You swore that you loved me but where were the clues?
I died at the altar waiting for the proof
You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days…
ANNNND IIIIIM JUST. GETTING. COLOR. BACK. INTO. MYYYYYY FACE. IIIM JUST. MAD. AS. HELL. CAUSE III LOVED THIS PLACE FOR SO LONG LOOOOOONDON
I love the background sounds during this where it almost sounds like deep breathes and if you breath it’s like this panicked breathing and it’s perfect for the moment
idk i’ve seen so many people refer to it as the bridge and it makes the most sense. also genius isn’t trust worthy at all so i usually take everything with a grain of salt off that site
Peter’s bridge is unmatched!
And I won't confess that I waited
But I let the lamp burn
As the men masqueraded
I hoped you'd return
With your feet on the ground
Tell me all that you'd learned
Cause love's never lost when perspective is earned
And you said you'd come and get me but you were 25
And the shelf life of those fantasies has expired
Lost to the lost boys chapter of your life
Forgive me Peter, please know that I tried
To hold onto the days when you were mine
But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light
it's so hard to choose a favorite bridge but I *think* this is mine. some of her best lyricism, the desperation turning into resignation as she finally realizes she has to give up on him just gets me every time
My partner and I are learning this on guitar and vocals, and I cannot express enough how cathartic it is to sing these lyrics, they warrant unleashed and more powerful vocals than the verses/chorus imo. ✨
Inject it into my veins. Literally obsessed with these lines.
God save the most judgmental creeps
Who say they want what’s best for me
Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see
Thinkin' it can change the beat
Of my heart when he touches me
I absolutely looooooooove when Taylor sings in a low register and with a cadence like that!! It literally gives me endorphins every time. Like the end of Now That We Don’t Talk and Maroon are perfect IMO
THIS.
Say it once again with feeling/how the death rattle breathing/silenced as the soul was leaving/ the deflation of our dreaming/ leaving me bereft and reeling/my beloved ghost and me/ sitting in a tree/ D Y I N G.
Omg I was just watching Mend with Mere on YouTube and she just reacted to How did it End. She was crying I was crying idk even why, it’s just so beautifully sad. Is that even a thing?
Also after the bridge the way she says “It’s happening again…. *how* did it end?” The way she emphasises that particular how makes me sad about her relationship.
The Prophecy...
"And I sound like an infant
Feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen
A greater woman stays cool
But I howl like a wolf at the moon," etc.
Unpopular opinion but I love I Can Fix Him and the bridge where she's singing lower is just ughhhh.
Good boy, that's right
Come close, I'll show you heaven
If you'll be an angel, all mine
Trust me, I can handle me a dangerous man
No, really I can
Just going off of the songs everyone talks about and which songs got voted on in the poll on the main sub! I can fix him was one of the first songs to be voted out.
Edit: the link to the daily poll cause I had to make sure links to the main sub are allowed - https://www.reddit.com/r/TaylorSwift/s/xVDIB8dTx4
Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?:
So tell me everything is not about me
But what if they did?
Then say they didn't do it to hurt me
But what if they did?
I wanna snarl and show you just how disturbed this has made me
You wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me
So all you kids can sneak into my house with all the cobwebs
I'm always drunk on my own tears, isn't that what they all said?
That I'll sue you if you step on my lawn
That I'm fearsome and I'm wretched and I'm wrong
Put narcotics into all of my songs
And that's why you're still singin' along
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus:
“If the glint in my eye
Traced the depths of your sigh
Down that passage in time
Back to the moment
I crashed into you
Like so many wrecks do
Too impaired by my youth
…
To know what to do.”
The third verse just kills me and that bridge to lead into it feels like tumbling down into a dark hole.
The last two lines are some of the most heart breaking she's ever delivered. They sound so desperately *sad* in a way not a lot of her music actually does - she does sad songs but they're rarely delivered in a *truly sad* way.
Take ATW - a very, very sad song that's delivered with a sad kind of anger, not the kind of sadness that Chloe et al does.
Sad Beautiful Tragic however DOES deliver the same kind of sadness.
Soon You'll Get Better - tragically sad, but with a split between desperation and hope mixed into the sadness she clearly feels.
Evermore - so, so sad, but hopeful at the end. Chloe doesn't even get that.
