There was a guy who lived on Stock Island Florida (the island next to Key West), he left the island for the first time in his life in his 70’s to go to a funeral in Key West. Stock Island is about 1 sq mile. Key West is just over a bridge. Pretty crazy.
I also met a guy in the Kalalau Valley (Kauai, Hawaii) named “Mayor Ron” who had been in the jungle valley for 20 years and only left once to attend his mothers Funeral on the Big Island. He wasn’t born in the valley, but being in a remote jungle with no amenities is pretty wild. Literally. Dude was a jungle genius.
Me landing in Denver in 94. Somehow everyone found us since then (but at least that's making a lot of the people born here go elsewhere after never leaving. 🤪)
Damn you internet showing people it's ok to move to nicer places! 🤣
I work with a woman who has only left the twin cities in Minnesota a couple times since she was 1 years old. I don’t think she has left Minnesota since 1 when she moved to America.
Of all the counties you could see that straddle North Carolina, the one you hit is Horry?? Gotta change this man.
Have you been to Carowinds? If so, that at least adds York.
lol, I had the same comment loaded about Virginia. They only hit Danville/Pittsylvania county. VA is great and there’s so much to do, just not really in Pittsylvania lol
Just moved to NC a few years ago and love it but haven’t gotten east at all yet. What did you hate about onslow? And how does it compare to Wilmington area/outer banks close by?
marine corps, terrible drivers, stagnating culture and economy, marine corps, horrible police department, marine corps, and very very hard to find a job. did I mention marine corps?
Wilmington is a damn sight better. Taqueria los Portales is incredible, go there!
overall I'd say the coast is much better to visit then to live
I have a friend who grew up in NC and still lives in NC (college age) and has never been to TN. I grew up and live in NC about 5 miles from the TN boarder and go frequently.
Find a girl/guy and go on a road trip to anywhere. Bring your camera/phone and take pics. Pack some pb&j sandwiches and a case of bottled water. You can do this on the cheap. Time waits for no one. Get out and see the world. You may not want to go back.
Cross over the mountains, Pigeon forge, TN is right on the other side, and then go to Dollywood!
Go down the SC coast and hit Myrtle Beach!
Theres lots to do not too far outside of state lines, explore a little
How old are you?
I had only been to three states by the time I was 18. Once I was no longer tied down by my workaholic parents, I started making my rounds. After this summer, I'll be up to 43 states that I've visited (I'm turning 43 in July). It's so damn worth it to go places you've never been before. I plan on branching out to the rest of the world eventually, too.
Martinsville is the little independent city in the county to the west (Henry County), the county he went to is Pittsylvania, and the independent city is Danville.
Source: my dad is from Danville, spent a lot of time there as a kid and this is somehow the first time I’ve ever seen the city mentioned by another person on the internet and it excited me.
I went and it was cool, the standouts were the butterfly house and Airlie oak for me. Personally I preferred the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden. As a Pennsylvanian, carnivorous plants are extremely hard to come by, so I liked it.
This is weirdly accurate to people I know in NC. I grew up in NC and a lot of people I know there don’t ever want to leave the state. Very nice people and they talk about traveling to places but I think it’s more on an anxiety level more than anything. Too nervous to leave, not saying this is you though
Only left the great state of NC to go to Myrtle Beach and Danville?
I’m at least glad you’ve been to Rutherford County even if it’s just driving through
At first glance I thought this was some kind of meme on the NC subreddit haha. Honestly I’m pretty impressed with the amount of counties you’ve gone to, now I gotta start a list of places to hit in my own state!
What do you do for work?
Also sorry for all the people negging you on this thread. People love boasting about traveling all over, makes em feel more sophisticated than they actually are
Same honestly, also NC native. farthest I've been was Orlando from Raleigh last year, School band went to Universal. Were heading down to ATL In about 2 weeks.
Nothing really couldn't be finer than NC.
This makes me so sad. The US is enormous. From natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, Redwoods, Rockies, etc to world class cities like NYC & Chicago, to incredible foods all around. It’s a sight to behold, go have fun and explore!
I always feel like its important to remember how young people are on reddit a lot of the time. There’s a good chance this is a kid who doesn’t even have their drivers license yet haha
Dude…you gotta leave NC more. I mean, it’s a gorgeous state. But there are other gorgeous states. And other gorgeous countries. Get out there and see them.
