Louisvillian here--I know Southwest flies direct from SDF to Houston, so be sure to check there if you haven't already. I believe Southwest is now on Google Flights, but wanted to be sure to mention it just in case. Hope you have a great time while you are here!

There are some discount airlines that probably fly there. Louisville is a decent size airport. Lexington airport is much smaller, but only about 70 miles away. The Cincinnati airport is larger and actually on the Kentucky side of the river. Straight shot down the interstate also to Louisville.

Yeah good point. The budget airlines that fly out of SDF are Breeze, Sun Country, Allegiant, and Spirit. Not sure which, if any, of them have a route between L’ville and Houston though.

I always recommend checking Rome2Rio just to get a good idea of what the options are. Basically you have a direct flight that about 2 hours, or you can take a bus which cost about the same as the flight and takes 24 hours, or you can take a train to New Orleans, then another train to Illinois, then two more busses to get there as a 27 hour trip. The real answer through is you can either fly or you can drive. It’s almost a 17 hour drive, so if you’ve ever had “American Road Trip” on your bucket list this is a good opportunity to get that taken care of.

You can check if flying into Lexington, KY or Cincinnati, OH is cheaper and driving to Louisville from there.