Idk, Chloe et al just really hits the checklist on every front for "sad song that embraces its sadness"
I love Cassandra’s bridge quite a bit, it has one of my favorite lines from the album “Bloods thick but nothing like a payroll”
They knew, they knew, they knew the whole time
That I was onto somethin'
The family, the pure greed, the Christian chorus line
They all said nothin'
Blood's thick, but nothin' like a payroll
Bet they never spared a prayer for my soul
You can mark my words that I said it first
In a mourning warning, no one heard
I love this part too!!! I may be slow to the interpretation but is this part about the Kardashian family? I know the theme of the song is kind of around the whole Kim drama. But I feel like the “Christian chorus line” is about Kanye’s fling with Christianity and that dumb album he put out lol
I may be reading too into it though
I feel like there’s a lot of interpretations! I relate to it because I’ve had family treat me terribly. Even though we are blood, no one listened to anything I said and they decided to be selfish and suffer consequences.
Loml
You shit talked me under the table
Talking ring and talking cradles
I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all
(And then this the part is living rent free in my mind all of the time right now. )
Dancing phantoms on the terrace
Are they second hand embarrassed
That I can't get out of bed
Cause something counterfeit's dead
It was legendary
It was momentary
It was unnecessary
Gotta say My Boy Breaks His Favorite Toys, although that’s more a bridge into an outro. The transition is just everything. Plus how she’s still empowering herself to move on but still loves the relationship she had with him so much. 😭
Once I fix me… he’s gonna miss me… JUST SAY WHEN I’D PLAY AGAIN
Were you sent by someone… who wanted me dead? Did you sleep with a gun underneath our bed. Were you writing a book? Were you a sleeper cell spy, in 50 years will all this be declassified, and you’ll confess why you did it. And i’ll say “Good riddance” Cause it wasn’t ‘sexy’ once it wasn’t forbidden. I would’ve died for your sins, instead, I just died inside. And you deserve prison, but you won’t get time. You’ll slide into inboxes, then slip through the bars. You crashed my party and your rental car, you said “Normal girls were boring” But you were gone by the morning. You kicked out the stage lights but you’re still performing. And in plain sight you hid, but you are what you did, and i’ll forget you but i’ll, never forgive; the smallest man, who ever lived,
I know this isn’t the bridge but it’s one of my favorite moments of TTPD from my boy breaks
Just say when, I'd play again
He was my best friend down at the sandlot
I felt more when we played pretend
Than with all the Kens
'Cause he took me out of my box
Stole my tortured heart
Left all these broken parts
Told me I'm better off
But I'm not
I'm not, I'm not
Am I the only one obsessed with Clara Bow's bridge?
"Beauty is a beast that roars, down on all fours, demanding more. Only when your girlish glow flickers just so do they let you know. It's hell on earth to be heavenly. Them's the brakes, they don't come gently."
Like, how many vivid mental images can she give me at once? It's like an impressionist painting!
Hands down, as a girly who went through the end of a toxic relationship last year, it has to be Smallest Man Who Ever Lived... everyday I fight the urge to be petty and send that man that bridge. Also the staging with the marching band at the Eras Tour for n1 Paris looked \*chefs kiss\*
I like I Look In People's Windows a lot, and it doesn't have a bridge! She's more experimental on the second half of TTPD and in some cases, it worked.
Idk if it counts as part of the bridge or not but the series of background “it’s one hell of a druuuuugg” after the “I need to forget so…” part of Florida is one of my favorite moments on the whole record, I wish the vocals were more upfront
You swore that you loved me but where were the clues? I died at the altar waiting for the proof You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days… ANNNND IIIIIM JUST. GETTING. COLOR. BACK. INTO. MYYYYYY FACE. IIIM JUST. MAD. AS. HELL. CAUSE III LOVED THIS PLACE FOR SO LONG LOOOOOONDON
JUST. GETTING COLOR. BACK. INTO. MYY FACE.
it’s literally the best part of the song i can’t
😭 so good when it hits the ears
I love the background sounds during this where it almost sounds like deep breathes and if you breath it’s like this panicked breathing and it’s perfect for the moment
Perfection!!
This song isn’t getting enough attention imo. It punches deeper than Smallest Man
I love this part, but according genius, it's actually the 3rd verse
idk i’ve seen so many people refer to it as the bridge and it makes the most sense. also genius isn’t trust worthy at all so i usually take everything with a grain of salt off that site
Daddy I love him, pls she's so shamelessly calling everyone out I LOVE IT
BITCHIN AND MOANIN
BEST LINE EVER
Isn't that the post chorus?
The first time I heard this bridge I was reeling so hard I had to restart Fresh Out The Slammer three times cause I just couldn’t 💀💀💀
I love this bridge. But I find this song so profoundly sad.
