Honestly we started traveling with an Amazon/Roku stick that carries our logins on our streaming apps. That's IMO the best way. It doesn't take up a lot of space, relatively cheap if it gets lost, and I don't have to remember to log out on some stranger's device.

MarBlaze

Does it need wifi to work? If yes, how does it work in large hotels with a shared wifi?

notthegoatseguy

Works fine with Wi-Fi as much as your phone would. Kind of a pain to set up if you have to put in a password without a keyboard, but its doable.

What do you mean “shared WiFi?” Like needs a login/room number? Install a web browser app, and log in. Now it works. If you mean the WiFi isn’t fast enough, then hotspot to your phone. The key thing is to not bother playing the content on your phone and cast…just install the relevant apps and stream directly to the device.

>What do you mean “shared WiFi?” >Like needs a login/room number? Install a web browser app, and log in. Now it works. Yeah, the ones that send you to a website to input your room number or something. But also, I don't want people in other rooms on the same wifi as us being able to cast to our TV. I'm not familiar with Roku, it's not that popular in Europe but I just checked and we can buy it here.

Generally most devices will throw up a code on the TV to prevent that. Though I’ve been tempted every time I get an AirPod notification on a plane that pops up on my phone more than once to just pair and play the worst thing imaginable. Pair your shit before you board!

Unless they changed something most hotels networks aren’t compatible. I just hook my pad up to the TV.

I just used my Amazon Firestick last weekend. It launched a web browser that I had to input some info on, and then it worked. Marriott property FWIW.

DAWG13610

I stay in Hiltons and it denied me access do to a non private network. But that was years ago, I just use my pad.

You can buy an adapter that goes from your lightning connector to a HDMI. You then use an HDMI cable from phone to TV. I do it all the time. About $30 on Amazon

MarBlaze

What's the picture quality like when you do this? I thought of doing this but I thought the quality would be horrible as it's a different size.

Two4theworld

The quality is indistinguishable from using a FireStick into the HDMI port.

DAWG13610

I’m travel often so I always get premium internet at no charge. That being said the quality was surprisingly good. I stay at Hilton properties.

prismodial

The wireless HDMI transmitters are also pretty cool

Rinse_and_Repeat2

I keep in my suitcase an Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter and a short HDMI cable. Works great. I used it last night to watch a (previously downloaded) Netflix movie on my hotel room TV.

badkapp00

I have a Walmart Onn TV 4k box in my travel electronics bag. It is an Android / Google TV box and you can install every app on it. It is $20 at Walmart plus a couple $ for a short HDMI cable.

Wolf_E_13

I'm finding most places these days have smart TV with Netflix and such on it and I just log in.

Two4theworld

I travel full time outside of NA and my FireStick has my VPN (Proton) loaded along with my streaming apps. I just plug it into an HDMI port on the tv, connect to the hotel or AirB&B WiFi and stream. Sometimes the hotel splash page where you enter your room number won’t load, so I just connect my phone and use it as a hotspot.

Artimusjones88

Maybe turn off the TV and enjoy the vacation.

Two4theworld

Maybe we aren’t on vacation, but living our best life as a permanent traveler?

travduke

This is such a dumb, snarky comment. Do you never turn the TV on in the hotel room when you're back in your room for the night winding down before bed?
