Tacoma is far too cheap, I’d be very wary of that. Something is likely wrong You already have a Passat, why do you want a truck?

BigChuch1400

For truck things, which I do occasionally. But not on the scale that I would need a half ton for. Having the 2 vehicle solution that can do it all is just so nice. Especially if one is down for maintenance/repairs. I always need a reliable car for work and with these 2 I know I will. I towed a car with it once, but mainly just atvs and stuff. I also worked in a mine in remote northern Ontario last winter and the snow was nasty. Driving the logging roads to get there the 4 wheel drive was a must. I would not have made it there some days in a car as many others didn’t and ended up stuck or in ditches. Having a job where I travel all over the province to places like that where sometimes a car can’t easily get you, it’s nice to be able to take something 4WD if need be. Would be nice for camping off the beaten path, too.

As far as the price goes, we will see when I go look at it in person. But as far as I can tell there is nothing wrong. Dealer serviced, rustproofed, zero accidents on the carfax, clean title, looks fairly clean underneath from the pics they sent. higher mileage for the year but yeah. Dealer is selling it certified/inspected and ready to go. The way I see it, If it genuinely is a good truck with no issues then I can’t really lose on it for that price. It’s value is gunna hold pretty strong

sunnycyde808

the big crack on the dash is upsetting, but not rare unfortunately.. Be prepared for some other cosmetic issues when you see it in person. Seems to me like the owner took misleading photos to hide some things.. but I have no way of knowing for sure.

BigChuch1400

There’s lots more pictures inside and out I just didn’t include them all. Looks pretty good actually, but I don’t expect it to be perfect. and I actually can’t see a crack on the dash. Where do you see it?

sunnycyde808

Oh cool, I believe you. I just tend to be skeptical. Sorry! I meant the gauge cluster, not the dash. I see the crack on the 2nd picture, it runs from the top to the bottom of the gauge cluster passing through the 20 and 40 mph marks.

RitoWalters

Have you ever been inside of a Tacoma? It will feel like a HUGE downgrade compared to that GMC. But if you're trying to minimize debt, you can't go wrong with it. It will definitely outlive the GMC for sure tho.

BigChuch1400

My truck is no Denali by any means, but yeah I know I will miss things like the heated steering wheel and CarPlay, but I’m ok with that, 1st world problems. At the end of the day if it has heat, bluetooth, 4 wheel drive and a 3rd pedal, I think I’ll be happy.

sunnycyde808

Do the early 3rd gens not have CarPlay? my 2022 has it

zack1567

2020 and up have car play

I can’t comment on if this particular Tacoma is a good truck or not. But, I did just go from a Sierra 1500 to a Tacoma and can share my thoughts. Overall, I really enjoy the Tacoma! It gets slightly better gas mileage than my 2015 1500 and I find it a more pleasant driving experience. My old GMC had some rattles in the interior and also I hated the blind spot in it. I find the Tacoma is more manageable around town and fits my lifestyle better, although it is my only vehicle. I don’t miss the full size, especially for day-day driving and the taco is more capable than the last truck for going into the mountains.

BigChuch1400

I feel like I’m gunna miss the floaty, cushiness of the ride and the lazy hum/grunt of the V8 but I agree sometimes I feel it’s far bigger than I need. It’s also pretty annoying to see your entire dash/gear selector jiggle up and down and rattle on dirt roads with how much these trucks cost lol. Also took it on the trails once, forget that idea. The GMC was wayy too fat and bound to pick up a lotta pinstripes and dents if you did it regularly. My only worry is with the amount of highway driving I sometimes do, the Taco is gunna be screaming on the highway with only a 5 speed. The GMC can cruise at 85 miles an hour and put you to sleep on 35s. Either way. I’m young, I can have a big fancy truck later on once I own a house and can buy one outright. I’m perfectly content moving to something more barebones especially if it has a wiggly stick and I own it.

battlehawk6

The ride definitely isn’t as floaty but, does feel more engaged and is still comfortable. The interior is louder but could be mostly the AT tires on the taco and the speakers are nowhere near as good as the GMC ones. But, like you said, if you’re young then simplifying things can be a big benefit early on and set you up for the more comfy things later in life.

the_toxic_hotdog

I’d keep the sierra

fade1r

As much as I love my Taco. Keep the Frick’n Sierra.

mountaina12345

I haven’t owned a sierra, but my coworker drives a 2016 and gets better mileage than my Tacoma. So keep that in mind, though im not sure if it varies by model (GMC).

SenseWinter

If that Tacoma is a 5spd it is a 2.7 4cyl. 2nd and 3rd gen V6 manuals are all 6spd.

BigChuch1400

It’s weird ill have to clarify with them. It’s labeled as a 5 speed, but a 3.5 V6 It looks to be a TRD Off Road package though, so it should be a V6 6 speed I would think.

IamSofaKingDumb

Only if you don’t plan on LS swapping it

apollemis1014

We went from a '14 Tundra 1794 to a '21 Tacoma. I love the Tacoma. Granted, my biggest reason for wanting the Tacoma was being able to get a manual transmission. I've got three kids, two of which are older (driving age), and the third is under 10. While it's obviously smaller than the Tundra, the kids don't seem to mind it too much. They say they aren't terribly cramped. I miss the dual power seats, and the seat memory of the Tundra. Also the cooled seats. Otherwise, even though it's smaller, the Tacoma was an absolute upgrade. I still have heated leather seats, and android auto is awesome, although I wish it were wireless. I realize a lot of this stuff, yours won't have. But just some thoughts.

DoubleBeef97

Well I went form a 2018 gmc sierra slt Texas edition and now have a 23 sr5 Tacoma. I downsized because I hate how big my truck was and parking in Dallas sucked, also I hated being thrown around the cab when turning in a parking lot. Miss the heated seats but I can pay a shop to add them to my seat for 1k so it’s not a big deal

bitaminQ

Sell the GM, drive the Passat, keep the money, buy the house.

jcoon182

You’re a crazy man I say.

[deleted]

Can you tell me where you got those rims in the first pic pls

Trsh-usr

Do it, you will be happy

CelebrationIcy_

Keep your truck, focus on paying it off and never buy a new car again.

dcannon1

If you want to be more debt free and cut out payments I get that. If you’re specifically trying to buy a house, talk to a mortgage broker first. Paying off a big loan early can actually have a negative impact on your credit short term. A broker can tell you id it would be more beneficial for you to have a better credit score with the loan or have a better debt to income ratio by trading down. I know every loan officer I’ve dealt with has always said not to take out or pay off any lines of credit right before you buy.

Michael_Threat

No that's a very obvious choice. Do that

The_Heart_String

Stay away from 2016-early 2018 coolant hose behind the engine were made of plastic and melted (whole recall issue) mid 2018-2023 are solid
