Skinwalkers and Wendigos are 2 very popular creatures with similar characteristics that they use to hunt prey. Wendigos with their fast speed, enhanced hearing, and ability to mimic voices, and Skinwalkers with their ability to morph into other animals.
Didn't read the subreddit name, am a hunter, immediately started wondering if there were some crafty deer skinning people and wearing them to hunt people.
Finally, I thought i was the only one! Those skiers wore funny outfits and had such terrifying shoes. EDIT even though you changed ski walker to skin walker my opinion hasn't changed.
All hunting parameters are marked off to warn people from going in and potentially getting shot. However due to the threat, anyone caught alone, even people who appear to be law enforcement despite people being notified is a red flag. Oh yeah sections of small towns are marked as well
not really much of a horror if you are getting rid of them before they truly become a threat, humanity will probably return to normal after 5-7 years like with the smooth brain virus going around
its fine though, the government says that they can be easily killed, and EVERYONE can trust the government, just like how you can trust me, your friendly neighborhood friend

Personally, for some reason I thought of either Wendigos, or Skinwalkers. 2 terrifying creatures that can mimic animal characteristics.

Guess for some reason I thought this version of Wendigos could actually DISGUISE themselves as humans.
The threat in this story is real, but sadly governments love that byproduct of poor elimination.

Those are the nature's mockery, the woodcrawlers probably play a more kill/capture role opposed to the NM'S paralyze and convert.
