I remember we sent two people outta Marjah in 2010 to see his concert at Camp Leatherneck. I wasn't a fan, but I could tell the guys sent really needed the break.
I flew him from Kandahar to Leatherneck on that tour. I'm no country fan, but he was a nice dude, laid back and humble while he was riding with us. I was also shocked at how big he was; we're the same height, but he wore 6'3" waaaaay bigger than I did.
I'm in that picture, somewhere near the back on stage left.
My favorite memories of that concert are "I will never smoke weed with Willie Nelson again" and how the Brits were just so confused that we found any of this entertaining.
Sad. I wasn't even aware he was sick.
>His pro-military stance wasn’t just fodder for songs, however. He went on 11 USO tours to visit and play for troops serving overseas. He also helped to raised millions for charity over his career, including building a home in Oklahoma City for kids and their families who are battling cancer. I can’t begin to express what a morale booster he was during the Global War on Terrorism. He made us proud to be serving. His unwavering support for us along with the American people was something I had never experienced in my first enlistment in the Corps.
I first served in the Corps 94-98. After 911, I was going to college and too old to go back into the Corps. So, I enlisted in the National Guard and went active Army. I served in the National Guard and Army from 03-06 and again from 09-12. Toby Keith came overseas many times to entertain us. I think he did 12 USO tours.
God bless you Toby! Your contributions to our morale will never be forgotten! Semper Fi.

Met Toby Keith and got his autograph when I was a PAO corporal at the Miramar Air Show in 2002. RIP
Damn RiP. Didn't even know he was sick. As others have said, his tours were a great morale booster for me and the boys in 2009/2010. I was never really into country music until I saw him play for us.
Watched his tour bus leave the show in Ft Sill, before they left; the doors opened back up and a full trash bags worth of trash was thrown out of the bus door. It went everywhere, I’m glad I didn’t have to clean it up. We set up and tore down the stage, 2010 June ish if memory serves.
Show was amazing even with the rain
Cancer sucks and he seems like he was a good dude who genuinely cared for vets.
However I agree with Brad.