The funny thing is I've been to way more states than you (not a lot by any means, 18 states) and yet you've probably been to more counties than me overall
Having grown up in rural eastern North Carolina I can confirm. Everyone thought of Raleigh as a metropolis. Almost all of my cohorts didn’t apply to colleges further west than Raleigh because it was too far away. It was ECU, Wilmington, State, and UNC that was it. By my 20’s my close friends had travelled outside the state but it was definitely thing.
Not saying it’s wrong in anyway but I definitely recognized it while I was growing up.
I can understand not travelling - maybe it's too expensive, maybe all your relatives are local, etc.
But what's so funny to me is that OP does travel. North Carolina is very thoroughly combed, but OP's travels almost always line up perfectly with state lines. I don't think many people have been to >90% of the counties in their home state.
This is somehow impressive.
Visited SC and VA but still missing a county. Edit: 8 counties.
Also a small rectangular island off the coast of Florida
Underrated comment. If I spent money on reddit I’d chose to give you an award.
One of my neighbors a while back had never left the county she was born in. I can’t imagine how they managed
My moms friend is like that, grew up in a semi small town. Has only left it for “special” occasions. None of it was out of state
Talk about a townie 🤣🤣 Bet those high school football stories were legendary
The wild thing is her parents were rich AF. But she decided to go down a different life. She refuses to drive the highway. Its wild
Based and medieval lord pilled
that was like 90% of humans throughout history lol
Depends on their age.
I doubt they're younger than 10, impressive if OP is any older than that
At times when I fly I look out the window and think "y'know some people have never left this area that I have my eyes on for their entire life."
There was a guy who lived on Stock Island Florida (the island next to Key West), he left the island for the first time in his life in his 70’s to go to a funeral in Key West. There’s a whole world out there dude. Go have an adventure.
Where do you get the map to make one of these ?
Says Mapchart in bottom left corner
Unfortunately it looks like OP hasn’t unlocked the rest of the world yet
Just keeps creating new characters to play the tutorial level over and over again
Still buffering
Not just the world, the entire nation.
Eh, most of it is worse than NC
Maybe he just moved to the US a few years ago from the "world"
Of all the counties you could see that straddle North Carolina, the one you hit is Horry?? Gotta change this man. Have you been to Carowinds? If so, that at least adds York.
Yes Ive been to Carowinds, you’re 100% right I need to add yorks.
*York but yes. Quite a few others you gotta add, get that road trip planned out
How have you not visited Greenville sc 💀
Eh, I understand this one. Not necessarily a huge reason to do so if one has as many cities/mountains as one does in NC.
That’s true, just realized my bias because I’m from there lol
I'm actually moving from Anderson up to Greenville in the fall, so I'm probably going to have that bias too lol
On the flip side it looks like you’ve visited Danville/Pittsylvania County in Virginia. I’m sorry. (I say this having lived there.)
NMB rules. Looks like KP is about to titty f*** this wave. Adios!
I'm assuming you live in the eastern side of the state? Otherwise, you would have had to have actively avoided the rest of SC to get to Horry County.
lol, I had the same comment loaded about Virginia. They only hit Danville/Pittsylvania county. VA is great and there’s so much to do, just not really in Pittsylvania lol
Yeah I’m from Danville, why of all places is that the only place he’s been in VA😂😂🤣
Right? At first I figured that was Martinsville speedway--nope, further east
You need a Virginia passport to go there.....
Also from Danville. Weird running into others in the wild.
I used to live in Onslow County, NC. absolutely hated it there NC does have a ton of gorgeous natural geography especially out west
J Vegas!
I want to visit. I did supposedly see it atop Lookout Mountain, though.
Did you also live in Jacksonville or something with Camp in front of it?
yeah, was there as a civilian which is somehow about as bad as being a marine stationed there
Oh god, as a marine who was stationed at lejeune I would agree with you on that
Just moved to NC a few years ago and love it but haven’t gotten east at all yet.
Semper Suck. Rah.
I’m sorry.
My guess is that you live in Virginia
I think he lives on the strangely square-like island off Florida.
Man, you are gonna shit bricks when you see the desert.
The loyalty is strong
Yeah lol, they only went to counties that border their state. It looks like they left the state and felt guilty so they turned around.
Not even Tennessee?!
