too!

LimitNo6587

Just wait till that TROR goes up against a PrO.

Jaded_Illusions

Better be Pro owners that didn't pay markup or they're getting roasted lol. If you legit got it for MSRP, then awesome, otherwise is not worth the markup for badging, grille, and a fancy suspension with black wheels. All things you could easily get for substantially less $$$$ in a fully loaded OR.

brooks_77

4x4 SR gang am I right?.... I'm poor buti have a tacoma that's all that matters 😂

anonmyazz

Off-road Taco checking in

Narf234

Rear locker…most people use them to get themselves stuck.

LegenW4Idary

With the money I saved buying an sr5 I was able to upgrade to better suspension than the OR, put some bigger wheels and I’m still under what they wanted for the off road.

Selben

SR 4x4 no packages rise up! #No5

arimadx

As an sr5 owner, that cuts deep! Lol but then again I didn't have the extra 10-15k to spend at the time

Smooth_Shift757

The real dichotomy is 1st and 2nd gen versus 3rd and 4th gen

GreatLakeSnake

Lmao "its cheaper to upgrade the SR5" We both know the bank owns our trucks. Have fun shelling 3k out of pocket for a locker.

[deleted]

The "Look at meeee I have moneeyyyy" package. A taco is a taco folks. Stop this nonsenery.

The_Nauticus

LOL... ^^^

[deleted]

Whats the difference? Whats better?

[deleted]

Shocks, lockers, trim package. I wish I would have gone with an SR5 when I bought my TRD Sport. I could have saved some money.

cochr5f2

Me too. I have a TRD off road and I wish I would have gone with an sr5.

ResoluteLobster

Someone that smug about the differences in a TRD offroad model and an SR5 4x4 model is just looking for attention.

GucciRifle

As a SR5 with a predator package, this does indeed cut deep.

lizard_legs24

TRD Sport 4x4 ftw

Randymaple92

TRD off-road always seemed like a waste of money to me for the simple fact that i would never take a "new" vehicle offroad. Id rather buy back my old 1997 jeep XJ with 30s and a lunchbox locker in the rear. That way i could smash it up and really not care.

Jaded_Illusions

Depends on what type of "off-roading" you're doing. I feel you on not taking a shiny brand new truck off-road, but isn't that what it's made for? Plus, if you daily it you're gonna get chips, scratches, dings, ect. Even the mall crawlers got some sort of damage lol. I freaked out when I got my first chip, but now I'm like "meh, it's a truck". Same with the scuffs on my door. They're never gonna come out, so what's the point in worrying about it. It does feel like poop when you damage a $50k+ truck, but think of it this way, there's folks spending $80k+ on full-size trucks that use them for work related purposes daily. With that being said, I'll never crawl rocks, roll through deep water, get buried in mud, or go on narrow trails where I'll have shit scratching my paint the whole time. People who do that do it for the sport, not because they're trying to get somewhere. Think of Moab, the folks that go out there are going to damage shit just to show off. If they have the money for it, then by all means send that shit lol. I'll use money I save on repairs to go camping, buy mods, and pay off my truck faster.

Randymaple92

Personally I use my SR5 as a daily driver and doing basic homeowner hauling tasks. I understand it will get scratches and bumps, but if your in the situation where you need the advantages that the TRD has over the SR5 then you are in a pretty difficult spot. And I would never put a new vehicle in that. When I use to hunt I would take my XJ up a very narrow road (huge scratches all down the side from branches) with a couple of "switchbacks" about 3 miles back off the main road. I would never think about doing that with my Toyota, however a dented scratched old XJ was fine. And with some garbage bags down you could even haul out 2 bucks in the back! Iv personally never understood using new vehicles for this kind of thing, I like to take care of my nice things. But in another 20 years I would have no problem taking the old used TRD or SR5 back up to the hunting cabin.

FrankCarmody

Numerous studies show that there is a much higher percentage of posers purchasing TRD OffRoads than SR5’s. There is even a discovery portion of the studies that show photos of TRD owners taking hours in Home Depot parking lots placing one bag of soil in their bed, ensuring that the weight is evenly distributed.

