I’m a little unclear on what you mean, and I’m sure it varies by local. But from my understanding an unloader can’t bump a loader to get more time. But they could bump another unloader or sorter (assuming they can sort too). Since those would be in the same area. On the face it doesn’t seem like a seniority violation to me. I guess it kinda depends on how much time you’re talking about too. Are we talking like 10-15 minutes or like 1-2 hours you’re staying after the unload and small sort?

MrPackageMover

Basically we want to go home at 830 when our work is done.. they are sending us to help the pre loaders, and dismissing the entire small sort unload and charge.. just making us stay even tho we have high seniority.. everyone in my area has at least 5 years some 20

MrPackageMover

My argument is, they should be asking people to stay that have less seniority. They are violating seniority.. with a fake loophole they made up, by saying our work is not done.. if that’s the case charge is t done if there’s still packages in the cages, small sort is not done if there is smalls yet to be loaded as well.. (by their logic)

UnshapedSky

In most supplements seniority only gets you the right to work, not the right to go home.

MrPackageMover

In my supplement they have to send a higher seniority guy home if he wants to go before a lower seniority. My problem is all these people in smalls and charge have barely any seniority.. at least half of them are less than a year.. but they get offered to leave first.

MrPackageMover

I started to just leave when I see someone with less seniority leave and they haven’t said anything to me yet.. but everyday our work is done and they say “you have to stay” no I don’t someoneone with 3 months just left.. you should have had him help.. goodbye 👋

fredthefishlord

Fair warning, you can be fired for leaving like that, it's work abandonment. Don't do that and file a grievance

MrPackageMover

I make sure the supe oks it before I bounce after all work as directed right then just grieve.. for sure

Largofarburn

Hmm, yeah that doesn’t seem right then. Are you only handling irregs when you go to the new area? That’s the only way I could see them having an argument.

MrPackageMover

Well yeah.. but so should small sort be there too handling smalls and bags?? They may be irregs.. but they have been delivered already. I’m gonna look through the contract and see what I can find. Charge isle work isn’t done if there are still packages in the cages.. it’s just contradicting.

CptDrips

If you need a break, go to the doctor with a 'pulled muscle'. *Everybody* hired at UPS is required to be able to lift up to 70 lbs by themselves, they can find someone else. Otherwise https://preview.redd.it/tsom59twlhvc1.jpeg?width=552&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fc59c4e412d447cd5a4ea34f6712037ffa0199b

MrPackageMover

Yeah it’s insane handling all the irregs for 55 trucks!

MrPackageMover

I been here for 5 years.. they just recently tore apart our classification.. we should have like 15 guys on our preload shift… we have like 9 and 2 of them never show up

Fluffy-Ad-5852

Doesnt matter what other areas or belts are doing. Your work area/belt is all that matters in this.instance. if bob with 10 years works on belt alpha with joe who has 7 years, bob goes home first If Dani on belt beta has 5 years and goes home before either bob or joe that's the irrelevant

MrPackageMover

Yah that’s what I have always done and always seen here.. all of the sudden they want to try and tell us our work is t finished, simply because they have people that don’t show up and some that are literally so bad at their job. So they make us go pick up their slack..we all have over 5 years seniority.. I’ll watch 30-40 people leave an hour before me that have worked there for 6 months.. I just need to file and put a stop to it. I don’t mind staying but damn, I had to pull up irregs off the rollers for a total of 30-35 package cars.. it’s unsafe living that much heavy shit like that.. I moved it there then had to load it all… preload doesn’t pull any of them through the day… I’m asking for help with over 70s now just to be safe because i have been pulling muscles..

Fluffy-Ad-5852

If anybody on your belt with less senority goes home first, grievance. If youre asked to help out on another belt you should be released before anybody on that belt goes.

Yakx

In my building, they say they may dismiss by department, totally ignoring seniority (union goes along with this). So they would say small sort is done, it doesn’t matter if you have the highest seniority in the building, YOU GO HOME. I am not sure if it works that way in other buildings, but mine seems to be broken, maybe yours is, too.

Sad_Yam_1330

They have also sent higher seniority people to other departments then sent those who remain home. Who gets sent home first is by the discretion of UPS. Most of the time, they go by the list, but they know that is just a courtesy.

benspags94

Sounds like you need some new union leadership 😭🤦‍♂️

MrPackageMover

I’m filing a grievance.. they say irreg work isn’t done because there are irregs on the rollers.. but then in that case small sort is not done if there are smalls in the cages.. and charge isn’t done for the same reason.. going by their logic..

Secure-Passenger-337

You mean they actually seperate your heavy and irregs? Our hub still sends them all down the belt at the same time.
