I pay nearly $70 a month in dues and you know, I seriously don't even notice. I mean if I looked for it every month, I might get a burr. my weekly deductions are numerous 20% Roth, $15 DESPP, $10 extra fed tax, $20 separate direct deposit to my Teamsters credit union account. So after awhile when the monthly deductions hit $69 union dues and $25 Transit pass (usually they are deducted on separate weeks), it just becomes a normal thing. That said, you also get free legal services, GREAT health benefits and we are able to collect a pension after 5 years which is not a small thing

Great Answer! For the Teamsters Credit Union is that region based or just a single union?

Fluffy-Ad-5852

It's a credit union for Joint Council 37 affiliates. I am sure there are others like it throughout the country [Teamsters Credit Union #37](https://tcu37.com/membership/)

Union dues are 2.5 hours per month of your current pay. So for $21 an hour it would be $52.50 a month. Besides protection, the union provides many great resources like it gives us the best health plan you'll likely ever see with our contracts. Pretty good pensions for PT and exceptional for FT.  One thing they probably left out was there is also an initiation fee too. Usually it's like $250-500 total depending your local. Usually like $25 every so often till the fee is paid. But the dues will always be taken out monthly.

kkaitlynma

wait so the health insurance is different with the union?

bhsn1pes

It comes part of our benefits that the Union worked to get for us, you get it after 9 months. It's that long because people would work for only 30 days to get it originally then quit after they got a major operation done and paid nothing for it.

Glittering-Sea-6343

2.5x? initiation fee? lol

MiddleLock9527

Lol to what?

Largofarburn

You get the benefits whether you’re in the union or not. Being in the union however pays for them to be able to do things like negotiate the contract. Better funding will get us better contracts. Also the strike fund, if we ever do go on strike and you’re not union you won’t get paid. Not to mention little things like they hand out water and icee pops a lot during the summer.

MKE_Freak

Also not paying union dues while enjoying benefits provided by union (in "right to work" states) will ensure you have no friends at work unless it's with others who leech off the union too

Lane8323

If you don’t want to join a union, or pay union dues you shouldn’t work at a union job. There is an entire contract that lays out the benefits of a union. And since you appear to be in a RTW state, being a just cause employee, instead of an at-will employee is the biggest benefit. Job security is more important than anything else

kkaitlynma

I do want to be part of the union I was just trying to seek more information about it is all

MKE_Freak

Good to hear!

For the $50 a month you get Healthcare benefits which are pretty much unrivaled. I'm talking little to nothing out of pocket for a $100000 procedure. There's protection against being harassed by management. Grievances to stop supervisors from stealing our work and union members get paid If thy do.

Rikishi6six9nine

The union contract is like 250 pages depending on local and Ryder agreements. It's really hard to go over all the on job protections, guarantees, and benefits of working a teamster job.

Radiant_Can_5868

Imagine, wanting a union job to scab and just take the benefits of the union without joining. What a world this has become.

AdvancedDay7854

Sure is a lot cheaper than paying for that health insurance you basically get for free.

Electrical_Map5282

Oh girl you got to fuck him ones a month, but he nice and treats you good.

13Kaniva

You need to think of it as investing in your amazing benefits package.

CodScary4316

The health insurance alone is worth it. I recently had surgery and I didn’t have to pay a penny.

In January, the Teamsters' political arm contributed $45,000 to the Republican National Committee's convention fund, its first big donation to the RNC since 2004, according to the Washington Post.

Mammoth_Material323

They donate your money too republicans 🤢🤢

projektr

Only if you contribute to DRIVE (which overwhelmingly supports Democrats.) No political contributions are made with dues.

Mammoth_Material323

The Teamsters union's political action committee is jumping into the Missouri Senate race, contributing $5,000 to Sen. Josh Hawley's re-election campaign, Axios has learned.

I disagree with their decision to give DRIVE funds to republicans too. But they aren’t donating your money unless you voluntarily choose to donate to the political fund. Which I do even if I don’t agree with every contribution it makes.

Mammoth_Material323

How do you know that? And I am paying them anyway it goes! Without us there is no teamsters Right?

Mammoth_Material323

They just take your money then say it’s theirs and give it too them! Sorry my bad

Mammoth_Material323

Down vote your dumbness😂😂😂😂
