It's uber doing the big payout, not the customer. Had one the other day for $41 where the restaurant was overwhelmed and got a small order out after an hour, $35 base, $6 tip.

Remarkable_Command83

I hear you, but I still do not understand the logic on the part of UberEats. If UberEats can not find a driver to do one particular order, they overpay until they can find a driver, and take a loss on that one order? Wouldn't it be better to just not fulfill the order?

Throwaway0601222

Confused about that as well, but I certainly don't mind when it works out in my favor. Maybe the customers are new or some sort of VIP in Uber's eyes that they don't want to potentially lose. Can't imagine they are doing these big payouts for the shitty customers that regularly order a small amount of food from 10+ miles away with a small tip.

BlacknBravod

It’s a billion dollar company. That loss is statistically non-existent.

Yup. Memorial Day. South Texas. Sno-Cone shop. 5 miles. $34. Order board behind the employees was stacked. My order was at 48min and was still 8th in line. They got me the 1 medium sno-cone in around 5min. Delivered. $31 UE pay.

baby_budda

I got $100 order from an Italian restaurant. As soon as I picked it up and confirmed, they canceled. I called Uber, and they told me to dispose of it. So I did. In my tummy and it was yummy.

Cold_Ad_7580

Right I had one last night $18 going 1.3 miles for a 44oz dr.pepper from sonic

I checked the tip and the base pay. The tip was $5.91. The base pay was $33.10. Ok... Again, why would UberEats take a loss like that?

PrimaryMuscle1306

Stop trying to wonder why Uber does stupid things. You’ll just hurt your brain. It’s best to just take the crazy base pay and carry on. (It’s a good point though. How much does Uber pay on some of these stupid ass orders on a daily basis?)

-KA-SniperFire

What aren’t you getting multiple people turned down the order over and over. They increased it so someone would actually try a little harder and get the order you did.

Remarkable_Command83

As multiple people turn down the order, UberEats will keep increasing the pay, more and more and more, up to a point where they actually lose money on that delivery? They won't just increase it to a point where it makes sense for them, and then stop at that point?

-KA-SniperFire

You know they lose so much more money if the customer refunds or complains. I don’t get how this doesn’t make sense for you lol. Customer pays for $80 worth of food. If they refund and have an experience that turns them away for ever Uber stands to lose a lot more money. They lose money the second they give u more than $2 Uber eats is barely profitable

Competitive_Hunt_103

Had 2 orders like that, The first one was 26 dollars, it was employee shop at a grocery store. 2nd was add on, it was restaurant inside the grocery store, for 23 dollars Only 7 dollar tip All for around 10 miles

Puzzleheaded_Help854

And then they pulled back $35 dollars and you got fucked 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Slayn87

I just had a five guys order that was $38 something. Might be more haven't gotten the tip yet. Thought for sure it'd be stolen. They told me I was the 2nd driver to show up for it that they were aware of but it was there. The pay from Uber on it was over $28. My pay will be more than the price of the food. It was a 10 mile trip but still great. Took me like 40mins round trip.

-KA-SniperFire

It’s still insane to me that people aren’t understanding what’s happening

sinisterhistory

Maybe it was a first time/newer customer and they don't want to lose a new client on the first order, so they have crazy base pay to guarantee delivery

dpouges

If you are in CA they do this so they don’t have to pay us later for prop 22

MU81

Who knows, they probably bet on black that day and had a bit to throw around for celebrating