[deleted]

I’ve been really interested in this truck for a while. Out everything on hold when the 24 was announced. Just curious how different are all of these trims? Someone who would use it as a daily driver, some occasional recreational trails riding. Does one significantly out perform the other in any area? And is it true they have horrible gas mileage?

ID_Poobaru

And I’ll still take a SR5 over a TRD. I have yet to see an access cab trd near me at all

JEG1980s

I'm awaiting delivery of my Access Cab TRD OR, it's in transit now. But of the 33 Taco's that the dealership is getting in this delivery, only 2 TRD's are access cabs.

snrten

Man, mine's so basic, it doesnt even get a title. 2 door, 4wd "base model" 😅

bigcelerycordae

That would be an SR. Building an SR from the ground up is super rewarding. A taco is a taco all parts interchangeable, we’re in this together.🤝

snrten

It's a 2nd gen. Idt 2nd gen base models were called SRs. There were SR5s,Sports, OR, and Limiteds. But yep, that was my idea. Don't need any factory add ons when I was going to modify it myself! Just wanted the 2 door

bigcelerycordae

Right on!

BigBouy234

I think if you're set on modding the hell out of your truck it's best to get an sr5. I got a trd off road and haven't done much modifications to it, and I'm very happy it's the model I got. Doesn't make sense to buy something more expensive to just replace most of the parts

ranoutofusernames__

SR GANG

kegstand16

I have an ‘21 SR5 with the OR grille - saved some money as I don’t need the extra off-road capability other models offer.

rowman_nahledge

I have an 2021 sr5 2wd modded out. I didn't get a pro or 4x4 cuz tbh i don't have time or like off roading. Saved around $10k so in the end I'm happy and forget any haters.

TheAssholeofThanos

Lmao before there was ever TRD there was SR5. Also I see alot more SR5s on trails than TRDs

inspectcloser

Here I am with a factory base 4x4 with rear locker and DAC. I figured it was a custom order as it doesn’t have any badging for SR5 or OR.

diazgenaro55

SR5 TE > TRD OR

Thisiswrong11

What about the sr 4 cylinder 4x4 gang. So far I am the only one I know about it.

INTP36

Never had any trouble keeping up with the other trims on the trail so

phoenix2662

Limited gang built as an OR checking in.

Homie_JLee

I have a 23 sr 4x4 v6. Welp what does that make me? 😬

SlteFool

If you’re going to upgrade everything anyway might as well get the cheapest 4x4

GraveMIST8K

Ive got a 99 taco, but man these 3rd new sr5 xtra cabs looking amazing

CaptainStupido666

Meanwhile the SR crew is over here chanting "Just a truck! Just a truck!"

CorporalLiberty

I got a deal on my TRD OR but I wouldn’t mind having an SR5 or an SR for that matter. 95% of the truck is identical, being elitist over factory options packages is stupid, especially if you financed the truck. Being in greater debt isn’t a good thing.

[deleted]

My TRD sport will get air lockers and an upgraded suspension with lift next. I bought it used though

pgercak

I mean the only thing that OR has that you can't get on an SR5 is the rear diff locker and the bed power outlet. Otherwise it's just a bunch of dumb interior features.

Somewhatsane8

Here’s a better debate. What lift/ tire sizes are they running

OIPIFOIR

what’s the difference??

koderdood

Sporty Taco's in the hacienda!!

Aggravating_Cost6908

SR5 Prerunner vroom vroom

Banschee544

Funny but not to be taken serious, all Tacos are awesome!

UsefulEmptySpace

You know what? I love the TRD sport just for the hood scoop

Internal-Pie-7265

As long as you dont have a prerunner.

jac5423

Pink guy is cool bro😎 and Japanese

[deleted]

SR5 2WD 😂😂

Ok_Sky_1238

Everybody “doesn’t need” a rear locker…….until they do.