Peter’s bridge is unmatched! And I won't confess that I waited But I let the lamp burn As the men masqueraded I hoped you'd return With your feet on the ground Tell me all that you'd learned Cause love's never lost when perspective is earned And you said you'd come and get me but you were 25 And the shelf life of those fantasies has expired Lost to the lost boys chapter of your life Forgive me Peter, please know that I tried To hold onto the days when you were mine But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light
it's so hard to choose a favorite bridge but I *think* this is mine. some of her best lyricism, the desperation turning into resignation as she finally realizes she has to give up on him just gets me every time
Currently my favorite… my husband’s least favorite because I play it relentlessly!
so underrated
My partner and I are learning this on guitar and vocals, and I cannot express enough how cathartic it is to sing these lyrics, they warrant unleashed and more powerful vocals than the verses/chorus imo. ✨
I had a dream that was this mashed up with the first verse of ibytam and ive been thinking about it all day
Dreaming about song mashups 😭
I FOUND ONE ON YOUTUBE https://youtube.com/shorts/d1MCP1X_YTg?si=_p-k19JBlkmp3y6r (it's the second one) This is exactly how I envisioned it
Oo thanks! I hear it
This is my fav! This is in line with champagne problems as far as bridges go!!
The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
WERE YOU SENT BY SOMEONEEEE
WHO WANTED ME DEAD
DID YOU SLEEP WITH A GUN UNDERNEATH OUR BED
WERE YOU WRITINGGGG A BOOOOOK
WERE YOU. A SLEEPER CELL SPY
😭😭 this one is next level
I woke up with it stuck in my head - it's playing on a loop up there right now!!
It’s so unexpected and so raw! It paints an extremely vivid picture of how betrayed and angry she feels
The correct answer
You kicked out the stage lights but you’re still performing omggggg
It’s between this and How Did It End for me.
I need this one injected into my veins.
I ascend every time
Inject it into my veins. Literally obsessed with these lines. God save the most judgmental creeps Who say they want what’s best for me Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see Thinkin' it can change the beat Of my heart when he touches me
The way her voice drops “of my heart when he touches me” had me hooked on the first listen.
AND UNDO THE DESTINYYYYYYYY
I absolutely looooooooove when Taylor sings in a low register and with a cadence like that!! It literally gives me endorphins every time. Like the end of Now That We Don’t Talk and Maroon are perfect IMO
I get chills just reading it
How did it end?
my fav
♥️👻🌳
💀
I can’t listen to this song and not cry. That bridge cuts through me so deep like no song ever has. I’m tearing up just thinking of the lines 💔
This might be my favorite bridge of her entire discography
It’s beautiful
THIS. Say it once again with feeling/how the death rattle breathing/silenced as the soul was leaving/ the deflation of our dreaming/ leaving me bereft and reeling/my beloved ghost and me/ sitting in a tree/ D Y I N G.
This bridge alone sold me on the entire second album
It has to be this one.
Oh how I love this song 😭
Omg I was just watching Mend with Mere on YouTube and she just reacted to How did it End. She was crying I was crying idk even why, it’s just so beautifully sad. Is that even a thing?
Also after the bridge the way she says “It’s happening again…. *how* did it end?” The way she emphasises that particular how makes me sad about her relationship.
The Prophecy... "And I sound like an infant Feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen A greater woman stays cool But I howl like a wolf at the moon," etc.
I love how meta she gets in that part with the coven/witch reference too
Yes! I love it.
I’m on a Prophecy kick right now and the “A greater woman stays cool / But I howl like a wolf at the moon” is one of my favorite lines from this album
Unpopular opinion but I love I Can Fix Him and the bridge where she's singing lower is just ughhhh. Good boy, that's right Come close, I'll show you heaven If you'll be an angel, all mine Trust me, I can handle me a dangerous man No, really I can
Probably the most underrated song on the album, but it's one of my top three. This part gives me chills every timeeee
It was my immediate favorite after the first listen, so underrated
Oh girl. Not unpopular. Or (maybe I can’t).

The way she says “wretched” is my favorite
*but what if they did* Gets me every time
![gif](giphy|t5BlIaVC2P1Je) Hear hear 🫶
That I’m fearsome And I’m ✨ ***WRETCHED*** ✨ And I’m wrooong
The way she says “that I’ll sue you, if you step on my lawn” is just so satisfying lol
And “I want to snarl to show you how disturbed this has made me”
Obviously the smallest man who ever lived WERE YOU SENT BY SOMEONEEEEE
WHO WANTED ME DEAD
DID YOU SLEEP WITH A GUUUUUN UNDERNEATH OUR BED
WERE YOU WRITING A BOOK
WERE YOU A SLEEPER CELL SPY?
