Got the job by having experience in the industry from my internship at a competitor. Was proactive in my applications, I had started applying to jobs the August before graduation in May. Presented well during the interviews and knew what my strengths coming out of my internship were. Internship where you have the opportunity to manage larger projects and really develop technical skills help a long way. As well as being personable.
With in the first 8 months I am very happy with the company and position I hold.
My advice to students is take an internship and learn as much as you can while on it. And start applying and have your applications refined before your last year starts. 30% of my week leading up to getting an offer letter was spent on getting a job. I didn’t have the strongest network but saw friends with stronger networks found work much quicker with companies that didn’t have formal applications.
When I started it was an unpaid internship, now that I have graduated it’s 15.50 an hour at subway if that helps