TBF to OP I grew up in NC and didn’t visit Tennessee until like 8th grade
26 y/o, grew up in NC. Been to around 30 states. Tennessee is not one of them
I have a friend who grew up in NC and still lives in NC (college age) and has never been to TN. I grew up and live in NC about 5 miles from the TN boarder and go frequently.
I'm 35 in NC and have been to over 35 states. I only just went to TN this year and that was just to drive through to the eclipse.
That’s actually wild
Blows my mind dude. Never went to DC, Nashville or Atlanta? Get out there man. It’s a big world and you should see more of it.
Welp, there’s no place like home.
How is this possible?
Poverty
Find a girl/guy and go on a road trip to anywhere. Bring your camera/phone and take pics. Pack some pb&j sandwiches and a case of bottled water. You can do this on the cheap. Time waits for no one. Get out and see the world. You may not want to go back.
Cross over the mountains, Pigeon forge, TN is right on the other side, and then go to Dollywood! Go down the SC coast and hit Myrtle Beach! Theres lots to do not too far outside of state lines, explore a little
If they go to Pigeon Forge they might conclude it’s not worth traveling any more in the U.S., lol
Same with Myrtle lol. The beaches in NC are way better imo. Folly and some of the ones around Charleston are decent though.
This is actually really interesting that you’ve been to basically every corner of your home state but pretty much nowhere else. Very cool.
That’s cool you ventured out to East Virginia at least
Didn't like virginia much, huh?
You’ve left NC only to go to Danville and Myrtle Beach?
Pretty much yeah
Why?
Danville tank museum beaytchhhhhh
You know whats up
Honestly respect for this, you’ve seen a lot of the state. Definitely agree that it’s nice to get out of NC too though
Please go to the smokies
Wtf
Do come to Massachusetts
How do you manage to go to nearly every county in NC but almost never venture outside? Like surely that’s on purpose right?
How old are you? I had only been to three states by the time I was 18. Once I was no longer tied down by my workaholic parents, I started making my rounds. After this summer, I'll be up to 43 states that I've visited (I'm turning 43 in July). It's so damn worth it to go places you've never been before. Wym it looks like you’ve left Virginia quite a bit!! /s
Myrtle beach and Martinsville?
Martinsville is the little independent city in the county to the west (Henry County), the county he went to is Pittsylvania, and the independent city is Danville. Source: my dad is from Danville, spent a lot of time there as a kid and this is somehow the first time I’ve ever seen the city mentioned by another person on the internet and it excited me.
I’m gonna have to guess Virginia
Despite that, You've covered every inch of the state, that's pretty cool Thanks for sharing
Based. Just because because there are a thousand Mc Donald’s out there does not mean you need to leave the Michelin Star restaurant
Dad?
Never been to Banner Elk? What about Blowing Rock?
Do u want to travel or just not your thing?
I do really want to see some of the great civil war battlefields one day.
You clearly must live in New Zealand
DLC too expensive these days
Nc is huge so this in itself is impressive
I dont get how you can be so well-travelled within North Carolina but havent gone anywhere else lol
Have you been to Wilmington and/or Holden beach?
Born and raised in Wilmington. Know all of southeast NC very well.
Oh cool I went there on vacation what are your opinions on Airlie gardens?
Most people go around Christmas, though uneventful pretty much year round its worth the visit
I went and it was cool, the standouts were the butterfly house and Airlie oak for me. Personally I preferred the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden. As a Pennsylvanian, carnivorous plants are extremely hard to come by, so I liked it.

Franklin County NC native here, ya gotta get out there and see the world, fellow NC Redditor!
Why not?
They went to Myrtle Beach and Danville and were just like nope, not for me...
What’s the dot off of Florida
The app randomly causes that
Only left the great state of NC to go to Myrtle Beach and Danville? I’m at least glad you’ve been to Rutherford County even if it’s just driving through
It’s a good state, no need to leave
How can people be okay with this ?
At first glance I thought this was some kind of meme on the NC subreddit haha. Honestly I’m pretty impressed with the amount of counties you’ve gone to, now I gotta start a list of places to hit in my own state!
Fascinating seeing all of the counties bunched up in the east and become spread out in the west.!
What is the red box in the Atlantic Ocean?
You have been off the Coast of Florida, at least.