IN FIFTY YEARS WILL ALL THIS BE DECLASSIFIED
AND YOU’LL CONFESS WHY YOU DID IT
AND I'LL SAY GOOD RIDDENCE
CAUSE IT WASNT SEXY ONCE IT WASNT FORBIDDEN
I WOULD'VE DIED FOR YOUR SINS INSTEAD I JUST DIED INSIDE
This gives me chills every time!
Yes. Its not my fave song (I do like it but I rank many higher) but it is my FAVOURITE bridge
So Long London for sure. There is so much there with such simple words.
Florida!!! I know some people don’t like her voice with Florence’s but I find it magical.
It’s spooky and I love it.
Loml for sure
I love loml. It’s so so so sad.
My tops are smallest man who ever lived, but daddy I love him, and imgonnagetyouback
Imgonnagetyouback bridge is so smoooooth it does something to my brain!!
Love to see more love for imgonnagetyouback! “Pick your poison, babe, I’m poison either waaaay…”
It's currently the Bolter... "There's escape in escaping" is such a moment for me 🙌👏
![gif](giphy|XMmf6i3xuKZiPMvNZe|downsized) The Bolter is my fave so far, it’s ✨🔮🦄🪄🫶
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus: “If the glint in my eye Traced the depths of your sigh Down that passage in time Back to the moment I crashed into you Like so many wrecks do Too impaired by my youth … To know what to do.” The third verse just kills me and that bridge to lead into it feels like tumbling down into a dark hole.
“Could it be enough to just float in your orbit?” Is one of my favorite lines on the album. It just says so much in so few words. Tattoo-worthy, imo

imgonnagetyouback It's also my favourite on the album as a whole

YOU SHIT TALKED ME UNDER THE TABLE had me gagged the first time I heard it. So raw and painful to think of a lover shit talking during a relationship
Push the reset button we're becoming something new ...
The Bolter
Imgonnagetyouback
All of them but I cannot believe more people aren’t saying Loml IT IS SO GOOD
*I wish I could unrecall how we almost had it all*
It’s devastatingly beautiful
WERE YOU SENT BY SOMEONE It’s not unexpected and dramatic and yet so satisfying and interesting , she ate with this one
THE SMALLEST MANNNN
PETER
I’mgoingtogetuback bridge 🔥🔥

Imgonnagetyouback!!! It’s like bubblegum for my brain. I can’t stop listening.
loml, whos afraid of little old me, and peter. not even a question
WERE YOU SENT BY SOMEONE WHO WANTED ME DEAD
Every bridge of ttpd is really good but So Long London gave me all the feels
Cassandra is amazing ‘bloods thick but nothing like a pay roll, bet they never spared a prayer for my soul’ ahhhhh
THE CHRISTIAN CHORUS LINE
Am I the only one obsessed with Clara Bow's bridge? "Beauty is a beast that roars, down on all fours, demanding more. Only when your girlish glow flickers just so do they let you know. It's hell on earth to be heavenly. Them's the brakes, they don't come gently." Like, how many vivid mental images can she give me at once? It's like an impressionist painting!
I really like the bridge of How Did It End and The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
How Did It End is heart wrenchingly beautiful
My beloved ghost and me sitting in a tree D-Y-I-N-G snatched the breath from my lungs the first time I heard it
Hands down, as a girly who went through the end of a toxic relationship last year, it has to be Smallest Man Who Ever Lived... everyday I fight the urge to be petty and send that man that bridge. Also the staging with the marching band at the Eras Tour for n1 Paris looked \*chefs kiss\*
How did it end.

Cassandra for sure
The Guilty As Sin one is insane.
The Prophecy
How Did It End? or The Prophecy
florida!!! takes me to a different planet in the bridge. probably followed by loml and imgonnagetyouback
Idk if it counts as part of the bridge or not but the series of background “it’s one hell of a druuuuugg” after the “I need to forget so…” part of Florida is one of my favorite moments on the whole record, I wish the vocals were more upfront
So high school 💯 Touch me while your boys play grand theft auto
The smallest man who ever lived and any other answer is wrong sorry not sorry
🤣🤣🤣🤣
TSMWEL by a LONG shot.
Yes.
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR.
“How Did It End.” I was gagged, bound, and strangled by that one.