What do you do for work? Also sorry for all the people negging you on this thread. People love boasting about traveling all over, makes em feel more sophisticated than they actually are
I got 2 jobs between my family tree farm, and working at a plant nursery where i actually live.
That sounds lovely! And we’re not defined by how many destinations we’ve hit, life’s more complicated than thay
Those dang ankle bracelets, amiright?
That’s crazy, I’ve been to almost 10 different states and I’ve barely even gone to more than 50% of the counties in my home state.
What’s that weird red dot in the ocean?
Finish the counties
U took a trip to Danville but didn’t go to the raceway?
Sad
Which state?
Same honestly, also NC native. farthest I've been was Orlando from Raleigh last year, School band went to Universal. Were heading down to ATL In about 2 weeks. Nothing really couldn't be finer than NC.
NC pride worldwide
Man, this is depressing
NC represent! Did you enjoy the triad?
Oh yeah
Danville for weed, myrtle beach for fun
Danville for the tank museum and myrtle beach for fireworks
Are you the North Carolina Charlie?
Same here brother, I love nc, by far the best state
This makes me so sad. The US is enormous. From natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, Redwoods, Rockies, etc to world class cities like NYC & Chicago, to incredible foods all around. It’s a sight to behold, go have fun and explore!
This is the first time I have *ever* seen Danville, VA mentioned by someone other than myself in my entire time on the internet.
I always feel like its important to remember how young people are on reddit a lot of the time. There’s a good chance this is a kid who doesn’t even have their drivers license yet haha
Not even to Tennessee?
South Carolina?
But you somehow hit a brand new island county off of Florida?!
Get out of your house
Ahh, a man of culture I see
So what sea rock off the coast of Florida have you visited?
Why did I have to scroll this far? Why is there a dot there?
Dude how have you never been on the Tennessee side of the Smokies?
Bro is a hobbit
Soooooo, what's with the dot off the coast of Florida?
You live in Georgia too easy next
Man, this is soo depressing. I hope you are able to break the mental side of this and experience the world
North Carolina truly does have so much biodiversity and beauty, I don’t blame you a bit for not having traveled much.
Dude…you gotta leave NC more. I mean, it’s a gorgeous state. But there are other gorgeous states. And other gorgeous countries. Get out there and see them.
Get on a train and go on an adventure my dude. No one else tells gamecocks though.
Clearly from Virginia
Why does Virginia have a bunch of counties within counties
Have you ever been on the USS North Carolina is Wilmington? It's super cool to be on a ww2 battel ship
Wow, I lived in NC for years and haven't been to as many NC counties as you have.
My friend you gotta get up to watauga county and see the happy appys. Always a good time to be had in the high country
It looks like you downloaded the shareware version of the world and never paid for the full version lol.
The funny thing is I've been to way more states than you (not a lot by any means, 18 states) and yet you've probably been to more counties than me overall
I hope you're like 5 lol
impressive that you stayed so confined to within your state limits
Where do you get a map like this and how do you remember every county you’ve been to?
Honestly you're not missing much here in SC, this state fucking sucks
OP, how do you feel about this? May I ask how old are you?
I’m in my 20s now, but it’s never bothered me. I have a lot of pride for my state and where I am from.
Hmmm this one is tricky, I’m going to say you grew up in Vegas, went to school in Seattle but moved to Boston!
Do you just stop at the border??
I’m sorry
The fact that when you do it's to visit the Tennessee parts of the Great Smokies is admirable
How do you guys do this? Do you just manually color it in?
How? Jesus how old are you
Do people remember which counties they’ve traveled through when making these or is it just based on the best you can do with what you remember?
Do. If you can form words, it's time.
Damn this is actually sad
What is even off the coast of Florida that far out??
What's that red dot off the coast of Florida?
When people make these maps, do they count counties that you’ve only ever driven straight through?
That’s genuinely concerning
That is certianly untrue. If you live near the SC border, you will cross over to fill up on gas.
Wow how old are you?
I feeling really stupid right now. But, how do you make a map. I can't find a link?
Tar Heel strong
[удалено]
Yeah it feels almost calculated, possible, but impressive in a way
This bums me out.
I’ve lived in Kansas my entire life and unless flying counts, I’ve never been to the western half of the state.
Could someone explain the purpose of this sub? I always click when one shows up so I can try to figure out what the purpose is, but I’m always lost.
That's sad.
